What comes next after PMDG's 777? Max or 747?

Agreed and you may want to add KMIA to that list. Never thought i would be doing cargo ops but i spent a good portion of the weekend doing just that in the A300.. ( another "dead" aircraft) and now i'm feeling the itch for the rest of the cargo regulars (777F / 747) so bring them on!

I have been flying the Cargo version of the 737-800 with Fedex, on A PIlots Life.  Some nice an varied routes.

… about 6 or 7 years of waffle from RSR presumably 🫢

Would you prefer that or the FSL approach of say nothing, no questions taken and if you ask too many questions your post gets shutdown by their resident thread locker?

...Whatever comes next, we have no control over, I'll just take a look at the next offering as it comes be it PMDG or iFly, all the while sitting back and taking in these Debates.

Well I meant it as a joke but … it makes no real difference does it? Neither of them, sadly, is productive in MSFS on any useful timescale. One of them tries to mask it with waffle. The other doesn’t.

PMDG have released four 737 variants and a bunch of updates, are about to release several 777 variants (too lazy to count) with new features and two MAX variants in between. I'd call that pretty productive. They certainly don't need to mask anything here.

FSL have released - nothing. Not sure I follow your logic.

Four triple variants.

A few remnants of the past glory, ready to be scrapped and replaced by 779 🙂

PS. I'm sarcastic of course, but I would rather prefer that the valuable labor resources that PMDG has in its disposal, would be spent on MAX/787.

MAX and 747 are actual confirmed products for PMDG.   They may not even make a 787.

They may have taken the developers on from QualityWings you never know.

Lets wait for FSExpo to make that assumption. My money is  on 787 announced at FSE series release after the 747. As for a Max or 747 I will take the 747 all day any day.

A LOT of PMDG customers are current/training pilots so historical aircraft will probably never surface again. Sad but a business reality. The 747 is an exception even when it is retired from cargo as well as passenger. It is likely THE most identifiable iconic plane ever made IMO and also has a 'coolness' factor that no other Boeing or Airbus (yet) has or may ever have. It will always sell for PMDG as long as they can get theirs out before someone releases an 'almost' study level plane for free.

I will skip the Max (for ideological reasons) and maybe the 777 unless there is a cheaper cargo variant. I just don't enjoy long haul anymore especially after my return from long term illness. I want to just fly as many flights as possible now, 90 mins about the longest I spend in the air.

I own ALL PMDG planes in FSX (except 1900). It's not the cost of buying again but I've had my fun with all of them and have my fondest memories of the 736, 747 QOTSII, MD-11 and J41.

MAYBE skip the 777. I have all the FCOMS and QRH docs from the old installs gathering dust in my virtual filing cabinet sooooo maybe I will just buy it to have fun with VOR nav again failures/non standard ops. Also....I DO like giving people money for making a great product....and this bird LOOKS like it may be rather well made.

Really? So I must have hallucinated when I saw 7 Lufthansa 747s last night at the gates in EDDF.

Just because Korean and Lufthansa still use them for PAX operations doesn't mean that it isn't dead.

I mean, they did release the DC6 for MSFS. I know, it was a stopgap to give us something good to fly while we waited for better stuff to come along, but they have historically released historical aircraft.

I can't imagine they wouldn't release the 747 for MSFS. I'm actually surprised they're bothering with the MAX. I won't be buying it. Why? Not for ideological reasons, although let's admit, if Boeing were half the company it used to be, the MAX would never have been built and an all-new 737 replacement would have. But because the entire purpose of the MAX was that NG pilots wouldn't have to get a different type certificate. What does that mean? It's gonna feel very similar to flying the NG. Yes, the engines will be different and it may or may not simulate trying to kill me with MCAS, but for the most part, it's gonna be the same flows and characteristics of the old plane. I already own the NG, so I'm good.

Yes agree with all of your post I mean going forward I doubt more historical aircraft. In their past they certainly have!

Right now 01:01Z 08 APR 2024, there are 75 747-400s in flight and 58 747-8s per FlightAware.

Lufthansa intends to keep using them for PAX service for a few more years, and 747 Cargo ops will continue for a long time. Probably at least 10 to 15 years.

747 will be scrapped by the few cargo carriers that still use. too expensive to maintain and running cost four engine aircraft are not economical.
