Why are there so Many Debbie Downer's here? Did they all Migrate from the PMDG 777 Thread?

  • I'm really tired of this argument. You don't want missions? Fine, just do your thing as you used to. No one calls DCS an arcade platform even though it has plenty of missions, so why say that about MS

Lot's of eye candy (like in all trailers) and career mode. I see through that because most people will not be able (if any) to run it at full max from the beginning.
I'm more interested in stuff that still doesn't work decently like ATC and AI behavior.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base & hegykc MFG Crosswind modded pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S for VR

I wonder if the extra detail we're seeing in the clips (Airports with people & staff, bush plane with grass & animals etc) are all hand placed items for Scenarios so essentially "handcrafted areas".

Or preferably that's what the world will be like all over, AI placed items so every airport has "life" of some sort. It'll be interesting to see for sure.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

The main thing for me is this is a Theatrical Trailer designed to look amazing. I've learned my lesson over the years with Activision and EA Sports etc.

The proof will be in the pudding once its fired up on your individual PC. I guess there'll be a lot of people like me who are purists and only care about "flying" as opposed to loading people into ambulances.

Well, it looks like it is a victory for those that wanted Flight Simulator to be turned into an arcade game. Congratulations. I hope you score high points for rescuing little Johnny from the cliff, perhaps even get 'high score'. In real life, you have to seriously learn how to operate an aircraft before you go off and fly any missions. I notice they show a lot of fancy arcade game graphics of 'missions', but don't say much about actually learning how to operate an aircraft. I'm guessing you'll be able to hop in that helicopter and be out scoring rescue points in an hour or less. Just like the real world.

I'm really tired of this argument. You don't want missions? Fine, just do your thing as you used to. No one calls DCS an arcade platform even though it has plenty of missions, so why say that about MSFS?

The benefits of these missions are actually very interesting. They give us new reasons to fly and new things to do instead of flying the same routes, like EGLL to LFPG or KBOS to KMIA, over and over again. You can still do those routes if you want, but missions open up other ways to fly. For example:

- Take a sightseeing flight from a small aerodrome with passengers.
- Fly Evansan to places you don't even know about.
- Pilot a private jet from an executive airport to another with your customer.
- Deliver cargo to a remote location in the middle of the forest or in the tundra.
- Conduct reconnaissance flights to locate a sinking ship.
- Or, if you prefer something familiar, fly a KLM A330 from JFK to Amsterdam.

All of that with believable scenarios, that’s awesome and the possibilities are endless. If I'm not mistaken, Asobo said these missions will be available worldwide, even in free flight mode, which is awesome. But if you're not interested, just keep doing what you've always done.

IDK why it it trendy to call MSFS arcade, maybe it makes you fell superior or something….at the end we are all playing pretending to be pilotes in front of our desk.

We are all pretending to be pilots in front of our desks, but some of us more than others 😉😎

It's labeled a game. Games can have hardcore or arcade modes. It's a valid argument to express a preference. I believe the more sim like folk (myself) are becoming a minority. No problem with that unless the majority don't want to hear our opinions.

They've announced an arcade mode for 2024?

Genuinely funny that some simmers think roleplaying to be an airline pilot are somehow more serious than someone who wants to do crop dusting or medevac sorties. Even though all of these things are things done in the real world.

i can’t believe some would be angry we’re getting the option to finally do more things than just, ROTATE and follow the magenta line. God forbid we actually be able to try out the other areas of commercial flight.

You honestly can’t make this up.

To my understanding, this new version was necessary to keep expanding MSFS within the XBox Hardware limitations. The core engine, and the way data is being handled, is being updated.  I'm a PC user, but i still think this is the most exciting feature of FS2024.
It shows that they are putting in a longer term investment to keep developing the platform for Xbox and PC. The new platform will hopefully allow more headroom for Graphics and Simulation(depth) in the future.

Even if you're an IRL pilot, sitting at your desk, you're still pretending. It's not real life. In your A320 cockpit, you're probably flying solo, without a first officer. You're not talking to real ATC, and the planes around you are likely AI. Even on VATSIM, the experience isn't the same as real life.

Don't act like you're the only one seeking an experience as close to real life as possible. I do too. I fly only real routes, in real time, with real weather, following real procedures. I actually do more research than flying to match airline operations as closely as I can.

But you know what? That doesn't make me a better simmer than others. In fact, it can be the opposite because I tend to overlook other ways of flying. Becoming an elitist, thinking that knowing how to fly my Fenix A320 makes me superior to a an IRL BN2 pilot flying charter operations to the Grenadines or Dominica, is misguided.

The point is, having the option to fly missions doesn't take anything away from what we used to do. At the end of the day, what is closest to real life is having options, and that's exactly what these missions will give us. If I want to fly a charter to the Grenadines and see my passengers arriving in an SUV, boarding my BN2, then disembarking at Union Island to wait for other passengers, I can do it.

But you're acting as if restricting options makes the sim better, like the guy being offended because you can use a black female avatar. That's ridiculous. If you want your white male avatar, choose it. If you want to free fly like before, do it…and just let people have option

You think airport aprons will still get dry 20 seconds after the rain stops ?

I don't have much to say other than I was impressed (not easy to do) about the trailer (less clouds) but after reading some of the negative comments here I can see why Avsim shut down for 24 hr's. Did the Elitist simmer take over the servers so no one could post here? Get over yourselves because you only fly A to B at FL 380 don't make you Elite I would call you a (word not allowed) here and I love my Maddog X. don't make me better than anyone else.

I've read all 14 pages now and I've not seen one poster claim they are "better than someone else". Its been a civil conversation on what type of simming people prefer from what I've seen.

The level of uneccessary drivel on here from some adults really is astonishing.

Neither have I, but degrading remarks about missions and arcade certainly suggest that.

I am thrilled by what I have seen in the second trailer. This will be the most diverse simulator that was ever available and it looks pretty good as well! We will be in for some 'serious simming'. As stated above many times already, this is not only about flying a commercial airliner. There are many more aspects to aviation. Have any of you only flying the tubeliners ever tried to do operations in small aircraft (no AP) to small hazardous airports. Add some challenging weather to the mix and you'll have a steep learning curve, as much as I would have when I would start flying the tubes.

I remember an incident at EHAL in the Netherlands a couple of years ago, when a TL30 microlight aircraft flipped over after landing and ended up on its back. The pilot was a very experienced KLM captain with thousands of hours in tubes. Nevertheless he had a hard time landing a light aircraft on a grass strip in tricky conditions.

No matter what type of flying you do, it's the way you approach it that makes it 'serious simming'. By the looks of it MSFS2024 will make this possible for all tastes.

Cheers, Bert
