PMDG sold 6000 copies of the 777 in 3 minutes

While it's not the 737 or 777, Randazzo from PMDG did state that the sales of DC6 in MSFS outsold all the DC6 lifetime sales in FSX, P3D, and XP, within hours of the DC6 release for MSFS: https://youtu.be/qKadQrREujM?t=557.

So I highly doubt PMDG sold 4000 copies of the 777 in 3 minutes for FSX or P3D, if what Randazzo is reporting for the DC6 sales of MSFS to be true.  I mean, think of it. You spend years selling the DC6 for FSX, P3D, and XP.  And then within hours of releasing the DC6 for MSFS, you outsell the lifetime sales of the DC6 you made for FSX + P3D + XP. Do you really think PMDG sold 4000 copies for the 777 for FSX or P3D when their DC6 sales in FSX and P3D was so much lower than MSFS?

That was exactly the core of my question. Which part of the MSFS-users vs. the part of P3D-users back then purchased the addon at release? It’s not about success or not, I have zero doubt that the success should be bigger for a sim with a much larger userbase. But as someone with a scientific background, when numbers are being communicated, I like to have them be put into perspective for being able to have a better idea. As I said, I have never questionned the success of PMDG or MSFS, even less that I am convinced that it has been a benefit for other plattforms as well 😉

This is great news. The more profitable flight sim is, the more future-proof it is.

But you're the one accusing others of not having "ability" to understand in an aggressive manner. Which is as "ad hominem" as it gets.

How more polite should I express, when someone doesn’t understand something after the third time?

And how do you call what you just wrote with that childish smiley? Not agressive?

Actually people, who really cares how many copies were sold!

It is not important for enjoyment of the product!

Some people need to get a life and just not worry about PMDG sales numbers!

No one here can report with certainty what type of sales occurred.

Don't be Randazzled by RSR's comments.

Don't feed the Extra Plain Trolls.  Right on queue they show up at any ultra positive MSFS forum topic, start challenging anything possible in order to stir up reactions (it's why trolls troll....) so as to hopefully get the thread shut down this as their ultimate end game.

But MSFS 2020 is a juggernaut, and MSFS 2024 will likely increase the competition even further.

Market realities always have a way of cutting thru the b.s and spin 🙂 PMDG's astonishing sales figures in the first few seconds/minutes is just a clear exhibit of that. The latest FS Expo was another.

I'm hoping RSR reveals more sales and uptake figures as the 777 proceeds along in the coming months, especially after it makes it on to the MSFS marketplace too (we know there is a real appetite for high fidelity aircraft there given PMDG's 737 experience, how A2A spent the effort to reactor their code to make everything internal to the sim and be eligible for the marketplace, FSReborn's Raul's updates on how the marketplace has been a boon for him, etc).

Would be really interesting to hear from Fenix, iniBuilds, A2A, JustFlight et al too.

That was the point since the beginning of this topic, you are the one trying to go off-topic. Maybe open a new topic with whatever you are trying to discuss here.

FWIW, the only salty comments I see around this thread are the ones trying to clearly provoke 3rd parties from other simulators, it's simply the OP's objective here, period. Clear as crystal.

Otherwise, I fail to find any reasoning for him to "worry" about 3rd parties from other simulators in an MSFS forums in a an alleged PMDG sales discussion.

Clearly, there is LOTS of hatred among some childish folks around here towards other simulators 3rd parties, or anyone who does not conform with the narratives they try to set.

I really can't emphasize more how ridiculous this community around here in avsim looks in an objective non-biased eye, heck, even known MSFS developers are mocking this community these days, no wonder so few 3rd parties are even around here anymore, from any simulator.

I can’t talk for him, but the salty comments didn’t start here in this forum. I’ve seen salty comments from a lot of x-plane developers, and not just in Avsim. Even Austin is being salty since 2019. Read his personal blog or watch his interviews.

I don’t like the saltiness, but it’s a game we can all play.

Why shouldn't we discuss this topic? Do you realize that history is possibly being made with this PMDG 777 release? To put this in context, maybe you should read this comment from Reddit:

I remember when couple thousand sales were a good result for a project, and the really big names could crack 10000.

Lifetime, not on release.

Things really have changed.

So if history is being made in flight simulation and specifically with MSFS, we shouldn't discuss this? Are you the type that will bury good news, especially when that good news is of a new record being set?

Also, another question for you. So it's okay for other people to discuss this on Reddit, but we can't discuss the same topic here?

Edit: And just as I posted this comment, yet another post appeared in Reddit on this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/flightsim/comments/1dpt5mu/how_much_do_you_guys_think_pmdg_made_net_off_the/. It's crazy that some Avsim members think this topic is a taboo discussion here, while it's perfectly okay to discuss this on Reddit.

Cant speak for other developers and their behavior, the only one I saw here was Goran, and his response was perfectly fine.

I cant understand the logic here though, if a certain developer had a salty comment, this means all others in that other side deserve the same attitude? Please clarify.

We can try to discuss this great success in a mature way, or you can try to keep belittiling my intellegince with those claims.

I fail to see why the flight factor's T7 or thranda's sales are releveant, why the comments from thranda from xp org as well, let alone you and others are clearly mocking them, not even attempting to make it hidden.

I also fail to see why reddit, a site the only time I visit was as a result in google search, is relevant as well, or has anything to support the attitude or behavior here.

Like I've said, I'm talking about the origin of all this saltiness. It didn't start here. I'm not talking specifically about this thread. Both sides are salty.

This discussion was being done mostly in a mature way, but obviously when outsiders start trolling the toxicity level will raise. Goran was civil in this thread indeed, but he was salty also on several occasions. I will say it again, it goes both ways.

That said, if you think the subject isn't relevant, you can just ignore. I do that all the time.
