I know you don't want to hear this. But Beta ...

But to help you

If you have the following please remove them. (PMDG 777, AIG models, Navigraph latest airac, Freestyle Filters). Those have been causing issues.

I've heard it. This is the first time in beta where I haven't been able to get it going with my community folder intact. But I'll try those suggestions thanks.

This thread is about SU3 not SU2

  • Software Development is oftent multi streamed. This SU3 has probably been in the wings for a few weeks now.  My take, -B

Appears some work was done but for my specs with everything at stock ultra with AI traffic turned of and building textures on high i will still bust through the VRAM at startup in a light aircraft at a large airport in a large metropolis like KLAX or KSFO. I will get the GPU resources warning then it will settle down a touch and release some VRAM. Framerates hold up for the most part though.

For me, there are no VRAM issues at all. Neither in SU2 nor SU3. 3080Ti with 12GB VRAM. I run at 1080p with all graphics settings on High, except clouds which are at Ultra. TLOD/OLOD both 150. I am using the latest 576.40 drivers.

The most VRAM used is 65-70 percent per the Game Bar performance app. In the past few days I have flown into KLAX, KSFO and KJFK using the PMDG 777-200ER, IniBuilds A321N and Aerosoft CRJ. (Have not tried the 777 in SU3 because I have heard it CTDs on load.

These are the default versions of the above airports.

I do not use VR nor AI traffic, but I do often fly on VATSIM which is set to use FSLTL for model matching. (I have the reduced texture size version of FSLTL installed). At KLAX yesterday afternoon there were 9 VATSIM users on the ground or landing or taking off. All were visible, none seemed to affect VRAM.

Heavy Live Weather cloud overcast will drive my GPU load to 100 percent while flying through them, but it reduces when climbing above the clouds.

VRAM consumption is highest on the ground at complex airports, but it reduces once in the air, so MSFS does seem to be dynamically managing VRAM.

AIG models

AIG models aren't causing crashes, it's the number of simobjects spawned by the AI programs.

And I figured out why the FlyTampa CYYZ was crashing, it isn't the fault of the scenery, I'm assuming it was all the GSX SimObjects spawned by the airport profile, because as soon as I removed the profile, it stopped crashing.

Glad its working for you. However i dont run my sim at 1080p resolution. Higher resolution = more VRAM required.

Re AIG. the intent of listing AIG is to ensure the user i was assisting did not turn it on and then have his sim crash because AIG spawned too many sim objects (as you put it). I don't think it matters much in the grand scheme of things if the user has a crash and turns off aig and finds his/her sim now running properly vs trying to find out that AIGis loading too many sim objects for SU3.

But thank you for trying to be specific.

Question: can you download all the controller settings in the beta? Because I get frustrated with clicking on a device and having these long pauses each time. Would be nice if it was stored locally.

I run 4k with a 4090 and I see 19GB usage at EGLL (Gaya) in the Fenix with default air traffic. This might be a worse case bench mark?

I'm lucky enough to have 24GB of VRAM but even then, I'm one of the unlucky ones suffering the dreaded frame rate drop on landing and terrible panning stutters.

Seen this issue through the SU2 beta and release and it's still there so far in the SU3 beta.

You’re running at 1080p. If I ran at 1080p I wouldn’t have any VRAM issues either…

But like many these days, I run at 4k. Even when I drop to to 2k, my 4080 can barely keep up.

Your system should do better than that - install AutoFPS.

I did run at 4K for quite some time. Typical VRAM consumption was higher of course, but never once exceeded 11 GB of the 12 GB available. The main reason I switched from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080 was to reduce GPU load and accompanying high GPU temps. At full 4K, the GPU was running at 100 percent almost all of the time.

Surely one would want the GPU to output its max potential?

No thanks, I prefer to have my GPU locked at 60FPS with 40% usage , low temps and 110W consumption than at 120FPS with 99% usage, high temps and 240W consumption. My room is already hot enough and my electricity bill is already high enough.

YMMV though.

My inibuilds A350 CTD when fiddling with the navdata... do i just rollback the AIRAC cycle to prevent the CTD?
