You are either using a different Google maps Mod  than I am, or you are just making up negative stuff for some reason.... Hey if you don't like it, don't use it, but why try to rain on everyone elses parade?

I'm trying to rain nothing, I'm giving him the reason why I wouldn't like Microsoft to do it without editing. What you are saying is more adequate to you when talking about ATC addons, isn't it?

I saw a comparison and in some parts Google is better, in others Bing. Given the legal issues and that you also lose the touches they add by hand in "native" MSFS and third-party airports adapting to native, I stick to the stock choice.

I really don't like chasing a moving target which is what all of this is--Asobo's not quite done developing MSFS.  My sense this is not a no-brainer as even some of its most staunch enthusiasts point out.  I also see default improving here and there like this morning's fabulous flight KSFO>KRNO in which nothing was lacking from gate to gate, except fortunately lacking are the green-tinted roadways seen in other scenarios on occasion or per region:

go from default Bing, to New Bing ( which is much better), to Google, which is better yet,.

That reeeeeeeeally depends on area. From what I’ve seen, most of North America is much better in Google, parts are better in New Bing, Europe is a mixed bag, Google is awful in much of Africa and Asia, New Bing has great resolution there but clouds dotted around, and default is most consistent.

It would be useful if some bright spark could upload a map where mod users could vote on which version looks best in different countries, but I guess it’s not the top priority for most.

The Google Map Mod hurts noone and helps Google and MSFS at the same time.  The question here is data and it's real life representation.  If Google tiles are better then they win.  If Bing tiles are better then they win.  If ARCGIS tiles are better then... well you get it.

All tile providers want their tiles represented in anyway possible.

So, forget the legality aspect because it's all about marketing.

It's obviously illegal, but each to their own.

Someone asked about it during an official stream, and the Microsoft stance was essentially no support if it breaks your sim. Which is probably their stance on all addons that aren't official.

They didn't say not to use it.

then why can't MSFS do the same with Bing?

Because they have to process and optimize it. Like for example they use an algorithm to remove clouds from imagery.

Sorry to awake up this, just made a flight to Malta, and i had that horrible loading tiles on landing using the default terrain...this mod solved that using google or even arcgis servers, both free edition.

But then i loaded a flight in my country(Portugal) and i had a horrible mixed terrain colors with the mod, so i guess is in fact a mixed bag.

MSFS is evolving and faster than any other sim and there is a lot of interacting with the developer.

Another sim has just released an update after 1.5 years …

I've never been able to get this to work.  Here is a link to the error message I'm getting.  Any suggestions?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6chii9j3v5k6ntt/map_enhancement_error.png?dl=0

Any chance you have the combination of all the following in options?

1) In Start Options, "Start MSFS on Mod Start"

2) Game Store set to MS Store

3) You own the Steam version of the game

Explanation: the mod is trying to start MSFS by executing the MS Store version, which is the path that you see in the error shell:appsFolder\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App, and Windows says that this file doesn't exist

The easiest solution is to just disable "Start MSFS on Mod Start" and then just let it run. Otherwise, check that your game store setting match with what you have installed

Thank you. I do indeed have the Steam Version.  I will uncheck the start option.

No need to uncheck the option.  I use the steam version without a problem, You just need to select 'Steam' under the 'Game Store' option instead of 'MS Store'.
