What is still lacking for you in FS2024 since SU3?

I wish the PAPI's were properly aligned, some airports are way out.

Interesting … I thought it was just me getting it wrong.  Do you have any specific airports that are obviously way out so I can confirm what I’ve experienced in others?  Are the default airports or 3rd party?

1. fully functional weather radar

2. realistic turbulence (cat, clouds, thermals, terrain)

3. realistic icing (ground, air, airframe, engines, cold soak)

4. lighting in cloudy/foggy conditions during daytime (als, runways, taxiways, aprons, buildings, roads, headlights, cities)

5. shared cockpit

6. better cpu performance

7. overhauled control presets

8. birds (I still don’t understand why the flightsim includes deer and elephants, but not birds that are related to aviation)

9. hf, satcom

10. on screen taxi camera, cabin camera (sdk for devs)

So basically everything that is in P3D + add-on going back a decade 🙂 … I thought MSFS 2024 had shared cockpit?  Not sure what you mean by better CPU performance … better threading?

Yeah, it would be nice to have all that in MSFS 2024.

I'm not interested in flying with an X-box controller, but if that's your thing that's fine.

The rest of your post makes complete sense, but this part might just be you being unaware that you do not, in fact, need to use MSFS 2024 (or 2020), with an Xbox Controller. You can use all the hardware and controllers that any other sim can use.

The rest (weather, realism, features you want as a real-world pilot), sure.. all that is an individual choice and you know what's best for you. But you can use MSFS with any and all controllers, just like you can actually fly in P3D with an Xbox controller.

Yep - all assists off. 👍

I'm having a new computer built with all the latest hardware, mainly to take advantage of the new sim platforms, although I'm starting to have some doubts. I'm a real-world pilot and flew for a major airline for 25 years, so realism is the top priority for me. I'm not interested in flying with an X-box controller, but if that's your thing that's fine. Say what you will about P3D, but for real world airline type flying, it's realistic and also very stable. Sure, it doesn't have all the eye candy that MSFS has, but as so many of you have pointed out, no sim is perfect. The downside of P3D is the fact that it's been abandoned by scenery and aircraft developers. You gotta go where the money is, I guess. Happy Flying everybody.

I still fly in P3D once in awhile. But tbh it’s only because just a small handful of Hi Fi addons there don’t have equivalents in the other sims (and that list is rapidly dwindling)

so unfortunately, P3D has sadly been relegated to being pretty much just a T-38C simulator for me, with an occasional hop in the A2A Civ Mustang and Super Hornet

for anything where a Hi Fi addon is available, MSFS has P3D beat by quite a bit in the realistic simulation department.

Yeppers!

And what's this about better threading or perf?  (I know, not you Rob, but the person you were responding to)  '24 is quite a bit better threaded than 2020 was, we know this by boringly watching cores and also by the fact that '24 performs better on higher core non-X3D processors than 2020 did.  So if you have a Threadripper rejoice!  Nah, just kidding.

Funny you should mention AMD Threadripper 9975WX … a workstation build I’m in process of working on (not intended for Flight Simulation but I will try it of course):

I’m planning to start another thread on this build in the hardware section, highlight some of the build nuances and planning it took (with intent to encourage others to do custom PC builds) … I’m always learning something new with each build.

I’d love to see if MSFS 2024 can actually take advantage of 32/64 cores and 256GB RAM and two 5090s.

Wish we had a proper flyby, tower and replay view like in the other sim that I will not mention. Heck even the old ESP sims offered this. That is all.

Judging by the message stream over on Hangar Chat, there should be the occasional UFO seen in the sky and perhaps even a possibly alien craft landing very occasionally.
