What is your source? Let me guess…you don’t have any, correct?

Marketplace presentation, Randazzo's insights, inibuilds insights.

Believe it or not, those are the numbers.

Oh but the context can be put together rather well, even now.. The comparison is well known by, the best source, PMDG themselves 🙂 RSR said yesterday that their 777 for MSFS outsold their 737 for MSFS by over seven times comparing first day sales. And they said multiple times before that the 737 for MSFS has outsold their P3D/FSX versions by orders of magnitude.

Yes, and to add on - one of their early MSFS addons (either the DC-6 or 737-700) sold more than all their other addons combined (or something similar...).

No matter how you cut it, or whether you like the pricing or not, this is a simply stupendous success!

Arn't there way more MSFS users now?

If so I'll reiterate a previous query - will the devs of other sims now jump onto the ship that is actually sailing?

It seems there are MANY more. Otherwise, MS/Asobo wouldn't have bragged about 12M (now 15M) unique players. And/Or, other sim publishers would've piped up with their own numbers somewhere in the same neighborhood.

Moving your dev efforts from one sim to another is a HUGE jump. We've seen iniBuilds do it, Flying Iron Sims, and perhaps CowanSim.

And we know Just Flight have pulled sharply back from supporting their X-Plane versions (produced by Thranda) due to lack of demand. E.g., the seemingly popular BAe 146 has yet to receive even a compatibility update for X-Plane.

And Thranda have said they actually lost money on the BAe 146 port... 😞

Further, we see a couple devs complaining they're in fairly dire financial straights. E.g., Thranda and Aerobask - both very good devs - have directly stated they're having trouble.

OTOH, we have devs like Goran who are stating they're satisfied with business, and AFAIK, they've never had a sale on their $115 Challenger 650 addon. Indicating a healthy ongoing demand.

We'll see, for sure. And while I still love and fly X-Plane, I wouldn't mind it if Thranda and Aerobask at least diversified over to include MSFS in their platforms.

I suspect that whatever pressure MSFS is putting on X-Plane 3rd party devs, it will increase significantly once v2024 releases.

Hi, may I ask do you have a link for this information? I would love to read more about it. Thanks.

Edit: I found the source, it's https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/305352-any-discount-for-xp11-pc-6-version-users/&

Wow, MSFS is putting a lot of pressure on Thrandra. I wish Thrandra the best of luck.

Comparing any current flight sim in any context to MSFS is like comparing the Wright flyer to the Saturn V IMO.

If you're aiming for hyperbole, you've certainly hit the mark.

I'd say it's more like a 727 vs a 737 NG.

And let's not forget that there are quite a few things upon which MSFS needs to improve.

And even a few that it just doesn't cover at all.

A few e.g.'s are helos, ground handling (particularly with taildraggers), mil jets, and certainly air combat.

Now you can guess what some of your friends were doing in another forum today…bingo. You know them good as it seems 😉

Ummm sure ok? Whatever you say sport.. seems like in addition to being an expert on how PMDG is really doing and flight sim market dynamics, you also know who my "friends" are, and are clairvoyant enough to know how good I know them and what they're doing. To what do we owe this honour of keen insights and knowledge you give us?

X Plane was OK back in the day. So were TVs with CRTS.. Those days are gone forever.

X-Plane remains far more than "okay".

And though MSFS is deservedly the marketshare King, he definitely still has his flaws and shortcomings.

Man, plane designer's charging more than DCS prices... literally made it $77.7 as a troll and yal still bought it... yikes. Looks like I'll stick with DC designs, milviz, and aerosoft into 2024. Crazy prices

DC Designs...really?

MilViz doesn't sell addons any more (well, not to dirty civilians like us)

and Aerosoft has only managed to "improve" on their checkered reputation from FSX/P3D.

There are far better devs at lower prices with which to make a point.

Tho I'll say i'm neither surprised nor displeased with the 777's price. It's a top shelf addon at a top shelf price. I mean, heck, it's still cheaper than the MadDog...

Yet it was you who were called out in public by a moderator for aggressive behavior?  🤡

Are you triggered by the presence of other peoples opinions? Was there even a reason to act so emotionally, Franz?

The shortcoming that XP has is most people avoid it.

Ask any 13 year old new to Flight Simulation and they will say the same thing.  Now you know the extent of the problem.

Sorry meant blackbird sims aka milviz. DC/SC designs has really improved from fsx days imo.

Well, this is quite the thread. Users (not who I have quoted here) still infiltrate with words that try to downplay yet another success on the Flight Simulator platform. Zealous emotion continues to reign supreme on AVSIM!

However, reading the above quote did catch my attention, as I have raised this point often here and on other forums. We may never see the Falcon 8X in XP due to a decline in sales for Aerobask. For reasons undisclosed Thranda and Aerobask have not joined the ranks of developing for MSFS despite the resounding success stories on the platform. Several months ago, the 8X developer indicated a desire to try the pre-release method to generate revenue to continue the Falcon. Dassault, I can only assume said no to this proposal as the Falcon 8X release on the XP platform remains very uncertain.

Anyways, congrats to PMDG for what appears to be a new sales record!
