June 27, 20232 yr I love playing FS2020 it’s a fun flying game that I like as A) like gaming and B) love aviation. To me it’s the game that comes the closest to recreating flying plus its breadth and depth are huge so you can do VFR IFR or just mess about. All on my sofa!
June 27, 20232 yr I belong in the older generation that was not brought up on video games or how good the current graphics have been over recent times. I fly it and enjoy it because I can and marvel at what I can do in my own home and find it a wondaful (and expensive lol ) hobby Long may it continue..
June 27, 20232 yr - Makes Sim Flying Stupendous - Most Simmers Fly Solo 🤷♂️ I know that I really like how MS and Asobo dragged flight simming into this decade with the tech used and visuals employed. And I know that, despite some noticeable issues, I thoroughly enjoy MSFS. June 27, 20232 yr I've enjoyed the world of aviation since my childhood on RAF bases. I still read Ernest K. Gann, Charles Kingsford Smith, and Jean Batten along with the pioneering airlines such as KLM, Imperial Airways, Pan Am and Qantas. When I fly today, I am as much interested in the aircraft I'm sitting in as the place I am going to. In September, I shall be setting off round the world in real life and, as an example, MSFS has gone a long way to teach me what those two up in the cockpit will be doing. Given all that, MSFS is more than just a game - it fleshes out my interest in aircraft, and I find it very absorbing. Plus, there is that gorgeous scenery. We've never had a simulated world like it - breathtaking at times. Roll on MSFS 2024. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
June 27, 20232 yr Author I forgot to add that MSFS helps me keep my mind active as I hit old age and I luv watching geology while in a cruise. ☺️ sp Edited June 27, 20232 yr by Sky_Pilot071

June 27, 20232 yr As a quadriplegic it gives me the ultimate freedom to imagine stuff I never could do now in real life. I've worked in the industry and seen things the layman won't get to see, including airliner cockpits in flight and multi-million dollar full flight sims, but the desktop sim, given it's something I own, gives me a specific freedom, and, with good addons, isn't that far away from the FFS.
June 27, 20232 yr I've been an aircraft and aviation nut since I was a kid, and the kind who used to go outside airports and sit there watching take-offs and landings forever lol, and soaked in every minute of flying as a passenger IRL when on trips from checking in at the airport to landing... thus I also pounced on Sublogic Flight Simulator II in my early teens as that's when I got my first computer (Commodore 64), and my long history with flight simulators started from there. What MSFS means to me is that it's the closest thing to what I've always dreamed about being able to do in a sim/game from those early days through to just before 2020 when it came on to the scene. Well actually, I couldn't even imagine then some of what's possible in MSFS now. It completely upped the ante when it entered the flight sim scene in 2020, and continues to give me that wholistic simulation experience for *all* aspects of flight simulation without having to be an either/or, or compromise one area for another (flight & systems realism, world representation, weather, visual fidelity, etc). And unlike the early days of MSFS 2020, I can even get all/most of that without any add-ons as the sim is currently in 2023, but of course all the 3rd party add-ons just ups the ante even more and adds to the experience in spades. It is also the closest thing to recreating the whole earth in my computer, and definitely seems to be forging ahead in that regard too with v2024... the ultimate "open world" game if you will 🙂 Finally, MSFS means a vibrant thriving community to be a part of 🙂 ... as evidenced by the avsim MSFS forum here of course, and the ecosystem in general with so many 3rd party devs participating and developing for it. June 27, 20232 yr For me its just a game among dozens of others. Its not meant in a negative way. I mean i am grown up now, working in aviation i have all kind of planes around me every day. If i want it as real as it gets it hop onto one of the local flying clubs planes and go flying. I dont use MSFS for hardcore simming. Maybe go and try out some procedure turns and stuff. Or go a bit of sightseeing. But the times as a kid when i used to "play" pilot, join a virtual airline and all that "pretend to be" stuff are over. Some thing really do change. June 27, 20232 yr I quit flying in real life years ago,due to finances, and health issues. MSFS feels just like flying in real life, for me.
June 27, 20232 yr Winter fun, dark gloomy nights need something to fill the time. Either that or move to California permanently.
