PMDG sold 6000 copies of the 777 in 3 minutes

From Randazzo in the PMDG forum:

So PMDG is paying over 300K USD for their cloud server, and they also sold 6000 copies of the 777 within 3 minutes. 6000 x $77.73 USD = $466,380 USD, in 3 minutes. The revenue for the PMDG 777 will probably be several million USD, if I have to guess, especially when it release on XBox (I think it may even sell over $10 million USD).

No wonder why PMDG can afford their own private jet:

Man, plane designer's charging more than DCS prices... literally made it $77.7 as a troll and yal still bought it... yikes. Looks like I'll stick with DC designs, milviz, and aerosoft into 2024. Crazy prices

Well ... have a look into my videos (link in my signature). I have shown the superiority of X-Plane and the flaws of MSFS in regards of FLIGHT simulation *. Videos don't lie ... I made an informed choice 😄.

Let's see you keep that same energy when 2024 launches.

Anyway, guys. Let us slow down and recognize something. This is a thread about positive news in the MSFS sub forum. We know how it goes. At this point I'd suggest avoiding a certain line of conversation before the mods come in with the padlock.

I can test both myself, and get my own assessments, but thanks for the sugestion.

His level of seething and coping (re: anything MSFS positive related or success related) is something to behold 🤣. Guess they have nothing better to do elsewhere (for obvious reasons) except hang around all eagle-eyed on a forum for a sim they don't like and think is flawed compared to their precious ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just phantasizing :

If they sold 6000copies in 3 minutes , that would be 120000 copies in 1h and in 3h 360000 copies

How many serious flightsimmers does MSFS have ? Wasn’t it 10 million players incl XBox.

Lets say half of them are pc users : 5 million. So 1 out of 13-14 pc users has bought it.

If sales continue for a few days then almost everyone will purchase the 777…

Mmmmm…

Those numbers weren't sustained for hours. Those were peaks that lasted minutes.

But yeah, in the long term they are making a few millions (8 figures?).

Incorrect, we do have what PMDG themselves have said... here, let's make it real simple if that helps you comprehend: PMDG's 737 for MSFS did much better than their 737 for P3D (*overall*, not just during the time of MSFS) ... and now based on first day sales, their 777 for MSFS did 7x better than their 737 for MSFS.

I read too quickly and have to come back to this. All I was asking for is if we had exact numbers for P3D. « Much better » is not a clear measure. If we assume that MSFS has at least 10x or 20x more users than P3D used to have, did they also sold 10x or 20x less copies in the first 3 minutes for P3D? Otherwise it isn’t a clear indicator on how good 6000 is in relation to the entire number of sim-users compared to what they achieved in P3D. That’s all. So the answer is: no you don’t have those numbers. Case closed. Thanks.

Some of us are overflowing with positive energy.  I'm a GA guy and happy to see my sim of choice being successful.

MSFS has a lot more than 20x the P3D numbers, that's for sure. It's more closer to 200x prime time vs prime time. MSFS user base is 15mi, if you want to know compare, ask lockheed guys teir numbers in their prime time, and we can set a comparison.

Like Flight Factor would love to achieve such sales. But we know, it will not happend.

based on what I've seen so far, I'm betting their plan has been to price it higher.

Maybe not so much any more...?

OTOH, all the Toliss Airbus addons are $90, and have been for a couple years, even since Fenix came out at $60-ish.

Nobody outside the respective organisations does–it's commercially sensitive information.

The only thing we can do is speak in relative terms. PMDG's sales of the 737 in MSFS surpassed anything they ever previously experienced and their 777 sold '7 times' the volume of first day sales for the 737 in MSFS.

That's extraordinarily good.

Exact numbers are PMDG's to give or not (hint: they're not going to give). But what they've said on multiple occasions is how their sales for the MSFS 737 has been much more than their 737 for P3D over all time it's been available for P3D. Yes the particular 1000x figure he quoted once might've been for the current situation, he didn't specify, and that's besides the point. So assuming the worst case of let's say 2x or 3x better than P3D sales overall.. And now in first day sales the astounding sales activity of their 777 for MSFS, selling seven times what the MSFS 737 did on first day sales. So given all that, in the worst case, simple logic would say that the MSFS 777 is going to do non-trivially better than the MSFS 737, and the MSFS 737 per PMDG already did non-trivially better than the P3D 737.  So that then gives a good indication on how good the 6000 sales in 3 minutes stat is compared to what they did in P3D. Case not closed. Thanks.

And even without all that, just looking at the single stat from yesterday all by itself.. doing this much sales in such short a time (seconds/minutes) is astounding for a price point of $77+ in 2024, and that is a very clear indicator (to those who employ basic logic) about how the MSFS ecosystem is doing.

Aside to all: I'm kinda glad their e-commerce infrastructure took on such a load yesterday causing the delay issues, it made RSR give us some raw stats of sales activity for the first few seconds/minutes/hours that we probably otherwise would not have given us 🙂
