MSFS 2024 performance

Featured Replies

I have been checking out the prices of PCs recently, and also thinking about what system would be good enough if I decide to switch to MSFS 2024 at the same time. My use case would still be 1080p resolution on a 24" monitor. I am not going to be spending ridiculous amounts of money on the top end graphics cards, so I have been thinking about an i7 14700KF/16GB RTX 5060Ti combo. Would this be sufficient to run MSFS 2024 at decent detail levels? A system like this would be significantly more powerful than the i5 7600K/6GB GTX 980Ti powered PC that I am currently using, and that 16GB VRAM should provide me with comfortable headroom @ 1080p resolution. However, I would be interested to know what you guys think about it.

There are still certain features/issues regarding MSFS 2024 that I would like to see sorted out, but I just want to prepare myself if/when the day arrives

Logically I'd go with @St Mawgan.  If AMD IS the cause, then those with non AMD systems wouldn't experience the issue.  I do not know enough about the issue to sway what the cause is, but it stan

  • That should be more than enough to run MSFS 2024 at high to ultra settings 👍

  • Outside my budget when I was young, TRS-80 Color computer 32KB with upgraded “bubble RAM” for 64KB. My first Intel based PC I could afford was Packard Bell 386SX … for work I had a Compaq 286 wit

That should be more than enough to run MSFS 2024 at high to ultra settings 👍

Agree, this will provide you plenty of power for FullHD only. I would seriously consider a bigger screen with maybe 1440p. You will never go back. And sometimes, going for a new and bigger monitor is the better upgrade providing more joy than better hardware. Of course, with your current hardware, replacing this is the first step to do

Does it have to be Intel?

IMO you can't get much better than an X3D AMD chip - 9800 or 7800 which aren't as expensive now. They draw less power and run cooler too so potential savings on your PSU and cooler options.

More than enough but yes, I will be going AMD next build.

Agree with this very much. The system you propose would run a 32" 1440p screen very nicely indeed.

I second this Chris, I've gone with a 9800X3D and it's great.  Hold your nose and click on a 5090 too mate 😁

I run a 7800X3D with 64GB ram and a 4070ti Super.  Super smooth in 4K with complex payware aircraft and scenery.  Love 2024.

No chance! I have no doubt that a 9800X3D/RTX 5090 combo is like having Skynet as a bestie, but it is way beyond what I am prepared to pay

Not for everyone.

These chips are causing many problems with MSFS2024, such as sound stuttering and other issues.

Intel, even with potentially lower performance, might be the better choice. I had a 9800X3D and a 9950X3D, and both had the same problem. I switched back to the Core 9 Ultra, and the issues disappeared completely.

Just check the MSFS forum—it's full of reports about this problem. Sure, AMD chips work well on some systems, but on many others, they don’t. So AMD isn't always the right pick.

And nothing is more frustrating than having a water-cooled RTX 5090 and hearing sound crackling. It was driving me crazy.

Interesting, how did you identify the audio problems being caused by the CPU rather than the motherboard or RAM?

FS2024 • PMDG 738, 77F • FSL A321 • A2A Comanche, Aerostar • BS Baron, Bonanza, Caravan Pro • JF Tomahawk • TAOG H500C
BeyondATC • GSX Pro • ChasePlane & Flow Pro • TDS GTNXi • FSUIPC • AutoFPS • RealTurb

9800X3D B650E • ROG OC RTX 5090 • 64GB DDR5-6000 • VKB Gladiator, STECS, T-Rudder • Tobii 5 • ISP 1 Gbps

It all runs pretty well.  I don't ever hit max VRAM and use FG FSR with DLSS Quality Setting.

Because I changed everything. I had a X870E Hero, X670E Extreme, and a MSI ITX X870E. Tried different RAM kits and so on. I deleted the rolling cache, bought an extra 4TB M.2 drive extra and only for the rolling cache, and much more. I really tried every single "solution," but nothing worked.

I had the Core 9 Ultra before, but I was a bit unhappy with the general performance (bought it at release). I had no issues with sound stuttering then. But when I switched to the 9800X3D, the stuttering began. I hoped the 9950X3D would fix it, but nope. So I went back to Intel with some nice CUDIMMs, delidded it, and now the performance is great; and the stutters are gone again.

So for me personally, and for many others, the problem seems to be AMD.
