Very interesting discussion and thoughts, folks.

I know we cannot dictate the strategy of PMDG, nor really influence their pricing. They do what they think they can do in their niche market, currently without any competition at all.

Indeed, no one else, including iFly, has entered the NG market for MSFS. The barriers, financial and technical, must be significant. I recall now how I was flying, for about a year, both the 737NGs, in FSX, almost daily, the PMDG and iFly versions on alternate days.

Meanwhile, I also wonder about the RW. The first B- jet, the 367, flew nearly 20 years before the first A-jet, the 300. Likewise, the first 737 flew exactly 20 years before the 320. Competition has profound effect to shake off the sense of invincibility. We know that two months ago in October, the A320 finally surpassed the (once untouchable) B737.

I guess that’s the difference between RW and virtual world…🙂

Being probably one of the only long-time simmers here in Xbox (have been on Xbox since the beginning of MSFS2020), I must say that PMDG 737 was absolutely (and unbelievably) smooth in performance, in my Xbox. It still works very well for me in MSFS2024, except that certain operations in the EFB causes me CTD…

Anyway, those who got the -800 yesterday, enjoy. Meanwhile, I’ll wait for the (enhanced) -600, hopefully soon…🙂

Happy flying…!

Only because I was curious I logged into my account, proceeded to checkout and to my surprise the price was $30. The only issue is that I have never purchased the 737 for 2020. I purchased the 737 for P3D and every other previous PMDG product but never the 737 for 2020. Website bug perhaps?

You have discipline being able to wait. But MP purchases show up on the credit card. I guess you can say the payment was for Microsoft One Drive. I am in the same boat as you. I bought my 738 in MSFS 2020 from MP. Never again PMDG!!! I have learned my lesson the hard way. OC3 from here on in.

No one refuses. But they refuse to pay 15 bucks per cup of coffee.

That's hardly a fair comparison.  15 bucks for expensive coffee that you drink in 30 min vs 1000s of hours with a 30 USD software purchase for someone's primary hobby.

Seriously, people are hilarious.

I didn't say the upgrade price would be in the range of a couple of coffees. The CEO of PMDG did.

I'm all for taking people at their word. Especially when it comes to pricing.

Judging by rsrandazzos language and approach towards one of his customers here, I'd suggest the children are at PMDG. If this is accurate and not AI generated (and I've no reason to think it is) then I'm done with PMDG.

To me, the behavior shown here borders on a personality disorder.

Surely no CEO of a company that wants to be respected would behave like that in public!?

It's simply repulsive.

Yup. It's kinda interesting to see how their culture is changing. Not just PMDG..

If I was not facing the prospect of having to shell out the full £70 for a copy of MSFS 2024, I would have been very tempted to buy the 800 package at full price.

I only have the v2020 -700, but I was (eventually) able to get the -800 for the $30 price.

Something slightly different seems to work for different people. For me, switching browsers to Mozilla Firefox and logging in to pmdg.com before I added the jet to the cart presented me with the discount when I hit the Pay Now page. Whereas previously, using MS Edge, no combination of tactics worked (InPrivate, cookies/cache cleared, logged out, then in, etc., etc.).

I was okay with waiting until Feb, TBH, but to be able to try out the improvements RIGHT NOW combined with a variant I don't already have made it a Flash Sale I couldn't resist.

(and yeah, I know Randazzo "got me" - and that's just fine with me 😉 )

Well, I'm in a pretty strong position here, because 90% of my flying is with delicious GA models from A2A, BlackSquare, COWS and FSW.

I don't own the iFly 737 but have certainly bought every version of the PMDG 737.  So I have 'form' for buying their 73s when released.  I'm honestly not bothered by the $30 price tag. If it's a decent update I'd say that's about what I'd expect.

But because I only fly airliners occassionally these days, I'm not exactly 'chomping at the bit' to buy this.

As of last evening I would have said that the chances I would buy it to fly at some point would have been over 90%. However the case of that PMDG user who was allegedly banned and called an a$$wipe by Robert Randazzo has really stuck in my throat. 😠   The only thing I detest more than arrogance, is arrogance shown by a business towards its customers.

The usual smarmy people on here posted things like "You're all children, every one of you will buy it".   Well, no. Some of us are highly disciplined in applying our principals.    I was hugely into Airbus and the Fenix, when the FSL was released for MSFS.  Part of me desperately wanted to pick up their new A320.    But I didn't and I never will because I do not buy FSL products, for reasons I don't need to elaborate on I'm sure.

Randazzo also seems to take the view that "you'll all buy it any way 😇" but actually you have a choice.  If you're strong and integral enough to use it.

Having read the sheer arrogance of Randazzo calling a customer an 'a$$wipe' for a post that wasn't abusive, I have no intention of buying or supporting PMDG again because - I can't speak for the rest of their team (they might be good guys) - but their leader is just obnoxious and toxic IMHO.

What word would you use to describe a business owner who calls his customers abusive, petulent names, knowing that his response will likely be shared across the internet?    I'm going to go with "a$$wipe".

It would be quite out of character for Randazzo to do so. Based on that, "Benefit of the Doubt" should apply.

It wouldn't even take "AI" to make that screenshot. You could do it using MS Paint in about 5 mins flat (especially - ESPECIALLY - if you did indeed get yourself banned!).
