I am here to hold Devs accountable

You are holding them accountable for a product (MSFS 2024) that you don't own. Okay.

    Bark bark bark...

  • People like that tend to do more harm than good. I've been gaming since the late 80's and I have seen companies leave their genre when criticisms got too much or went over the top. I am a former field

Re MS not going to Expo. I am curious how people who are upset they aren't going, would react if they were going? I imagine we'd hear "why aren't they focusing on the issues?" I am also curious how many people upset they aren't going to Expo are even going to Expo.

I am going to Expo. I am not upset at all MS isn't going there. I dunno what I'd say that I'd get a non-canned response to. "Why does my sim stutter only on landings" and get a "We are aware of the VRAM issues and working on it". Even if they aren't.

Last year they did Expo as part of their big marketing push and it made sense for them to have a presence*. Especially with corporate budgets being what they are (and MS just laid off 3% of staff). Marketing budgets are the first to get the whack. But they don't have anything new to promote. Expo is also a small show. Last year 2440 people attended. I live in the area of this year's expo and my local gaming convention draws more.  They also didn't attend FSWeekend (5000 people attended), and they also said they are skipping Oshkosh this year. I feel budgets are winning more than hiding.

Sure, Jorg could get up and do a heartfelt "this is what went wrong" presentation. But right now, I'd much rather they not have the disruption of Expo prep and instead focus on getting SU3 out the door, and working on making the sim actually work.

In terms of feedback, they get tons of that. The forums,  the chat on the livestream are full of sharp criticism.

*In hindsight, it's very telling not a single computer at their booth was running FS24.

FSExpo is smaller than FSWeekend at Lelystad??

Yes. Published attendance at FSExpo 24 was 2440, with 319 online regs. Published attendance at FSWeekend was ~5000.

At any rate, they are both small shows by typical show standards.

I agree that the marketing budget is likely not there, but I also take him at his word that they are, appropriately, focused on overseeing the work that needs to be done;; and those two may be related. Sim Update 1 and 2 did not correct everything but they were significant updates and they have already launched the beta for Update 3.

To be honest, watching the dev stream I had the impression they did not have the same energy or excitement they had a year ago.

I wonder what the attendance figures were for the 2019 Cosford Flightsim Show in the UK (which was the only one spread across the weekend)....

FS2024 will remain complex until the end. It is certainly the last version with a long extension.

Most of you already know, to skip forward 10 seconds forward or backward in the twitch stream, use the arrow keys.

I can't find mention of the Dakota anywhere? When in the stream do they actually talk about it?

People like that tend to do more harm than good. I've been gaming since the late 80's and I have seen companies leave their genre when criticisms got too much or went over the top. I am a former field technician for two major computer companies, starting out in the 80's.

One thing I learned working with MS-DOS, Windows, Unix, Linux and other operating systems is that there isn't a software program and game that is perfect. You can find fault along with bugs and errors. Software today is SO complicated that many companies are turning to AI to write code and look for problems.

I remember playing MSFS 4.0 in the early 90's and each subsequent followup. I am still amazed and floored by what we have today. Each time I play either MSFS 2020 or 2024, all I can do is say WOW, and think back to the days of MSFS 4.0

What people fail to realize or dismiss is that Asobo had no background in flight simulation. There foray was in action and adventure games. Up until MSFS 2020, it was Bruce Artwick's project along with his team who were bought out by Microsoft when Bruce was head of SubLogic. It is very impressive what Asobo has been able to pull off. Their flight sim has run better than any Bruce Artwick flight sim I can recall. I remember throwing the best hardware from Gateway 2000 at MSFS 5.0 and it struggled to run it. Now with average hardware, MSFS 2020/2024 looks great and runs very well.

Right around minute 54.... Asobo packages in the marketplace used to arrive later than those sold elsewhere because Asobo tested them all. It sounded like Jorg said this testing will no longer be done, which will speed up the marketplace, for instance in updates to packages sold. IOW, the testing will all be done by the developers.

This should be popular. Personally I didn't mind the wait, and appreciate the extra testing done in house by Asobo. But not many folks agreed with me.

The Piper PA-28 Dakota will be nice to pilot!

I agree...the dakota irl is a great plane - it's a true 4 seater plus tanks kinda plane.  Like an Archer on steroids hehe.

Hopefully it has a basic AP though for longer flights.

It gives me Dreamfleet 2000 vibes 🙂

Have you flown it Ryan? I have not. I was only fortunate to fly Cherokee 6 and Lance
