Will DLSS5 Take XP12 to Visual Realism Never Before Possible

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody,

As the title states, will DLSS5 take XP12 to visual realism never before possible? I wonder what the future of flight sim will look like under DLSS5 and will you need one or multiple 5000 boards to get the performance needed for smooth flight? Will older video boards be able to take advantage of DLSS5?

The video I've seen so far looks impressive.

But they are fake frames?  Sort like what happens when you drink too much 😉 … why chase FPS?  But more importantly why allow nVidia/AMD off the hook for lack of actual core rendering performance innov

does x-plane use any version of DLSS at all? DLSS from Nvidia is not implemented at all. Why DLSS isn’t available DLSS requires motion vectors from the game’s rendering eng

For those who will be able to afford new shiny GPUs, maybe, yes. For the rest of us mortals, no.

If it's an nvidia only feature, it's highly unlikely you'll see it in X-Plane, as the Laminar guys, for the most part, work on Mac's.

FSR is the equivalent, but is cross compatible.

Thankfully we don't have DLSS nor FSR, no need to splash out a lot of cash for the latest and greatest graphic card 😁

  • DLSS from Nvidia is not implemented at all.

Why DLSS isn’t available

DLSS requires motion vectors from the game’s rendering engine.
X-Plane’s engine currently does not generate these, so technologies like DLSS or modern temporal upscalers can’t work yet.

Adding them would require major changes to the renderer, not just a simple update.

Comparison with other flight sims

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator → DLSS + Frame Generation

  • DCS World → DLSS supported

  • X-Plane 12 → FSR only

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

FSR1 only for the time being. Anything higher requires motion vectors.

DLSS5 why bother even rendering anything ... just let AI decide what you should see ...

This is hilarious!

All you need are TWO 5090s ... back to the future ... SLI ... when engineering hits a wall but you still need more money from consumers ...

The only thing DLSS5 will present are visuals that aren't there or intended by the developers.

There is ONE industry that will definitely sign up for DLSS5 ... but this site is kid friendly 😉

I doubt DLSS5 will bring any more "realism" to Flight Simulation but I'm sure it will "change the world as we see it" 😉

Ben Supnik mentioned few times that they have motion vectors in plans and then it will enable them implementing DLSS and FSR. I think this is a must for any video game in active development.

I'm excited with the latest version 4 of DLSS. In DCS all instruments are readable in VR and its a big improvement.

If/when they add it, it'll obviously be for Windows only.  Apple, for some ridiculous reason, don't allow nvidia chipsets on their products.  Drives me crazy.

I am not sure if this limitation applies to DLSS5 as it was introduced now - this is not about injecting (predicting) frames, which requires motion vectors to "predict" where the pixel will be in the next frame, this is taking a picture, telling AI "spruce it up!!" and then showing the spruced up one instead of the original...as far as I understand. Kinda like a shader you run on your iPhone when making thumbnails for your only-fans account 😇. "Remove wrinkles and hair! Add more hair here! Make this here a lot bigger, this here a lot smaller..."

Not understanding all the hate..

you are right. and I thought flight simmers might be interested in future graphics development. but since x-plane is lacking any motion vectors technology to support DLSS unlike other flight simulators, I'd rather complain to their developers instead of NVidia for pushing technology even further. if and how flight simulators will benefit from DLSS 5 we don't know yet but at least we can start to hate it already, just like the "fake frames" nay sayers when FrameGeneration doubled my fps to unprecedented values in other simulators. 🤣
