Support via Discord

Featured Replies

#Rant on

I just have to say and this may be me becoming a Curmudgeonly old man but all of these companies moving their primary manner of support to Discord is incredibly frustrating.  I don't like the format, I don't like the constant "chatter" or having to scour through  25 channels on one server, trying to remember which section the post I was interested in was in the mess of messages and having to install an incredibly obtrusive app to get the native Discord experience.

Personally, it is just really frustrating for me.  Call me crazy but I liked forums...  I know some developers talk about how they can respond quicker but how is it quicker to respond to a message in Discord than simply respond to a message on an official support forum?

I understand it is the time they are a changing but for me I VASTLY prefer the good old forum and ticket system for support opposed to Discord.

I agree with you. There's something worse: having an actual ticket system in which the developers ask you then to post at Discord. Already happened to me twice🤦🏻‍♂️

For making things worse, said developer is one of the few that enabled a forum-like layout on their Discord.

You're not alone Paul, I voiced the same opinion over and over again, but it seems that most people don't mind the total chaos of this horrible "system" and get used to it. Like you, a good forum and support tickets cannot be replaced.

Sign with my both hands under opinion about Discord support

Artur

I love discord, but then I loved IRC back in the 1990s along with MySpace!

I do agree that companies moving all manner of support solely to Discord isn't a good idea, they should still use email primarily alongside a support forum as a secondary option.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Discord layout, but I much prefer having everything in one place than having to create 15 different accounts in 15 different forums.

Fair play, I hadn't thought about that aspect.  That is definitely a pro.  One sign in and one spot to go to for multiple devs.

Good point @outermarker I hadn't thought about that at all.

Discord is a royal PITA, but unfortunately in some cases we are forced to use it to get our (paid) apps updated/repaired

Kind regards,

The disadvantage of Discord is that all ramblings are in one place. It is impossible to follow a specific discussion, and especially for support questions that seems to me very unfriendly to customers.

It's like going to a police station and shouting in the hall that your bike is stolen, hoping that among all those ruffians there is also a friendly officer who hears your call for help.
I'd rather go to an oldfashioned police station where you get a separate room where a kind officer is listening to your story and taking notes.

I can't stand it too - disorganised, hard to find anything useful.

Really can't understand why it is so popular.

Well yes but...every different dev has its own discord server which you DO need to logon to with a token so in no time you have 20 servers going on with notification nightmare syndrome.

The one logon is just the one logon to Discord itself every other support area requires an additional connection.

Does anyone remember TapaTalk? It enabled you to have multiple forum chats going on with a single interface.

This.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
