Censorship in official MSFS forums

Featured Replies

I think it's still a good forum for information and much better organised for that than this place but it is not a place for discussion. I probably go there every day for quick updates on things I'm interested in but I wouldn't dream of trying to argue anything there. If you accept that it's just not that sort of forum then it still has a place.

Another fault with the official MS forum moderators, they don't know much about MSFS! The moderators here do.

Example: It is not allowed to talk about LSFG on their forum because "it changes msfs data". No, it does not. There are FG applications that do, they remove files from MS folders and add replacements. But LSFG does not change a single bit in the MSFS file structure.

The official forum moderators don't know this. They are civility police, but they are not very knowledgeable about MSFS. They don't understand the sim. Neither does their "community" team, from top to bottom. They do use the sim themselves, but they don't understand hardware or software issues much at all.

There are lots of flightsim knowledgeable people at Microsoft. Their community team people are not among them. They are just public relations specialists.

I never understood why AutoFPS can't be discussed over there.  "Because it alters licensed data."  Huh?  I certainly don't see it that way.  It changes temporary storage used by MSFS but it certainly doesn't alter licensed data.  I believe Asobo could benefit greatly by hiring Reset XPDR or at least licensing/buying his code.

AutoFPS functions by memory injection. You won’t find any software developer actively advocating for using this path for interfacing with their product because memory injection can easily be used in a nefarious manner and if it’s closed source there’s no way to verify what it’s doing.

FS24 already includes dynamic LOD similar to what AutoFPS does, so hopefully that can be backtracked to FS20.

though I hope you understand why it can be discussed on the forums, it’s actively against T&Cs which you can find for most software products

Thank you for the explanation.

Nefarious?  It's a game.  I guess I don't understand what harm can be done?  Cheating in multiplayer perhaps?

My guess is it comes down to support.  Remember, someone has to sit there and deal with support tickets that come in.  Just imagine how many tickets they get from people who don't know what they are doing?  They find some random Youtube video and make tons and tons of tweaks.  Think of that from the other end.  It is a support nightmare.

I'm just guessing, but if I was in charge of support tickets, I'd want people running their sim as vanilla as possible.

MSFS forum has a vested interest in hiding any posts that put the sim in any negative light whatsoever. Skip to the end of my rant for proof.

So the other day I made a post about how the MSFS 2024 release was rocky. Hidden. Then made another reply about how the engine is no different than 2020. Hidden.

I then flagged one of the moderator posts where they told people to remain civil. In the flag I said that people are civil and that saying they are unhappy with 2024 isn’t “uncivil behavior” it’s exactly what forums were designed for. Civil discourse.

I was banned for flagging the mods post lol. In the PM the mod said “Flagging a mods post will not result in any action taken and will be ignored, also note you have been suspended for 7 days for violating the code of conduct. The mod who sent me this message was a different person than the one I flagged.

The mod who sent me this message was Hester40MT. I googled their name and they were asking how to fix hidden messages on the forum  from being shown in search results.

you put a lot of effort in making a point... going out to another website (Avsim), registering there and than complaining about a specific mod from another forum. you could also enjoy MSF2020 instead of these endeavours...

MSFS forum has a vested interest

Hello and welcome to the Avsim forums.

Standby for a shock; the official forums do have a vested interest in promoting MSFS. That’s exactly what they’re set up for. They’re not some sort of democracy where you can post whatever you want.

Your opinions will be subject to moderation and you could indeed be banned from posting there if one of there moderation team feels you have transgressed their terms of use.
When you signed up to those forums you agreed to this.

Stand by for another surprise; when you signed up to these boards you agreed to something very similar. This is a moderated forum with rules too.

Personally, I really wouldn’t worry about it.

A quick perusal of the official forums this morning shows the Microsoft/Asobo team still being roasted for the release of 2024 with calls for resignations, refunds, accusations of mass incompetence, etc. etc.

Most of these are now several days old and several pages long. You will have to draw your own conclusions from this but as for complaining about forum moderation generally; I liken it to the captain of a ship complaining of rough weather…..freakin’ pointless.🤣

This guy has severe psychological issues, narcissistic power-abuse. He spend a good time flagging literally EVERY single one of my postings (even from the year 2021) for no reasons whatsoever. I only discussed technical and engineering stuff on these forums, mostly about airplanes and systems and nothing about simulator-issues because... well ... I never had any technical issues or any problems with Flight Simulator 2020 whatsoever. 😄 There was no critics the opposite was the case I mostly hyped the simulator and especially the Fenix Airbus, and never had any problems.

It begun suddenly and out of the blue for no reason in 2022 or 2023 not sure which year it was, with almost getting a mail daily "I have broken this rule and I have broken that code of conduct, and this posting from February 2021 broke that forum rule, and that posting from November 2020 broke that rule, and that posting on page 34435 of 546435675672 from January 2022 was suddenly flagged because of this or that" blah blah blah blah blah (but without actually breaking any rules, I discussed mostly technical and physics stuff over there.) And it was always this Hester-guy behind that, and in the personal messages.

Some day I wrote my "friend" a personal message what kind of personal vendetta he has with me in that forum, and I wanted to know exactly what was wrong with a certain posting that obviously broke not one single code of conduct. Only some stupid angry short answer came back "I am now banned for 7 days for transgressing some conducts"... and since that day I am blocked permanently in this forum for years now, and that ban was never removed. Better avoid this power-monger at all costs, NEVER talk to him directly 100% ignore him, never answer on any PN, NEVER answer on any of his postings, 100% ghost him. Because as soon as he ever notices you in that forum - you will be hunted down in a witch-hunt that NEVER stops until a reason is found to get you deleted there. Maybe he even finds a posting from the Flight Simulator 2004 A Century of Flight era that broke some "code of conduct" as excuse to ban you.... 😄

There used to be a moderator like that on Avsim. I never donated a dime until he left.

Japp, this Hester-Moron was also the cause I got banned over there. Which is per se a juridistical questionable thing to do with a paying customer. Different story...

No surprise there, one person's side splittingly amusing joke is another person's
rude and sarcastic remark.
The best thing to do with humour on internet forums, is to avoid it at all costs.

Found this thread with google and just had to sign up to give it a bump.

In a thread talking about how the devs are probably going to go on holiday vacation without another update, and saying it's an incredibly bad look to release a broken product then go on vacation gets you threatened with suspension.

It really is wild to see it, and I'm glad it's not just me. I thought I was hallucinating or something about what I'd posted.
