From the screenshots/videos I've seen of the new lighting changes, it seems to suggest there'll be no need for Rex Atmos. Those that have that tool for the current Sim and are flying in this alpha, what are you thoughts on this?

(Bearing in mind it may be different in the release day version of course)

I agree, that crossed my mind too. The sim looks very good out of the box with the new lighting, the weird green tint of 2020 seems to be a thing of the past. Apart from maybe some sharpening, I don't feel the need to use Nvidia filters, Atmos or ARPC anymore.

overall, the scenery is better in most places in 2024. Last night, other people reported in this thread of Los Angeles and Lake Tahoe city had lost the improvements Asobo had done in 2020 version. But I'm finding that most city textures are better in 2024 version, a lot.

That’s the Asobo way unfortunately they roll back subtle improvements they had done the prior. 😞

They do this with the DLSS versions all the time…

I'm not surprised that VRFlightSimGuy's looks amazed. It's not difficult to amaze that guy, LOL!

Looks like people are experimenting with 2020 addons; at launch (at least) I’d like to be able to use scenery addons (mainly airports / cities), can we assume those should all be able to drop right in, or are there likely to be texture incompatibilities etc.?

I'll take someone who's always impressed 1000 times over someone who's always jaded.

Wish I'd done that to test it before I uninstalled it.

Okay, I did a few free flights, taking off and doing few touch-and-go's from Blackbushe to Farnborough and back. Then took off from Farnborough, headed to Heathrow, did a touch-and-go and then headed off to central London. I've now left the preview and uninstalled it. I do have it on pre-order and hope that it's an improvement on 2020, rather than just a re-package with different interface.

What I liked:                 1. Graphics looked very good and FPS were smooth, I didn't go into the options and change anything, and I don't use DLSS or FG (mods), just standard settings.
                    2. Quick loading times, hopefully the addons that I use in the Community Folder won't affect that like it does with 2020.

What I didn't like:             1. Trying to set up a joystick as a controller, wasn't straight forward. Would have preferred the joystick to work straight after installation. I'd like to think that control devices that have been around for sometime would work straight out of the box.

                    2. The odd micro stutter every 30 seconds or so, probably due to scenery loading, which I don't generally get with 2020.

What I really didn't like:         1. Scenery (building's and tree's) fading in and out as I'm flying. Happened numerous times flying from Farnborough, to Heathrow and then on to central London.

PC: 7800X3D, 64 GB Ram, RTX3090. Network 1.1Gbps direct ethernet connection.

Am I correct in assuming when the product is released on Steam I will lose all my current career progress?
