(I had more CTDs in 3 days than the total I’d had in over 3 years when this particular issue started occurring. Thankfully the workaround is proving solid).

Ok, then, to be honest, you might just have cured the symptoms but not the cause by fiddling with your network settings. If the issue is only present since 3 weeks, a connection to MSFS is rather unlikely, it might be that MSFS somehow is the trigger, but unlikely the cause. Doesn't help you for this particular issue now, I am aware...

Where have I ever claimed anything other than this? Hence me calling my ‘cure’ a workaround. Workaround: something that fixes an issue temporarily. Once asobo fix the issue the workaround is no longer needed and I’ll stop using it.

You could do with reading the (rather long) thread on the official forum. You’ll see I’ve based my workaround on facts and feedback from multiple posters who were having the exact same issue and not just a throw away opinion with no basis. Many posters on that thread are successfully using my workaround and have done for weeks.

edit: I’m actually agreeing with you just to be clear. I personally don’t think the issue is in the MSFS code but to do with the server connection or configuration at the Azure terrain server.

I to have been plagued with ctd for a few weeks, previously I had maybe one in a blue moon. I am on 1 GB connection so tried the 100mb half duplex workaround and although early days I managed a one hour plus flight without issues (first in a long time). Rtx 4090, pimax crystal, i7 13700k.

I haven't changed my network settings at all and had over two hours of uninterrupted flying this afternoon. Yesterday I could barely take off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's not a hardware issue, a driver issue or a network setting on my PC. There are users on the official forum who have changed their network settings and have still had the same CTD's so I think we just have to wait for Asobo folks.

I have voted, several days ago 🙂

I just now had another flight CTD, right at the beginning. Nothing extra running or installed. Default everything. Same CTD...always the same.

More and more I am thinking that since this CTD started for me with SU13, and it seems to be affecting others but also lots of other simmers are NOT affected, that I am wondering if the download issues many of us had when that update came out maybe caused some data corruption for me. If you all recall, there was a lot of download traffic when that update was released, and many of us were having download timeout issues and it said it would finish but then it wasn't. I mean, at this point I am running out of potential causes, and that seems to be all that's left. So, it's looking like a reinstall might be on my menu tonight or tomorrow.

Hi Landon, my PC is older but I'm having constant, random CTD's.  I'm waiting on SU14 but hope Asobo knows about this.  I have to wonder what they did in SU13 as I seldom if ever had a CTD on SU12.

So, an update on my CTD struggles...been a few days since I last posted on this subject. A bit of information to follow, so please bear with me 🙂

I went ahead and swapped out my hardware as I stated earlier in this thread, and even then, completely different PC platform with a fresh, vanilla install of MSFS with SU13 I was getting the exact same CTD's with the same error code in Event Viewer. So, I reinstalled my 7800X3D platform hardware and went back to the troubleshooting board.

Next step was do a deep dive on the official MSFS forum in the CTD thread that covers my same error code in Event Viewer. Looking at that thread, there are a ton of MSFS users suffering from this same issue, mostly since SU13 was released. I will say that in that same thread, in the earlier parts of it, there are many comments from users that started having similar if not the same CTD issues with SU12 release. But, it seems more started having it after SU13. After spending hours digging through that ever growing thread, some of the key takeaways I noticed:

1) Many of the CTD's referred to in that thread are a little different than mine, ie they were CTD's caused by the inflight VFR map, or the MSFS flight planner zoom crash, or they were various random CTD's due to something in their Community folder.

2) There are some people in that thread that have tried the lowering their data speed on their high speed network cards, but by no means is it an overwhelming suggestion or proven fix. It does seem to work in some cases, for some users based on comments in that thread, but not enough for that to be a definitive answer to the general CTD problem, and definitely not for my specific CTD problem.

3) Spread throughout the long thread, there are a few references to Offline AI Aircraft Traffic causing infight CTD's, which are the kind I have been having, even in a vanilla setup with an empty Community folder. The first mention I saw of it was a user who was having the same type of CTD I have been having but since SU12. He turned OFF his Offline AI Aircraft Traffic, and he never had another CTD. For whatever reason though, not many people saw or commented on his solution. Further down the thread, a few more people with the same CTD in SU13 tried that same solution with successful results.

