A ridiculous post. MSFS2020 has several excellent training sessions that cover all aspects of flight from beginner level to expert, and I assume they will remain in 2024 (why wouldn't they?). The fact that MSFS2024 includes missions should in no way compromise its ability to meet the needs of simmers of all stripes, as MSFS2020 already does to an amazing degree. As for "arcade games", this is an outworn term of derision that has been passe at least since FSX, even FS9. I challenge any arcade (if they still exist) to come up with anything remotely resembling MSFS2020, let alone MSFS2024.

Very well stated. Perhaps some are just having a bad day. I’m pretty sure flight training will be included for those new to flying to acquire basic knowledge and skills before jumping into a mission. Training has been an integral component as far back as my FS5.1 introduction to flight simulation!

  • I am absolutely hoping for this.. imagine a flight sim where you could hop in and out of any vehicle without having to go to the main menu.. you could fly a heli, land on a field explore the world, th

  • I'm really tired of this argument. You don't want missions? Fine, just do your thing as you used to. No one calls DCS an arcade platform even though it has plenty of missions, so why say that about MS

Complete nonsense. The sim is not being turned into an arcade game.

In real life, you have to seriously learn how to operate an aircraft before you go off and fly any missions.

In real life you also have to seriously learn how to operate any of the aircraft in the sim. What's your point?

Do you think everyone who does serious airliner flights in the sim went to flight school?

Will be nice change to do rescue missions without having to buy a separate addon. A decent A330 from the get go I presume it may be on the standard. If not Premium. I really hope they sort the clouds out.

As he usually does! I can thank Len for nearly all my beneath-the-surface flight sim info/news.

I wonder if ATC will be usable...

You'll be guessing wrong then. Have you really not read or seen all the info out there about all what MS/Asobo have said and shown about what's coming in MSFS 2024 since last year, or are you just turning the blinders on to make such sweeping and non-sensical statements like MSFS is being "turned into an arcade game"?

Well, this looks promising. I can live with arcade stuff (yeah, I know, that's a bad word now) as the fidelity of the underlying simulator is maintained and improved. It does sound like they are trying to do that.

The development team is improving almost every aspect of the simulator. Some examples include:

    • Improved multithreading to improve performance
    • Faster download, load, and installation speeds
    • Improved aerodynamics and physics simulation
    • Improved aircraft systems including electrical, pneumatic, fuel, and hydraulics
    • New failure and wear & tear system
    • Deeper and wider avionics systems
    • Cockpit tablet available by default

None of it is 'arcadey', it's simulating real life jobs.

The eye candy definitely impresses. now let's see if they fixed the silly things like ATC recognizing TOD, proper phraseology and procedures, proper vectoring, AI recognizing the weather and utilizing proper departures and arrivals, or is it going to be the fifth year running that this stuff is neglected?

Watch their presentation from last year from this timestamp onwards (below) where Seb & Jorg dive into what sorts of improvements are coming in above areas, as well as the static/dynamic/living world. As the community manager said yesterday on the official forums, more details about all this are coming between now and release.

So, it took 20 years, but it looks like we finally caught up to FSX’s DX10 concept art!

In real life, you have to seriously learn how to operate an aircraft before you go off and fly at all. No different if the objective is simply a destination, or covering a field in pesticide.

any newbie players thinking they'll be able to just hop in and do what they saw in the trailer will be in for a rude awakening. Jorg himself said there will be a robust tutorial system in place because the career stuff is indeed going to be authentic. Now that being said, we need to cut the "arcade" nonsense out and stop acting like real pilots all over the world are just playing games when they wake up to do these things. This isn't like Call of Duty where you get shot in the head then recover all of your health by not getting hit again for 5 seconds. In order to do the serch and rescue missions in 2024, you will have to be a good helicopter pilot that can quickly hover the aircraft and operate in tight spaces. To be a good crop duster you will have to develop skills to fly at very low altidues. The Career mode is going to be the most realistic thing about MSFS 2024.

Well, it looks like it is a victory for those that wanted Flight Simulator to be turned into an arcade game. Congratulations. I hope you score high points for rescuing little Johnny from the cliff, perhaps even get 'high score'. In real life, you have to seriously learn how to operate an aircraft before you go off and fly any missions. I notice they show a lot of fancy arcade game graphics of 'missions', but don't say much about actually learning how to operate an aircraft. I'm guessing you'll be able to hop in that helicopter and be out scoring rescue points in an hour or less. Just like the real world.

I think you totally missed the point with the trailer. It isn't meant be a deep dive into the features, it's meant to be a graphical showcase, they have 2 minutes to show as much as possible. If you pay attention to the details, you will notice new aircrafts not announced yet, and some of the new features. If you want to know more, look for the interviews Jörg gave last year and also the FSExpo presentation. Also, I'm pretty sure, they will share more details in the coming days/weeks/months.

I wonder if the 5090 will be out by then. Would be great to have a new PC at the same time 🙂
