As a guy who spends every six months in Level D sims, the weather  in 2024 is miles better than how it looks in a real sim.  First off there is no live weather in a real sim, so it’s all presets.

Having read a number of pages on this post, I often get the impression some people on Avsim are more interested in complaining for the sake of complaining.  I just did 4 flights since SU5 came ou

I never do that.  Just install it.

Use windows 11, nothing is designed for Windows 10 anymore.

I was on win 11 while running v2024. Now I'm back on win 10 running v2020. I might upgrade to win 11.

I don't think that I can handle anymore SUs. I'm going to wait for a few SUs before I install v2024 again.

Do you really think that I wanted to spend an entire day installing v2020 again?

And shortly after you'll be planning a return to 2024 😂

It takes 1/2 hour to re-install. 😀

In any case, lemme tell you guys: the day you're really unhappy with MSFS 2024 is the day you should fire up one of your other sims for comparison. All of the sudden, all these MSFS "problems" just don't seem to matter any longer. 😁

I did this last year and then ended up taking a year off... Here I am back again, firing up another sim. Here I also am extremely happy to see that people are now taking the LOD seriously, even though I was screaming about it upon release, it was awful then, and it's awful now. It's reason enough not to use the sim (for me).

Why is it that you guys have to resort to personal insults over somebody's choice of what flight sim they want to use?
Seems a bit extreme don't you think if you have to resort to this to kind of language to defend your favourite toy, which is ultimately just a thing putting pixels on a screen.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

other models (jetways)

Which jetway models specifically?

I'm looking at the ones at the Gaya Handcrafted LEMD, and even at extreme distances the wheels are still there.

I wanted to give a quick update on my reinstall after SU5.  I noticed my sim is so much snappier and more responsive.  I don't get bad stutters when changing views, and visuals are crisp.

I still don't know what happened, but my guess is that my sim was just getting in a less good state.  It wasn't like it was crashing or anything, but definitely not running as well as it should.  My guess is it really wasn't SU5, but just a gradual decline that it accelerated.  I didn't realize how clunky my sim was running.

I also had quite a few utility addons, and cutting a bunch of those may have helped too, but not 100% sure.  I'm still running ChasePlane, FlowPro, FSRealistic+ and some others.

Now, I'm not preaching that a reinstall will work for everyone.  There's probably even a less destructive way to do that.  This is just a single data point too, so just sharing it if it is useful to anyone.  A reinstall was really a lot less painful than I expeced, many things are stored in the cloud.  However you still definitely want to export your control settings, screenshot your general settings and anything else important, just in case.

Also, for anyone thinking of nuking 2024 and going back to 2020, maybe it is worth uninstalling and reinstalling, since you're uninstalling anyway.

Hi, you had bad stutters when changing views before the reinstall? Interesting if so.

Please take a chill pill. There was no personal attack intended. he can go back to FS9 if he wants as far as I'm concerned. I was pointing out that it's crazy to think you can return back to the good old days to solve your issues. I currently in the middle of a 12-hour flight from Germany to Atlanta and had no issues with Win 11 or SU5. Are there nagging issues with 2024, yes. But to want to jump back to another simulator and pretend that that sim doesn't have issues is crazy.

It was not aa 3rd party or contracted 3rd party by MS/Asobo (you’ll to select one of the “generic” ones provided by default in MSFS 2024) … I’ll go thru my notes tonight and post a video if I have time.  It’s the same issue as any other small object and not restricted to Jetways wheels … any “default” airport with jetways will demonstrate the issue.  I want to say default PDX was one of them (really need to check my notes), but I was able to replicate on just about any default MSFS 2024 airport that wasn’t 3rd party.

Graphics settings:

  • Everything on Ultra
  • Blurr OFF
  • No DLSS/FG
  • Resolution 3840 x 2160

I estimated distance from object around 400-500 ft.

Looks like I had started some documentation on PDX:

I’m in the office right now, but like I said, you should be able to determine on any default airport.

Yes, although maybe "bad" is a bit strong but definitely there.  This was before SU5 too.  I guess I just learned to live with them, but now my views snap instantly.

I'm not one of those types to hyper-focus on performance, I never turn on the FPS counter, but the difference is very noticeable.  I can say it is not a placebo.

That said, I still don't know what fixed what.  Maybe just uninstalling and reinstalling some of my addons would have done it?

Again I don't want to push everyone to reinstall, especially when I don't really know what was going on.  Obviously this is a single data point, but when all is said and done, I'm very happy with my 2024 sim right now.  When that one Youtuber suggested it, I kind of scoffed at it, but here I am.

Right, however is possible that an add-on maybe with 2020 compatibility may cause some instability, I read somewhere that maybe the textures of a 2020 scenery compatible with 2024 may be a cause, I don't know for sure. If you ask me, I consider a viable although drastic measure the complete 2024 reinstallation for just ultimately narrowing down this very same nasty issue that is the bad stutters when changing views or the textures reload that some also say. I will think about it, will find the time and patience for doing the 2024 reinstall, many thanks for sharing your thoughts.

No problem, I really did want to share how positive it has worked out, better than I could have hoped.

Just to be clear, I basically threw my whole community folder back in with the addon linker.  The only things I removed were some utilities like a landing rate thing and I also removed everything AIG (not that I want to blame any problems on those).  All airports and planes went right back in, plus stuff streaming from the marketplace.  It wasn't like I went "vanilla".  Just some stuff I wasn't using anyway.  I had just about every AI traffic program installed, so I scaled that back to just BATC + FSLTL models.  I've got tons of freeware airports.  There's a few 3rd party airplanes I didn't reinstall simply because I didn't use them.

I will say for a reinstall, it probably took me a couple hours in total, spread out over a couple of days.  If you use an addon linker, most things are simple.  Just unlink, uninstall, reinstall.  The big thing was anything actually running in community, and screenshotting my graphics settings.  Do the prep work ahead of time and it wasn't bad.  I work from home some days, so it is super easy just to have my work laptop on while I wait for things to run on my gaming PC.  I have really good internet too, which helps.

Right now I'm in a helicopter and my views are snapping left and right, faster than I could actually move my actual head without hurting myself.

So, first real go on SU5, it's recognising my Fulcrum yoke as a f*cking Tobi, so it's unuseable 😞
