The update boring trap

Featured Replies

Yeah man, I totally get what you mean. BATC releasing with traffic soon, too. Really eager to try that out. I’ve opened MSFS like 2 times since all of these update announcements. On the bright side, I’ve gotten way more done around the house 😂

Luckily, if all goes well, the 777 will come out tomorrow 😁

A good general rule for life, and for simming as well, is that much joy can be found in "wanting what you have, rather than having what you want." I still get a kick from occasionally firing up F

I am on my world tour since July 2018. Currently on leg 243 from VEGY to VEBN. 1/3 of the route are done and I expect to finish in 2030.

Ok, this will be not too serious, on the other hand I'm really interested if I'm alone with that phenomenon (I think not).

If there are new updates in the pipeline, I get immediatelly bored with what I currently have.
Now, starting again with MSFS news at FSExpo I really look forward to play it finally. Looking at MSFS 2020 and get a bit bored with it ...

Having the Duke, ride it some days, many hours ... A2A Aerostar announced ... feel bored about Duke.

Fenix V2 ... fly it a lot ... PMDG 777 announced ... bored by Fenix.

I hate it. But I can't do anything against that boring death spiral.
As soon as there's a release on the horizon of a similar product, I get bored by the current.

On the other hand: maybe I'm the perfect customer for all these addon companies out there?

Is this sth. you also feel?
Does one understand me?

(in all seriousness: this is not meant too serious, I know very well that there are much bigger problems on earth. I do not complain. I just wonder if someone else know that feeling)

Try something totally new and unique, the MD11 releases on July 2nd. She’ll need a great Streamdeck profile 😉

If you actually added something beyond 'newness' to get your serotonin flowing you might avoid your death spiral, of which I can't relate and I have maybe 4000h in MSFS thus far, in primarily 4 planes.  Maybe you have, dunno.  If not, consider adding something like Self Loading Cargo along with A Pilot's Life to add some meaning to your air time.  I'm never bored because the combination of the flight scoring routines in each app makes it very challenging to score high all the time which is my goal always.  Here's an example from my recent flight history, and this is only SLC's scoring:

All I need is a small handful of planes and the world to explore. ALL of it.

Never get bored, never buy what they want me to.

IF it's good it's ALWAYS good.

That Aussie tour was PMDG 736/9 F28 and Lear 35A.

have to google where the 777 come from, and which route they take.

A simple trick I use: (I don't remember anyone mentioning it?)

CHANGE the PILOT SEAT for the COPILOT SEAT as a default! I swear; the plane you know by heart and got bored with will suddenly feel COMPLETELY different!!!

👍

The key word is Dopamine kick. Its created by the brain because you want something knew and you get promised by becoming something knew.

Its a human psychology function which is exact the same when you take drugs like cocaine or heroin.

No, I'm not joking here. I have a bit of a psychology therapist background and also learned about this for my coaching work.

Meta, Instagramm, drugs, Microsoft MSFS need to "get you" as long as possible because they survive only when you stay at the Plattform...(You and millions of others). That's the business model....giving us regular something for free.

That exactly is something we know and when we get the Information what to expect, we feel excited and want to have it. Our brains create dopamine (really exact the same process when using hard drugs) but only not that bad for your body', but also not completely harmless to your psychological health.

Why? Because you basic three needs as a human are: Dominance, feeling Secure and get stimulated.

The whole gaming industry (and meta and co) know how it works. Thumbs up, followers and free content ...does make people really dependent on these platforms. They get really fixated on them.

You should really be taking care about your boringness. Do something else....get out in nature, sports, balance yourself (of not done already!). Maybe you know all this already. But lots of people don't.

They really begin to ask themselves why they feel so bored....or even down ...or depressive.

That's how our human being works....

Do not feel offended or attacked.....I wanted to take the chance to explain how quick a "harmless simulator" can bring people to some serious dependencies.

(I'm a scrum master from profession and coach people as well, and my girlfriend is psychology therapist for youth and children). We are seriously interested in explaining and helping others who got in trouble and so distracted from themselves because of games, meta and co).

:-).

PS....Im also very excited about 2024. But I like 2020 a lot ....(Because it's not my main hobby....but just one of my hobbies).

Marcus P.

I did that for a whole year in FSX. Yoke right hand throttles left?

Yes please!

I understand you.

But right now I am flying the Big Radials Noorduyn Norseman floatplane up the Amazon River in Brazil.  I started at the mouth (near Macapa) and am presently in Santarem.  I plan to fly all the way to the SOURCE of the Amazon, which has just been re-adjusted a few years ago.  I want to see what the source looks like in MSFS.

I don't get bored doing things like that.

Maybe next month I will do 777 flying, totally by the book, etc. etc. in stark contrast to the "Indiana Jones" type of flying I'm currently doing with the Norseman floatplane.

I still get a kick from occasionally firing up FSX and flying the PMDG MD-11 or Jetstream 41, or from a session of Duke Nukem or Doom.

What helps me in those situations, especially with flight sim, is to get inspired again: Watching a cockpit video of the A320 (ApproachAndDepartureVideos is amazing!) makes me want to jump straight into the Fenix again! Watching flightdeck videos featuring GA aircraft inspires me to recreate those flights, and so on.
