London Photogrammetry Still Bad

Anyone seeing better PG with rolling cache on? I always have it off. I thought that to get any benefits, you need to fly over an area frequently. Hence one pass over a PG city is not enough?

I am flying on A Pilots Life currently for British Airways. Numerous approaches to EGLL, in fact I am heading flying the Fenix to London now, I see no issues at all with PG on. I have never used rolling cache.

  • buildings look melted until they gradually load into full detail I would say Photogrammetry is not suited to flying over London at Mach 2.0 or in the drone expecting perfection it's best vie

  • every single street and building in London (and beyond) is rendered in high quality with PG WU17, OrbX doesn't get anywhere close

  • I only know, and my system specs are below, but flying into EGLL is now perfect, no stutters, buildings fully rendered, no melted look as before. One of the best visual updates to date in my book.

Orbx does not intend to be "close".
None of the Orbx POI products include any photogrammetry and
the POIs are scenery objects, something altogether different.

The photogrammetry looks a lot better in this update, and also some how has better performance than before.

I was responding to a claim that OrbX London looks better than WU17, I never said OrbX claimed to be better than PG

Nor did I, I was just pointing out that photogrammetry and POI scenery objects are two entirely different things, not least because POI scenery objects are, by definition, individual objects, whereas the new and excellent photogrammetry is every building, whether of particular interest or not.
Two entirely different things and as such, there is no "Orbx London", only Orbx points of particular interest in London.

Don't bother me with this nonsense! It's a game. I want to fly over the city very low! 🤣

But is it okay to have the PG on with this update and use ORBX? Thought there was some kind of conflict…

I am using Orbx London with WU17 quite happily. Haven't checked out Orbx GB South yet, but London is fine with the new World Update. Better than fine, I would consider it necessary still. Some of the stuff in the update is a bit out, to my eyes. HMS Belfast is apparently a couple of pleasure cruisers in the PG version, and Battersea Power Station is still a bit of a building site, whereas the Orbx version is more of a finished item. There may be other stuff too. Plus, POIs are (usually) much better visually than PG.

London photogrammetry has been problematic since MSFS release🤣

Personally I love the new PG. I flew out of EGLC the other night and was chuffed.

PG simply can't be as clean and nice as handcrafted scenery. It's an imperfect tool, but the trade-off of having an accurate rendition of the city below me more than makes up for the imperfections. And, as with any technology, as they make small steps forward in the tools and methods available, it will continue to improve.

I don't care if it's perfect, I care that positive progress is made, and that's what I'm seeing.

Yes I have done just that for hours on end. it's great as as others say above, fps is also increased.  Orbx pacts do not render the scenery in general any differently than Asobo. They just add things on top of it, their own versions of these interesting things (POIs). Like the London Eye. Which happens to look ok but not great in Asobo's WU. But really nice in the Orbx version. Lots and lots of POI's.

But UK N,C,S, and London City pack is 4 paywares. Add Orbx EGLC and it's 5. Before the WU they were worth it. Now, after the WU, I'm not sure they are. The new Asobo bespoke airports are nice too. I'm not sure the other payware versions are worth their price any longer.

In general, as time has moved on, the newer Asosbo bespoke airports are better than the bespoke airports that came with the older WUs.

I haven't had Asobo rolling cache on in years, I'm going to have to try it, based on messages above. I have 1.6 TB of my 4 TB drive free.
