Attacks on BATC...Are they warranted?

@ConstVoid, your name rings a bell and I’m sorry you couldn’t find a way to get it working.

This is my final comment in this and the other BATC topic because a couple of people took exception to me mentioning P3D. It’s somewhat difficult when you’re trying to find out how something works and you make a comparison to another sim.

And for their info I didn’t handle those reports. Another moderator decided they didn’t meet the level required.

  • Seems to me like this is orchestrated. Two threads were started by two who hardly ever post on this forum, on the same day.  Very strange.

No you just chose not to read the description.

  • It is odd indeed.  I use BATC every flight and while every once in a while it does something that annoys me, it’s generally so much better than any ATC experience I’ve had in any flight sim and it get

I purchased the experimental branch for $60

What does the experimental branch offer over the basic if you will?

The experimental branch not only helps support the devs, but allows those that pay the extra $30 to try new features first which also helps the devs find any issues before being ported to the early access branch. For instance one thing I can think of currently is CPDLC which is available only on the experimental branch. Hopefully VFR will be next major feature to be checked out!

Previously things like AI traffic and GSX integration were available to experimental branch a lot earlier.

Very happy to be supporting the BATC development team.

System 2: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D @ 5.7GHz, 2 x 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 RAM, ASUS ROG ASTRAL RTX5090 OC, 2 x 4TB Lexar NM790 M.2 PCIe 4.0, Crucial T705 2TB Gen5 M.2, Samsung 840 Pro SSD 1TB, Moza AB9 with Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Flight Stick, Winwing Orion Rudder Pedals, Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Throttle Quadrant.

I really do Like BATC too. Alone the interaction with AI Traffic makes it worth supporting it vor me. Only downside at the Moment is that on Long flights and a lot of traffic it is crashing the sim in the third Stage of flight… on SU4

It does struggle with vectoring well, as many have noted. I have had it work basically well in some cases but many times it leaves me too high or gives instructions too late. That said I use it for the chatter and I like the initial clearance, pushback and taxi interactions. But most of the time I just imagine the interactions with ATC on approach. It has been in early access now for a very long time without a lot of progress on the vectoring issues, at least from my experience with it. That said it is pretty much what I expected so I do not feel a need to be overly critical, it does some things I like and I use it from time to time when I want those things. I would give it "mixed reviews" but I think I would do the same for the other options out there.

Wholeheartedly agree, clearly needs some time in the oven but I can't deny flying into an airport, seeing aircraft waiting for me to land, other aircraft taxiing and a multitude of aircraft parked. Really brings life to an otherwise empty airport. Is it accurate, no but I don't fly without it at this point (when I'm not in a vatsim event).

To me it sometimes seems worse than original vectoring in 2020, and that is saying something.  A couple days ago I attempted PAJN > PANC in the IFly 737 Max 8.  After the usual 20 minute+ pre-flight, took off only to have BATC tell me to start my descent, shortly after reaching FL180 feet, and we're still 500 mi out from PANC.  So after two attempts at this thought I would revisit OEM ATC and traffic.  It wasn't half bad and was far better that BATC on this bizarre simple route!   I remember the herringbone zig zag in OEM ATC and it looks like BATC uses 70 degree changes on this, whereas OEM maybe half that.  Even OEM would tell you to hurry up and start descending when you didn't, whereas BATC doesn't seem to have a clue where you are.   As you say leaves us too high, too late.

I guess I had better try using its traffic injection again.  What levels do you keep sliders at?

I have been using default ATC the past week and it's much better than it used to be. I'm OK just leaving it on default now. Still does weird stuff, but somehow less than BATC.

Do you also use default traffic?  I tried that and just saw fake liveries...

Yes, you are correct, I mentioned instructions too late but it also regularly gives them too early.

Thank you for this, I am going to go back and try it on my next flight.

Yes, default traffic, but I have the FsTraffic models installed (you can also install FSLTL and AIG), and most of the time it picks the right livery. I'm OK with 3/10 planes with fictional liveries, as long as 70-80% are real.

Well that sounds a little like what I do in BATC:  I used FSLTL's injector/models, and don't use BATC's traffic.  Because of that there is no comms between AI traffic and BATC's ATC.  Is that what is happening for you?  If not, how do you config 2024 to be able to use those 3rd party models?

Thanks, but it was a bomb once again, for me.  I really detest the animation quality or lack thereof in BATC's traffic.  I was so hoping it had improved but it hasn't.   I know many others don't see this but I sure do and others do as well.  I've tried to figure out why to no avail.

If it is anything like the default AI animation, then I can understand your frustration.
