Old, complex, study airliners or lack there of?

Featured Replies

Stupid amounts of quality glass airliners out there but to me there is a definite void in complex steam gauge planes.

PMDG DC-6 and Fokker F-28 (more of a regional than true airliner); is all there really is, right?

Just Flight no longer list a 747-100/200 on their site so seems they have dropped it all together?!

Where are the likes of a ....?

The thing with old airliners is, I'm a middle-aged man and yet I cannot remember any of those airliners. I never saw them in action, let alone been flying with one of them. I don't have any sort of me

  • You missed out the JustFlight BAe 146 Professional, that's all steam with the option of an FMS. And their Avro RJ should be out soon for those prefer more of a hybrid EFIS and FADEC setup.

  • Insulting people with trite, childhish stuff like this is totally the best way to draw their attention on niche areas of simulation. Totally.

There's a 707 in development coming very soon from Aeroplane Heaven. I have my doubts about it's fidelity though.

On the Soviet/Russian side, as their avionics are so different from Western types, they usually rely on Russian developers to create them. The current geopolitical situation, probable poor return on investment, and likely inability to even receive income from non-Russian audiences due to financial sanctions sadly make those types extremely unlikely for the foreseeable future.

Regarding the others, there is allegedly a 737-200 in dev by Blackbird/Milviz, but they've been claiming that since 2020/early 2021, so I have my doubts there too.

As for the others, I think the bulk of sim users are preferring more modern aircraft, so the list you outlined, while likely popular here or with older crowds, probably wouldn't be as popular as the latest and greatest Airbus or Boeing aircraft.

Very little demand for them really.

Hardly anyone even flies the DC6 anymore.

No, thanks.

I hope that Just Flight will make L1011 as portover of their P3D version

Interesting. I guess I'm in the crowd of hardly anyone, I guess. I didn't get that memo

Yuppers! The 146 is amazing and looking forward to the RJ version.

I think the issue with all of those is a lack of demand relative to the investment required; our best hopes are the EFIS generation where they have a moving map (e.g. Boeing's 737-300/-400 and 757). That's because many users are now too young to remember pre-1980s types in service, and another large cohort are "children of the magenta" who need a moving map and VNAV to feel comfortable. That's compounded by the British types in particular not selling well, and I say that as someone with a lot of love for the super VC10 (kudos if you get the pun); I don't see the 737-200 Adv or 727-200 getting mentioned much on sim forums despite them being the biggest sellers of the 1960s.

I personally would love a detailed Jetstream 41 or Saab 340B but I just don't see it happening, regional airliners are very much my thing and I suppose we're fortunate to have the ATR. I do wonder how well the Maddog X MSFS (MD80/82/88) ports have sold. We might get some classics covered by Aeroplane Heaven as they were in P3D, but is the fidelity where we'd want it to be?

Speak for yourself. It's all I fly, and the A2A B377, both in FSX. I'm not interested in buying the same exact plane (DC-6) for FS2020.

I see I've missed, and am surprised no one mentioned, the Red Wing L-1049 Constellation. I assume no one mentioned it because it's most recent quality and refinement release is still several steps below expectations.

MD-11 is also very popular.

I don't think the DC6 in FSX has the issues that the MSFS version does.

A B742 would be fantastic, never had a good one available in P3D since RFP for FS9 and FSX with no 3D cockpit! JustFlight had one planned in development (at an advanced stage) for P3D that vanished without explanation and was never announced for MSFS, what a shame.

I would also like to see a good L1011. But I think the one Just Flight made is the -500.  I would like to see the first model Lockheed made which I think is the L1011-1. The most common.

?  Not having issues with my DC6 - which I enjoy flying a great deal....
