New MSFS 2024 Trailer - Release date: 11/19/2024

Remember it's going to be running on the same consoles as 2020, so I doubt the system requirements will change that much.

  • I am absolutely hoping for this.. imagine a flight sim where you could hop in and out of any vehicle without having to go to the main menu.. you could fly a heli, land on a field explore the world, th

  • I'm really tired of this argument. You don't want missions? Fine, just do your thing as you used to. No one calls DCS an arcade platform even though it has plenty of missions, so why say that about MS

How about them teasing that the F16 is going to launch with the game day one!

where did you see that?

Sure is! had to go 1/2 speed to catch that. IDK how I missed the cross bar on the canopy

Well I know what Add on I'll be buying first then!

If i learned anything from the release of 2020, it was to not get my hopes up for what I see in a trailor lol

Well the F-18 is part of the base 2020 sim, so it most likely will also be part of base 2024.

First of all, bud, it's 'flying the plane,' not 'driving the plane.' Second, it's hilarious to see grown men getting triggered by a woman of color. The same people who coined the term 'snowflakes' are snowflakes themselves. 🤣

As an IRL pilot, I'll call it whatever I want. Thanks.

I agree that the other guys comment was in poor taste and better left unsaid. The only valid part was the age of the Captain. One simply doesn't skip all the time, experience, and skill to earn the left seat in a Heavy.

I'm not in the least "triggered" by ethnically/gender diverse avatars (or people, of course). I applaud it, in fact, in the hopes that it motivates a bunch of young folks to consider an aviation career when they might not otherwise "see themselves" in that career.

Methinks you doth project too much...

I wonder if Asobo is enhancing ground crew activities such that GSX is much less relevant.  I would feel for Virtuali for taking this project on and then losing market share to this but I also believe Asobo could do a far better job and I would welcome it.  GSX remains squirely at times and I don't blame Virtuali for that he's hamstrung I'm sure by limitations in the SDK or what have you.

I would not be surprised if  MSFT aquihired Virtuali to work directly with Asobo since GSX already integrates into the community's favorite payware planes. Jorg and the team seem very cognizant not to step on the toes of the most successful 3rd party developers in the space, and they have taken great effort to incorporate their work into the sim with licensing deals. Long term it's a brilliant approach to help foster and grow the third party developer ecosystem.

Good point. How often do they upgrade cpus and gpus in xboxen?

At flight expo 2023, there was a written article stating they are trying to optimize the current hardware, which would improve functionality, not make it more demanding.

In saying that, my PC which only can run FSX, needed a cigarette after that trailer

Looks amazing!!! But first thing that comes to mind is....performance...

I see people talking about the 2020 trailer being deceptive but that is a bunch of hogwash aside from some of the water masks not making the final cut. Those trailers were representative, warts and all. Ugly photogrammetry trees, road traffic doing weird things etc were all there and the sim I loaded up looked like the trailer I saw. As I said before, the only thing that wasn't there were some of the water masking (which is there now).

My dream would be that the powers that be opensource the original after 2024 gains market share to let the addon devs make 2020 the 'sim for simmers'.

Because this was a trailer tailored and meant specifically for XBox gaming showcase event. No surprise they focused on the world visuals and missions. And even the missions are all real-life aviation activities at the end of the day, that only increases the breadth and appeal of the sim.

But obviously there are extensive improvements coming in the core sim because they've explicitly said so at last year's FS Expo and follow-up interviews (physics/aerodynamics, improved SDK and aircraft development tools, performance and multi-threading, world rendering and more use of AI/ML, improved weather and better simulation of storms/supercells/etc, seasons, etc etc)

I am sure they'll speak more on the core sim improvements in two weeks at this year's FS Expo. And in recent Q&As they also said they'll be releasing deep dive videos on various aspects of the sim leading up to release.

They have enough resources and manpower to make this the sim for a wide variety of users, including the Serious Simmers ™️, all set in a digital twin earth that looks to be making astonishing leaps and bounds compared to v2020's earth.

And re: the clouds that some are complaining about, in what little is shown in the trailer I can definitely at least see more/new types. Hopefully we'll get details at FS Expo or when they release the deep dive specifically on weather.
