The update boring trap

Featured Replies

Ok, this will be not too serious, on the other hand I'm really interested if I'm alone with that phenomenon (I think not).

If there are new updates in the pipeline, I get immediatelly bored with what I currently have.
Now, starting again with MSFS news at FSExpo I really look forward to play it finally. Looking at MSFS 2020 and get a bit bored with it ...

Having the Duke, ride it some days, many hours ... A2A Aerostar announced ... feel bored about Duke.

Fenix V2 ... fly it a lot ... PMDG 777 announced ... bored by Fenix.

I hate it. But I can't do anything against that boring death spiral.
As soon as there's a release on the horizon of a similar product, I get bored by the current.

On the other hand: maybe I'm the perfect customer for all these addon companies out there?

Is this sth. you also feel?
Does one understand me?

(in all seriousness: this is not meant too serious, I know very well that there are much bigger problems on earth. I do not complain. I just wonder if someone else know that feeling)

A good general rule for life, and for simming as well, is that much joy can be found in "wanting what you have, rather than having what you want." I still get a kick from occasionally firing up F

I'd say give yourself some leeway and take a break from simming for a month. I bet in a few weeks you'll be itching to get back in the Duke and Fenix.

I hear ya, lol. Then again, I might be gone tomorrow; All that there is now, I suck it up like crazy 😁

I remember dropping P3D/XP/WS the moment MSFS was announced, I spent most of my time jumping from forum to another, searching for interviews, searching for videos,  till alpha was dropped, then BETA, then final release with each update after that and so on, can't help it, now waiting eagerly for 2024, don't care about new add ons, I will just get some if I ever do just to kill time.

you are not alone mate.

Lol, yeah, that's how I feel, too. It was worth a shot, haha.

People don’t realize it, but flight simming is like model railroad building. The model railroaders don’t ever just sit and play with their trains; they’re always tinkering. Building a new bridge, making a new mountain, assembling a new train, making a new town. The hobby is 5% running trains, and 95% tinkering with things.

Flight simming is the same way. People are always adjusting their system, trying out new tweaks, building new hardware, downloading new utilities, buying new aircraft.

So you can relax, you’re normal!

Good example. Done that also in my childhood for many years

fsx player, for me it comes with flying new routes/cities. My sweet spot is 50 minute flights between airports, but on occasion I will love to sit down and do longer ones. Planning out VOR-to-VOR is a good way to break your normal patterns. I do know they are getting rid of many VORs moving forward, so I suppose intersection to intersection.

But just VFR flying with no ATC flight following would get somewhat stale. Part of the fun is mixing it up with the traffic, doing IFRs with or without poor visibility, etc. But then again, I own a ton of planes, yet,  I almost exclusively fly 450+ knots in the F16.

Not been bored with it since MSFS released. I use about 12 different airframes at the moment, the only ones that overlap being the BBJ/BDSF and CEO/NEO/P2F.

Pick them up where I left them, and fly a route I like the look of. So much quality stuff I've found plenty to do to fill my spare time without boredom...

I have about 10 or 12 aircraft I purchased that I haven't flown yet.  Sad, and a waste of money.  Quite a few are the local legends or famous flyers - Fairly cheap at least with my Premium Deluxe owner discount.

I haven't even looked at the Skyvan yet and I love that aircraft.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

i have a suggestion for you.

On your next flight, always depart from the airport you arrived at last time.

You are only allowed to have 1 aircraft of each type. So, if you want to fly a C172 for instance, you will have to travel to the airport you left it at using another type (you will have to keep an administration of that yourself i suppose). So your fleet will be spread across the globe.

And, if you haven't already. try VR. Your entire fleet will feel as new addons again.
