And you? Do you have some stick time?

Barely 900 hours in light GA, I'm a newbie.

Though as Im not even making any claims about knowledge of  flight dynamics authenticity, I have to wonder why you ask?

As a GA flyer, I uninstalled 2020 and haven't gone back.  Why? -Better graphics and scenery.  2020 absolutely blew me away with being able to actually fly VFR instead of having some vague landcla

Why did I ask? You quoted someone stating 'I don't fly ILR', upon which you answered 'Thought not'. That comes across as denigrating, to me at least, because you seem to disqualify his opinion. I assumed you had some expert opinion hidden somewhere, that's why I asked if you had any 'stick time'. You say you have.

And that is true as well, you didn't. Making claims about flight dynamics authenticity, from sitting behind a PC screen at home, is doubtful to say the least, no matter the amount of real life experience. I realize that every time I state MSFS 2024 is better than another sim. I'm still convinced though, MSFS 2024 is on the right track. It kind of feels right, like I've never experienced before with any other flight sim.

Hello, Flight dynamics improvements to realism are about the only area that would tempt me in to getting 2024 but its hard to judge when people just say its better with no real backing.

Could you explain the areas you see it being more aligned with the real aircraft you fly including what those aircraft are?

Thanks.

Do yourself (and the rest of us) a favor: spend $1 on the 30-day Game Pass trial and try v2024 for yourself.

The across-the-board handling improvements are readily apparent for anyone who flies IRL or is very familiar with Hi Fi flight models in the various available Hi Fi flight sims.

As various folks have said over and over - the fidelity of the experience depends significantly on what your simulation goals are. Anyone who thinks v2024 and it's addons are all "the best" in terms of realism have really drunk the Kool Aid. Several arguably are, many are great, and the majority are on the spectrum from Okay to Trash.

If you want as close to 1:1 for IRL training, you really have to search for the highest fidelity aircraft addon no matter in which sim it runs. And even then, many times you have to decide whether your priority is systems fidelity or flight model as it's rare to get "Study Level" for both in one addon.

Or you find the closest high fidelity addon that runs in your sim of choice and make do with the inevitable tradeoffs.

And yeah, I'm an IRL pilot in a "lowly" Piper Arrow to which I occasionally have access. Is v2024 some hallucinogenically fantastic flight sim that makes it "just like IRL"? Nope - only IRL is just like IRL.

Good to hear rl pilots say this. Something about the weight and the airflow sounds on the frame (with the smaller planes) just feels so right, even as someone who's never flown a plane. I know IL2 Andrey is supposed to be working on helicopters, but I have to wonder if he's had some input in this are as well, as it really reminds me of IL2 planes' feel.

I agree, I find it very hard to believe that any flight planner designed by Asobo, will be any where as good as Simbrief.

I take it you've extensively compared the two?

You can actually use them both together, even if you don't have a subscription to Navigraph.

It comes with free Lido charts (the limitations in terms of airports covered have been discussed extensively).

The flight planner was designed by Asobo? This is news to me!

The flight planner has received several updates since its release.

The "send to avionics" function in the defauls EFB works very well.

It's the first iteration, so obviouly it won't have the same functionality compared to a flight planner that has been around for years.

But you wouldn't know all this because your comment is just some random drive by comment designed to "stir the pot". 🤣

I'm having a blissful flight along the Dutch coast this morning, everything looks quite nice in the morning light.

Used 2020 once since November but that was by accident when I clicked the wrong icon. It still launches though..

I don't know if they've done something server side, but the clouds have been phenomenal in Germany / Italy today.

Early bird gets the worm! I think it's related to less people connected at this time of the day. Either that, or Seb flipped the server switch back to MSFS2024 😅

Last evening I was flying from NY to Boston and got a lot of stutters, even over less populated areas. Today over Netherlands and Germany, I can run with much higher TLODs (even over PG-cities like Amsterdam), almost stutter-free.

Haha, I just buzzed the tower at Maastricht-Aachen, Maverick style. Very poor visibility so wanted to get close to the ground to somehow stay in VMC.

This is my experience, too. Since I often get the dreaded bandwidth warning in Germany in the afternoon and evening, I usually switch to a US VPN. And if there is evening in the US I even switch to a Japanese VPN. That always works almost perfectly, so I really think that receiving the data from a world region where the flightsimmers are at work or sleeping works best, even if the VPN has a much slower Ping. 🙂

That's interesting - I've been experimenting with different VPN servers as well. Never tried Japan though. It does make sense - I'll give it a try.

I think there were server issues on both sims yesterday. Even in 2020 checking for updates took a couple of minutes which was abnormal and while I was doing a quick 12hr 5 minute short hop I actually thought about shutting the sim down at one point it was so bad but by the time I landed it was 8p EST so I'd imagine most EU simmers were offline already and performance was spectacular again.  I don't know if it was purely load or they changed something.

Similarly, lately I've noticed that if I do a long haul and start around 6am my EST when most of EU is "working" the take off's are spectacular and subsequently landing at 6pm est when West Coast is still at work and it is getting late in the EU provides the best sim experience...

It's similar to what @crimplene was describing where performance almost follows the load by time zone "sometimes" LOL...  It was so bad at one point yesterday all my "fauna" turned to melted pointed hills and subsequently resolved without issue.

I have not having good luck with free-flight airliner flights in 2024, so I have been enjoying the career grind.   One thing that I feel 2024 "got right", is the landing gear sounds the Vision Jet makes.  I have a couple of Dayton bass shakers mounted on my dxracer chair, and the 'thud' vibrations the gear makes going up and down, always puts a smile on my face!

Interesting that Microsoft now owns 2 of the best-selling Flight Sims.

Beside that, the walk around feature allows me to explore (yea I know I could use the drone)  my cool airports.  Great for that immersion aspect.
