Still haven't been able to even start downloading. The launch issues, dev issues, and in-game bugs are unfortunate because, based on the Tech Alpha, there is great potential for 2024. I do agree, however, that moving so much to the cloud causes more problems than it solves. Obviously, it is not feasible to have worldwide scenery locally, but most other things you can. There were already issues in 2020, let alone with the increased demand in 2024. I think it would have been better to keep core content local, but instead of installing everything and then having the option to remove it via the content manager, it should ask at initial launch which packages you want (similar to when you install Visual Studio or MATLAB). This would both allow users to only install what they want and reduce server load as people opt-out of downloadable content. Or, for a hybrid approach, they should ask at initial launch (not after!) what packages you want, and whether or not you want them stored locally or cached from the cloud. To end on a positive note, I certainly do not think this will kill MSFS. Eventually, we will all be enjoying it with our favorite third-party content.

Of course it's not feasible. It was strained in the cloud in 2020 and yet they decide, I know, lets move IT ALL to the cloud, what could go wrong?

The last few years have been a disaster for gaming. The majority of first rate titles are failing badly.

2. Performance/Visuals: With performance and visual co-enhancements a key selling point for 2024 pre-release, I was eager to test this for myself. It was challenging to get a true sense of the visuals as most of the places I flew in 2020 featured high-quality add-on scenery. However, the default photogrammetry I noticed in 2024 is nearly identical to the default in 2020, at least where I flew. I did not see any significant change in performance, increase or decrease, from 2020 to 2024. This was also a major disappointment as this was one of the key differences we were told to expect from the new simulator.
3. Controls/Bindings: You must manually re-map any control bindings from 2020 to your new simulator. This includes even the mouse, if used. Many users have noted issues mapping their controllers and I share the same issue. I am unable to even map my free-look controls to my mouse without the character literally spinning out of control the second I touch my mouse. I use a TM TCA as my control hardware and I have only been able to map 50% of the bindings.
Overall, this is far from MSFS’s finest moment. After an hour of “flying” I have yet to take any aircraft from cold and dark to flight and back. The product in its current state needs to be more refined for an enjoyable experience. Most notably, the lack of previously purchased aircraft/scenery, lack of significant performance improvements, and complete inability to map basic camera/aircraft controls greatly dull the experience. I hope the MSFS team can sort out these launch-day issues quickly to enjoy the simulator we have been eagerly awaiting. As for me, I will be going back to 2020 until these growing pains get sorted out. I am optimistic that given 2020’s success, MSFS 2024 will soon be an enjoyable experience for us all and truly an upgrade over the outgoing version.
If you are currently frustrated or stuck in the loading queue, I am sorry to say that the simulator on the other side is likely not the MSFS you are anticipating, at least for now. You might have better luck holding off for a bit."

 

 

Bobsk8, on a different thread (1st Flight, 1st impression), Ident describes a different, much more positive experience than the one above. Like you, I will wait awhile before jumping in, but based on what Ident says, I think that after the current (predictable) chaos is over we will end up in a much better place. Time will tell.

Don't mind being a guinea pig to test the ability of MS to deliver the goods. In fact, retreating to my safe space 2020 achieves the opposite of what we want to do. We want to test the system so that MS/Asobo get their bloody act together going forward.  And so far it's failed but I'll keep persisting and hopefully someone 'over there' can learn from the obvious failures for most.

as mentioned before, they had problems at peak times at the weekends over the summer with disconnects, they didnt invest in the servers, the problems never went away,and now the servers fall over with a new release.  It was obvious it was going to happen

I see same issues as 2020 has with water margins and the glowing silhouette's, misty cloud cover looks weird.... most streamers are still stuck loading though... 

Reset the calendar on the main page to May 19. The colors and clouds will be glorious!

The infrastructure wasn’t ready. Bean counters pushed it out. Not Asobos fault.