4) Now, on my system, prior to this CTD problem I have been having, I was using FSLTL and FS Traffic. Both worked fine, but as you all know, not much GA traffic with those. So, in an attempt to at least get the MSFS default GA traffic mixed in, I turned on the Offline AI Traffic around the time SU13 came out. I cannot say definitively that I had it turned on before or after SU13 was released, but it was around that time because I was transitioning then from flying airliners to more GA and helo flying, so hence why I wanted more GA ai traffic. So, after spending all that time digging into that MSFS forum thread, I gave that solution a shot.

So, I started with a vanilla MSFS install and just the USA WU. I flew three full IFR flights in the default TBM 950 to and from default airports, with NO AI traffic of any sort. After three flights, not a single problem. In every past attempt at troubleshooting this CTD problem of mine, I could never reach more than two successful flights without a CTD. So, three successful flights is a great start. Of course, this solution is not definitive with only three successful flights, but I wanted to update you all and I will keep testing. I plan to add FSLTL for my next few flights and see what happens, leaving Offline AI Aircraft Traffic turned off.

Lastly, if this is indeed the reason for my CTD's, then it is a bug in MSFS. Based on the information in that thread, it will have been around since at least SU12. It also explains why so many people are NOT having this CTD problem, if they are not using Offline AI Traffic. Even so, maybe it only affects certain setups, although for me, I showed that I get the same CTD on two completely different systems. So, more testing and I will update with my results. More to follow 🙂

If you are gonna use AI traffic atleast used this mod for it....cleans and fixes things up considerably for GA.

Um, appreciate the suggestion, but as I am trying to troubleshoot and resolve a CTD problem that has been plaguing me since SU13 I hardly think introducing additional freeware mods is the best answer. I have of course heard of those mods, and maybe I will give them a try, WAY after I have confirmed I have solved my CTD problem first, which of course is the prudent course of action 😉

I for one appreciate your time and effort spent on your testing! I don't use Offline AI Traffic at all, so I'm not sure what they might be a symptom of.

Out of curiosity, since I have heard of a handful of people having success with this (myself included): When you tried the NIC solution, did you try it at 100Mbps full duplex or half duplex? I have found that - for me - the full duplex option is better but not 100%. I have found the half duplex solution to provide a 100% solution to my CTDs.

Interesting, you may be on to something here. I don't use offline traffic (only online FSLTL) and don't have any CTD's.

Thank you for the nice comments. As for the NIC solution, I have yet to try that. I don't want to have to lower my data speed just because MSFS is not working properly. That said, if my current potential solution does not pan out, I may try the NIC option just to rule it out or see if it is a work around. But, not yet.

In spite of some of the other issues plaguing the SU14 beta, the latest release is still proving to be a noticeable improvement for me with regards to my CTDs. I'm still running my internet at full speed and am only seeing an occasional crash now. FWIW, I've not been using any AI traffic, 3rd party or default.

Just an update from me, since lowering my 1GB Fibre speed to 100mb half duplex I gave had zero CTDs. This has now been 3 days and approx 7 hrs of sim time on a mix of 737 and GA a/c. Previously I was suffering CTD every other flight. Not conclusive but keeps me "in the air". I have FSTL in my community folder as well.

I haven't read this thread, but I want to put my name in the bucket if it helps:

I play MSFS an average of once a month or two, due to work. Loaded it up today to get some practice approaches in at KFRG and when I selected the ramp from the main menu map, the game closed to desktop without any warning.

I haven't had CTD's since the GPU crashes due to new Nvidia drivers a year or so ago, so this is all certainly new from my perspective.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Hi, can you explain specifically how I can go about doing this?

I took Landon’s advice last night and shut off the AI Traffic which I didn’t even know it was on.  Went to PANC and no CTD as it spawned there and flew to Homer as a test in the A2A and it was fine.  But I had no traffic because I already disabled FS Traffic.

Thanks for any pointers.
