It all depends on the data they can easily  get and if there is no data, there is a long process on MS hiring their own aerial survey teams to do the work and thats if they can get the permission from the governments of said countries.

We can even start with only updated mesh...

  • They knocked it out of the park with this update. I’m thankful they continue to invest resources in updating the planet’s digital twin. But candidly, the lack of gratitude and grousing from the flight

  • Thanks MS/Asobo for yet another free update, unrequested, just a gift I did nothing to deserve.  Cheers and thanks, keep up the awesome work!

I don't get it...

Yeah as much as I love flying over Japan and will no doubt get a lot from this update, there is soooooo much more of the world that needs to be updated properly.

Maybe because World Update Laos or World Update Equatorial Guinea doesn't sound very appealing. Greece could work. Greece and Turkey together would be better. Personally I think India is way overdue, but I suppose they have to go where the best available data is.

Greece and Turkey are a perfect example of the difficulties. Both governments are notoriously protective about aerial data. Only recently Greece has let up a bit and one can now see airports unblurred on Google Maps.

Although I have more reason than most to look forward to more Japan data, I have to agree that other parts of the world should be prioritized now. Completing the Mediterranean set with Greece and Turkey would be ideal, but as you say, governments being what they sometimes are, hat may be a challenge. I’m old enough to remember the Greek government imprisoning Arma 3 devs for getting a bit too familiar with the topography of one of their islands, so…

And a whole load of my associates being temporarily imprisoned for 'spying' at a Greek airbase, even though they went through all the official channels and had a permission letter from the Airbase Commander to be there.  That was a disgrace.

Let out and cleared eventually when their lawyer proved to the judge that similar pictures were freely available in aircraft magazines.  Madness at the time.  I am shocked we even have a rendition of Skiathos in MSFS, but different times now hopefully.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Whatever you say my man... you do aware that even the first Japan WU was still called an UPDATE.

You do realize Japan existed BEFORE MSFS 2020/2024?

Yeah according to Jorg, Türkiye has their own photogrammetry data, but the Government doesn't want it hosted on severs outside of the country. So he wants to see if Microsoft can get server space in Türkiye and if that will be satisfactory for the government.

I don't get it...

It depends on popularity, how easy it is to get data for the country, and if the governments of the countries are cooperative.

Like I doubt we'll ever see a China world update, or South Korea.

I fear for any Samscene scenery in the area......

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Any word from Samscene about their sceneries and WU20 if any updates to their Japan sceneries will be needed?

Just got Samscene's excellent Tokyo City Times.
