This is great news! Happy that they made this decision instead of my previous, clearly incorrect, understanding! They really do a lot of positive customer stuff - things like this change/decision, the discount on local legends for premium deluxe users, the work WT has done to improve the base aircraft for free.. list goes on.

They will have to maintain those for the MSFS2020 users anyway. But they won't be updated to 2024 level because they will need to stay compatible to MSFS2020.

So for current premium/deluxe owners you can save some money by choosing the basic versions but most likely the MSFS2020 bonus aircraft and airports will stay at their current state, apart from bug fixes.
If you want these improved to MSFS2024 flight models and details you will probably have to get the more expensive versions.

We don’t know that though. I’m sure we’ll get conformation on that tomorrow. Either we get the upgraded airports and planes for free or only get to use the 2020 version of those

Considering the Deluxe or even Premium Deluxe...

For 2020 my main Store purchases were the AN225, ATR 72 and the C-47... and a few more residual purchases like the trees mod, and two Carenados...

As to carry over from market place and default planes it makes perfect sense to carry over what you paid extra but not all included default planes you bought eg through the 2020 premium version. 
I know that comparison may have logical errors but assume you bought a BMW 5 (add your favorite make here) which comes with DAB radio and tinted windows. You then also bought winter tires and a roof box. 
Now if you buy a new BMW 5 facelift model you can hardly buy one without DAB and tinted windows and ask BMW to „carry them over“, right. You will need again to buy the 5 with DAB and tinted windows. However, your winter tires and roof box you can of course use with the new car. 

means. I will not get the default games I bought in 2020 unless I also buy the respective 2024 version. 
However, I will be able to use with 2024 what I bought for 2020

'2024 will increasingly diverge from '2020 over time so even if they don't add any new features any '2020 port to '2024 will require additional changes from MS over time to match changes to the base of '2024 that won't be needed for the '2020 version.

Some simmers have mentioned that they got the AE because they dont want to "miss out on features". This has made me curious. All editions have the same base game, the only thing is the AE has those extra 30 planes. So I'm wondering if those who are worried about missing out on future features are talking about those 30 planes? As per the Microsoft site:

Because surely any feature updates to the game world will be applied to all editions, as they have in FS20.

The Famous Flyers/Local Legends will get free 2024 upgrades. Buying them again via the Aviators edition won't get them any special other than it being cheaper than buying every single one individually.

That's what I'd like to see confirmation of, because if there's the case what's the point in buying Premium when I can just buy standard and select planes from higher packages?

Somehow I missed it during the interview as my thoughts drifted somewhere else in that particular moment, but listening to the recording back at home, it's clearly there. I’m no business man but I think I might have to give Mr Gates a call to explain the principles of upselling to him, he’s clearly missing a trick.

Still, shouldn’t knock their pragmatic and generous approach, if this turns out to be correct.
