I'm late to the party but I'm currently using v5.4. Is v6 a worthy upgrade to v5?

I never purchased v6 due to lack of 3rd party development.  Screenshots and videos I’ve seen look really good, but if you have a hanger of payware planes in v5, I say stick with that.

 

 

I have it and add-ons for it are limited but I do like it.

TFDI MD11 and B717 work, have proper V6 installers, and though I haven't used it for some time the Majestic dash 8 did work.

For scenery if you like to fly in Canada there is a company, SimAddOns, a one man operation in Switzerland, Ralph, that produces Canadian airports. I've been a customer for quite a few years. They cover Canada coast to coast and right up in to the high arctic. he also has them for MSFS2020 and 2024. Worth checking out.

Not if you want your PMDG 744 like me...P3D is a dead end now.

I bought it on release but don't have it installed. Version5.4 is the zenith of the P3D line. Version 6 is a dead end as far as addon port overs or anything new. IMHO put your money else where. I am currently enjoying XPlane12.

I use v6 and it's fine for me. I wanted flight fidelity more than pretty.
I never bought into PMDG, too much for an addon to a game.
The dash 8 is the most money I dropped and it's a beaut.

I enjoy v6 a lot, with some workarounds it is completely possible to get a lot working. it all depends on what you are looking for i guess.

Same here - I did not wish to jump through hoops with the hundreds of individual add-ons I have, none of which officially support it. The other thing is that I am told the ability to get a high quality end result with anti-aliasing declines with each new version - those that have tried versions 4, 5 and 6 say that 4 remains the best if anti-aliasing results matter greatly (and they do to me which is why I stuck with 4 - I did try 5 and could not obtain satisfactory image quality as too many things on the screen refused to be "improved" at all by any anti-aliasing types that I would attempt to apply). Having said that, I suspect P3D has been developed from version 5 onwards more with an eye to very high pixel density 4K and 8K monitors where the need for extensive anti-aliasing would not be as great (though if my experience with P3D is anything to go by, you really need a seriously high pixel density (somewhere between that of a phone and a small high end laptop) or otherwise need to throw a heap of AA at it (or not be fussy about the shimmies that will otherwise result).

YES - but only IF you're willing to:

A. spend considerable time fiddling with addons to get them to work (this takes time even if you follow the documented steps of others), or...

B. give up the vast majority of your v4/v5 addons that haven't gotten a v6 installer upgrade.

oh, and C. be willing to live with the side-effects of addons that haven't been graphically updated to match v6's lighting (similar to the "dark cockpits" of v4 addons in v5. 

I use V6.11 and Nvidia 5.4 and G sync = a new V6

I declined the V6 version as soon as LorBy_SI support announced that 
"Most (if not all) of the  payware apps (CropDusterX, FireFighterX, CameraPositonX, AiTrackerX and WAMA) will be removed from the shops" due to incompatibility with P3DV6.x.

The FireFighterX add-on is essential for me. It works perfectly with P3Dv5.4 and my awesome Canadair CL415. 

By the way, LORBY_SI perfectly explains the unexpected reasons for this incompatibility with P3Dv6:

I have had V6 since release and do like it, But one simple rule in P3D Flight Sim use the one you like your not forced to update to something you don`t.

I would switch to v6 (I use v5.4 now), but I don't want to go through the hassle of getting this working/showing correctly.

What does "flight fidelity" have to do with v6...?

A good FM comes more from the dev than the sim (as with the Q400).

Also, the flight modeling in every other modern sim (XP, MSFS2024) is better than P3D.  
 

Also wants fidelity but not PMDG, which is one of the best aircraft out there.
