Looks like 2024 will be a world simulator, with the option to fly. There’s probably going to be all sorts of non-aviation related addons. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Has someone ever asked Jörg whether this new increased realism will apply to the entire world or just North America/Europe/Japan/Australia, as is the case with FS2020?

The digital life is the future, no one has to live a normal life anymore, you live your own dream life connected to a supercomputer instead while AI takes care of the world around us.

That sounds so…well….lazy and loserish. I personally wouldn’t want that for my own life.

It applies to the entire world, but some places will look better than others based on the quality of the available data.

Jorg said last Q&A that they have photogrammetry of several African cities, though he didn’t say which ones.

They’re currently working on a Brazil world update.

They didn’t ask.

But we saw new AI models in the second trailer.

Hmm, call me an old fashioned git... but I would be happier if the devs concentrated their efforts in continual support and development of a flight simulator, rather than adding a load of elements that can be found in other computer games. If I wanted to walk around, go for a swim and make myself breakfast after spending the night in a tent, then I wouldn't buy a flight simulator!

Well they added that for doing outside aircraft inspections like an actual pilot would, being able to walk freely is just a bonus. Seb mentioned there being outside checklists as well.

Physical wear and tear was mentioned.

.. it sounds more as a threat than a promise in regards to the MS server structure

In real life you want to walk around your aircraft before every flight. So an added bonus to the sim.

There's more money to be made in a full earth simulator than a simulator dedicated to flight, like it or not they'll create something that sells more and the former will far out sell the latter.

It's really only a matter of time before they remove the word 'Flight' from the title altogether.

Sure, good point. From that angle I can see it being rather cool.

Less lazy and loserish and more being able to experience things you otherwise couldn't. I can't afford a private jet. If I could experience one in simulated reality via a brainjack so it was like I was actually there, yeah I'd sign up for that. It doesn't mean I'd spend my entire life jacked into the net because I'd go experience the real things that were in reach but, even for billionaires there are certain things that are largely out of reach, such as landing on the Moon.

Real will, I think, always be better but when real is impossible, virtual is the next best thing.

Exactly

Modest wishlist for 2024:

  1. Fix suicidal ground personnel
  2. Fix and match live weather
  3. Fix photogrammetry (eg. dark lines in water and bridges)
  4. Finalize replay functionality
  5. Working windshield wipers
  6. Pilot controlled lighting

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

You are old fashioned. Absolute waste to create a platform that's essentially a world twin and not take advantage of it by branching out, allowing more venues of exploring and enjoying it. That's short-sighted. Just like I'd love to see water physics improve to a point where you could turn the entire thing into a potential ship simulator as well, the potential is there. I thank the stars the sim has the resources and the studio / higher-ups have the interest in creating a product that reaches beyond just a tunnel-visioned flight simulator -- Especially because a function like walking around still has many flight simulator uses.
