PMDG sold 6000 copies of the 777 in 3 minutes

Recommended Posts

I wish we had the option to ignore a whole thread in addition to ignoring users. I’m excited to talk about the 777 or what’s new in XP (have and enjoy both sims), but in both forums the top/most active thread is just people arguing incessantly!

It baffles me cause I love that we have a growing flight sim market with two great sims getting better every day (probably Aerofly etc as well, I don’t know them). I can understand Jorg arguing with Austin cause it’s their respective baby, but why anyone else? Also I’m absolutely certain that the real devs, whether third party or the core developers, wouldn’t argue, but rather respect each other because they understand how much hard work it takes to build stuff like this.

Anyway, hopefully this blows over soon.

Let me put this to rest right now.  Developers in competing platforms, absolutely do help each other.  There are a few forums dedicated to it.  I've helped 3D modellers with their modelling and texturing for XP and MSFS.  I haven't asked for help yet, because I'm happy with my modelling, and I have no need for help with coding, because I work with a coding master.  But yes, we do help each other, because add ons are one of the pillars that support this hobby, and we're all trying to make a living.

Yup, that’s what I’ve seen in my field of work. We compete, sure, but when I meet another professional who does what I do, most of the time we have so much in common, it’s very easy to get along.

Reddit user suggests that their 777 order number was ~592,000 on release day. Another one replied to the comment (posted 10 hours ago) that their order number is ~611,000.

That means approximately 20,000 purchases ($1.55m revenue) in just over 24 hours. https://www.reddit.com/r/flightsim/comments/1dp33et/comment/lafk74z

This Reddit user said their order number was 588### within the first minute of it being available so it looks like a few thousand more were sold before order 592### came up:

My order number was 588### within the first minute or so of it being available, so likely another 3-4k or more before your order even.

Hopefully, more people respond in that Reddit thread, or respond here on Avsim, and maybe we can get a good estimate of the number sold in the first 24 hours.

Looks like we have the numbers already

  • t=0:  588###
  • t=12:  607### (roughly 19,000 units @ $77.73; gross revenue around $1.475 million)
  • t=24: 611### (about 4,000 units in subsequent half day @ $77.73; gross revenue about $311 thousand)

So close enough for government work, gross revenue is around $1.8 million with a lot more still on the way. Of course, none of this includes the eventual releases on the Marketplace and xBox.

A nice day's work, but I doubt it yet covers the all-in lifetime cost of development, support, "free updates", etc. We have discussed this previously on this forum, but we really don't have a clue what those costs might be. Those other revenue streams that are unique to MSFS will provide a robust supplement to direct sales. More power to the folks at MSFS/Asobo for creating this outstanding ecosystem, and to the team at PMDG (and all the other add-on developers) for building these amazing products to take advantage of the opportunity.

Never get tired of grown adults squabbling about XP vs. MSFS like kids on Reddit.  Also never tire of how threads like this just happen to attract XP users like flypaper, because they can't help themselves.

When I looked at the thread title and how many pages it was, I already knew what happened.

Don't forget tax off the top ...

And $ 2,000 a week, or whatever it is, for their digital delivery platform.

Gross Profit coming down by the week.

It does, the White Knights Society who blow smoke up Jorg Neumann's rear end to earn bonus brownie points are just as bad as fans of other Sims coming here to get a kick to their egos.

Both sides, you're pathetic and immature, shut up!

Just more nonsense!

I've seen companies use random order numbers to this information is never accurate.

Like I said before, why do you all even care? Geez!
