TFDI MD-11 updated

What am I getting with the Extended Simulation package exactly, that I would miss during normal ops?

From what I understand - Full failures and ground maintenance support as well as you can set the aircraft operational state from "Brand New" to "heavily used or worn condition" which then has operational impacts that you will need to consider. Circuit breaker panels have been simulated too - I don't know if base package includes CB as default however.

I have it myself and have set all my aircraft to average condition which given the aircraft age IRL makes it reasonable choice.

$5 USD, the price of an actual cup of coffee at Starbucks in the US. Good on TFDI for a reasonable upgrade fee to MSFS 2024.

  • Hi all, we're happy to announce that the long-awaited Art, FS2024, and Extended Sim update for the MD-11 will release on 12JAN26 at 1600 GMT. We'll be here in Discord to chat and address anything

Well, $5 here is closer to the price of two coffees😝 After that, only three planes left before I can remove MSFS2020, but all of them are default.

That is an interesting feature. I assume that this changes the look of the aircraft externally, but does it also affect the VC?

I don't think it affects anything visually although the cockpit has been upgraded with better textures - it is rather more to do with state of aircraft systems and how it responds if they are heavily used/worn, for instance things like engine oil, hydraulics fluid or condition of Landing gear. Etc

The way I see it - on every flight now I have to review the ground maintenance/aircraft condition before flying which is very cool and immersive, just as you would IRL prior to every flight.

Wasn't aware this update was out, but noticed it on Simmarket so logged in to TFDi and splashed out my 3.72 GBP for the update.

Absolutely fantastic! As usual I don't care about anything cockpit/flight related, but this is one of the best looking aircraft models I've seen. And it flies and behaves perfectly fine for my needs. Very, very happy with it.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I finally got the plane. I feel it handflies a lot better than what I used to have in MSFS2020 and P3Dv5, and well, it looks a lot better. There are, unfortunately 3 things I didn't like:

1) I can't still hide the yoke. Some of my FS9 planes have that function. I hope to be wrong, but if not... c'mon TFDi, you can do better! EDIT: apparently there is the option, but I can't find it.

2) I still can't remove fuel mid-flight (for skipping cruise). But now I find fuel dump rate is slower than before, so I couldn't get to the gross weight I wanted on time for approach.

3) The most important one for me: as expected with all native MSFS2024 models, all the repaints I have for 2020 were rendered useless. Also, texture filenames and file structure changed between versions, so I can't simply convert the repaints I have from DDS to KTX2 (as I did with the PMDG 777 or the JF Avro RJ).

Where?

Hide the yolk - clip spot just below the label, across the base of the yoke handles.

MSFS2024 liveries: 42 are available at the TFDi web site,. Login, go to Customer, drop down/Liveries. MSFS 2024. I had to use 7 Zip to unzip them. Also, when unzipped, click on the file name, it should come up with the same file name. Copy the 2nd one to your C\Users|etc Community24 folder. It works but is a bit messy.

Beautiful Aircraft as it was before and now after the update even better !

The feeling of flying a heavy AC is just superb on this aircraft..

( speaking for MSFS2020 )

cheers 😉

A scrambled egg without yolk is just beaten egg whites.

They're not any information at the web site about virtual reality support at the present time.... unfortunately.

I fly in VR just fine haven't had an issue.

As a side note, I don't really understand this request, I fly loads of planes in VR and the all work just fine. Though for context I use my mouse, not the touch controllers, that ironically felt less natural for me

The only kind of incopatibility that one comes across at times in VR that in some aircraft the hovering control pointer does not line up with the clickspots so that you have problems interacting with the aircraft.

Personally I just chalked it up the MSFS‘a crappy VR user experience. I deal with it but wouldn’t call it incompatible. MSFS in general needs to rework its VR UX.

This is a genuine question and not intended to be condescending in any way ->  I read with interest how you said you tend to use the sim - no technical aspects, etc, mostly for visual use.  How would you use a plane like this?  (I'm only asking because it's so systems-focussed).  Would you do an autostart and just handfly at low altitudes?   If I'm being too nosy just tell me to flip off!

Fly it in NAV+PROF.

Important: fill in the "min prof altitude" in the STAR page (where you Select the RNAV approach), this is the charted MDA value
