I disagree.

The quantity is there, but other than that it's basically the same old same old.

It seems every other week a developer drops another rust bucket

Developers release underoptimized and underperforming airports that kill your framerates faster than the Plague killed serfs in the Middle Ages

Where are the truly challenging products, like, say, a built-from-the-ground-up Bombardier 7500 or 8000 with a fully modeled avioncis suite?

For me, the true revolution that happened with the release of MSFS 2020 was flightsim.to and the great number of freeware products that are on par, and in many cases, vastly exceed payware offerings.

  • I agree. It's a very active time in MSFS2024. I don't know XP, but I know FSX very well...well past its golden age, into the sunset years...all the way to 2020.  Yes, past the golden age, wh

  • Biggest thing is, with Xbox and PS5 support, it's NOT a niche market anymore.  A lot of developers have said that (even before PS5 support) that MSFS and MSFS 2024 have orders of magnitude more sales

@Ricardo41

True, Ricardo.

However, without active production and pipeline of payware products (a/c, scenery, and rust buckets...🙂...included), the vibrancy of the SIM goes away.

And, when that happens, the flow of freeware contributions also slows down and (eventually) dries out...

Witnessed this, firsthand in the lifespan of FSX (2006-2020).

In reality you only fly so many. I feel you gotta fight the "gotta have it" urge.

I am really surprised no ones done a 787-9, other than the freeware offerings. Surely it would sell very well considering it's current, and prolific throughout airlines all over the World.

I've noticed that there are many add-ons that are released that I have no interest in owning. So I just focus on looking for what I feel will make my sim better.

My next purchase will probably be Chaseplane and FS Realistic + Upgrade. That's if I decide to stick with FS 2024 or spend more time on the platform. After some tests of MSFS 2024 SU4, I'm not sure if I will.

MSFS 24 is my main sim, still using 2020 often, and even have XP12, but then you see the ground scenery in XP and go ughhh, 24 & 20 have no competition in this area default.

Why not use the same satellite scenery in XP12 that you see in MSFS?  The Map Enhancement Tool is easy to use.

I don't disagree with you but these are the money makers and ultimately these are businesses at the end of the day.

Tis truly a shame, but we have the added benefit of constant updates to help rectify this. I'm not excusing the developers of releasing the products in this state in the first place but compared to back in FS9 days we were lucky to get an SP1 within 6 months.

I feel like this is subjective. Why is a bombardier 7500 anymore challenging to make than a Airbus A320? I agree with the lack of viable long-range business jets but from a business POV I really doubt there's a viable enough interest to make these in a high-fidelity and expect a reasonable ROI on them. You may probably say "well what about JustFlight and their classic airliners?" To which my response is ultimately airliners of any kind is going to have a bigger following than business jets. Just my 0.02p though.

I fight the urge to buy new airports on a frequent basis, but I end up losing the fight almost 100% of the time  I have just purchased France VFR LFKB Bastia Poretta and IniBuilds ENHD Haugesund Karmoy this morning, and I am fighting hard to wait for sales discounts for another three (IniBuilds EGKK London Gatwick and EGCC Manchester, and MK Studios EFHK Helsinki Vantaa v2). I said almost 100% of the time, because so far I have successfully resisted the urge to buy MK Studios EDDL Dusseldorf........

I wonder if the amount of releases relates to the amount of money being spent by consumers. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I personally have spent an awful lot less since 2024 came out. I spent a small fortune on addons when 2020 released, and for the most part I use old 2020 addons that either work with 2024 or have been made compatible. I have purchased a couple of 2024 specific addons, but only if there was an upgrade price.

There’re all too scared !

Either that or the fact bluebird have put a placeholder statement out that they’re doing one has put other people off which is a shame because I doubt realistically we’ll se it in this decade.

I sometimes wonder why anyone would want to be a developer at all.
So much work to redevelop for every change and a customer expectation
that it is either free of charge or heavily discounted.

At one time of day, it was a passion and for some developers, it clearly
still is, but the daily grind of "where is my free/discounted update that I
am entitled to because I decided to change simulators" must eat away
at that enthusiasm.

That is a fair point. I certainly do not expect developers to offer discounts on a regular basis, but it is usually the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. The two airports that I purchased this morning were indeed full price, but they were relatively inexpensive when compared to the other three.

Yes, absolutely, not to be ignored, Vincent...!

In this context, sometimes I wonder, if MSFS would be kind enough to place some of your work in the Marketplace (for my and benefit of other Xbox users...🙂...), with availability options such as: FREE, $1.99, $4.99, or $19.99 etc. All would be perfectly acceptable to me, and, btw, I do see occasionally free stuff there including some airport sceneries.

Oh well...then it might not become freeware anymore...

I was a voracious consumer of freeware in my FSX days, spending probably more time looking for stuff in the libraries, than actually flying them.

This. The amount of excellent freeware is astonishing. You can spend hours browsing Flightsim.to to find many, many wonderful free additions to the sim.
