PMDG 737 NGX: The View Forward

Featured Replies

No, it did say mid2010 for a while. I believe that it was altered after the release of the 747-i, when their website was restyled.

Yes, I remember seeing mid 2010 too so I guess plans changed for some reason since we're passed that now. Too bad, would really have been great to get it just in time for the summer holidays with lots of spare time but let's keep our fingers crossed we will get some great news soon.

Regarding the SDK...which pleases me more than the screen shots do. Is there any chance that you can release that out to people or in particular people like OpenCockpits, or Nico Kaan who did wonderful things with the levelD SDK using LEKSEECON? So that we can start seeing how to get our hardware set up for this great plane?RegardsJames Carr

When can we have some screen shots of the Woodpigeon?

Dan Downs KCRP

As excited as I am about the woodpigeon, I am allmost as excited to see some exterior shots of the NGX! I got to sit in the cockpit of a westjet 737-700 a couple days ago when I went to Calgary. The Captain spent 20 mins with me just chatting about the functions. He was quite blown away when I started pointing out different switches and start procedures with him. He asked where I learned how it all worked, I told him about FSX and the up comming PMDG 737. I may have got you guys a new customer!! :(Edit: I should add we were at the gate when I was up front!!! (thanks TSA :()

Maybe not - I've met at least a couple of Qantas pilots who like to use the existing PMDG 737NG to practise basic stuff like circuits or one-engine approach before a sim checkride. One of them was looking forward to the new PMDG 737NG 2.0 being released, as he couldn't save a panel state with the old one. He also tried another company's 737NG and reckoned it didn't compare.Cheers,Rudy

I wouldn't be too sure about suggesting a real 737 pilot wouldn't be interested in something that might help them improve their skills. I know plenty of pilots who use FS to brush up on stuff, notably with the PMDG 747; I've certainly used PC-based flight simulators to try things out which I've later done on the real aircraft.A few years ago, when FS was not as realistic as it is these days, it would have certainly been frowned upon to use a PC entertainment sim for such things, but these days there are many real world pilots who started out on FS long before they ever sat in a real aircraft's cockpit, who know that FS can be of value. There are many things which FS can do that are as good, if not better than some of the approved training sims for a PC, such as the old Elite and Aerowinx procedure sims. I know for example, that the PC-based entertainment flight sim, Silent Wings, is used by the BGA as an introductory sim to train pilots, and the ATC entertainment sim, London Centre, is used by quite a few controllers in the UK as a training aid.Firing up FSX isn't the same as jumping into a Thales Level D simulator of course, but you certainly can use FS to practice some real world stuff, and if you have a check ride coming up and are sat in a hotel room with nothing to do and only a laptop to keep you company, then running through stuff on FS with a decent add-on can certainly help to reinforce what you know, so long as the thing you are practicing is well simulated in the FS add-on you are using.Al

I HIGHLY doubt that
Yeah, that statement was unfounded. Think before you post. I know of at least two pilots, one from AirTran and the other from Delta that have used PMDG products.

Absolutely!! My last post was sarcastic!!! The Captain was genuinely interested in hearing about FSX and the PMDG aircraft!!! We talked about the sim for a while! He even wrote down the MSFS and PMDG on his Iphone saying he'd check it out! Like I said, he was blown away with what I knew about the plane and had asked where I learned the procedures. So, Yes, I may have got a new customer for PMDG! Just call me optimistic! :(

A lot of real life pilots do not know how the level of realism has gone up within the FSX environment. One day a real life 767 pilot was sitting next to me just to observe what I am so excited about the sim. At that time I had Level-D 767, real weather, add on Amsterdam etc. loaded up. The flight was during the rush hour in IVAO and the Schipol controlers were doing their job excellent. At the end of the flight the 767 pilot had his jaw dropped.... he said .."Oh God, who are the crazy people doing all this stuff?...."Later on the same guy was doing his transfer to A330-A340. He got a high end rig+add on Airbus and all whistles &bells and he did part of his training at home...I am sure that there a lots of other pilots using the sim with PMDG add ons to do the same.P.S> Oh, and by the way the same applies to real life ATC who use IVAO or VATSIM to keep up with the work...

I ran into a couple of World Airways MD-11 pilots last month in Kuwait and one of them owns the PMDG MD-11. They said that PMDG got it right, everything from the systems modeling to the flight dynamics.
