PMDG 737 NGX: The View Forward

Recommended Posts

Thats alot of eye candy for sure. As usual, PMDG makes the best cockpits ever, and prolly planes as well. But tbh, I think I'm not alone to be more focused on the realism of instruments, systems and flight model. Having said that, and even though I am expecting that plane like a kid at xmas, I'd rather wait for a few extra months until you guys have tested it through and through so that it reaches the shelves prefectly flyable with every feature working properly.Who's beta testing PMDG products BTW?Regards,Peter

...too much of it makes it seem like a thirld world country company airplane...
The few 'third world' cockpits I have been in have been maintained absolutly spotlessly! The pride and prestige involved can not be overstated. The featured cockpit here is more typically of a mainstream western carrier then any third world airline.

If you think we're sacrificing systems and flight model for visual stuff on this, you have another thing coming. ;)Our beta team is made up of real life NG drivers and engineers and a core group of long time users who've proven themselves over the years to us.

Hi!Not to be showing off, but this is my personal version of the Boeing 737NG HGS-4000 ;). Believe it or not is totally coded in XML for FS8!, it has Primary, AIII, IMC, VMC modes, and don't know if include an Unusual Attitude mode since so far it's very Frames Per Second friendly and there are still some details I want to add :). That's a very cool HUD of yours.Javier

i dont like hud's. its not for airliner planes. it should only be for military use only. this feature on the 737 i would never use.
If its not for Airliners then why do they have them?

Early pilots refused to learn how to fly using gyros, thought a real man didn't need no fancy instruments.

I wouldn't say that if I were you. Maybe sometime in the future you'll come back to this forum and say something like:"Oh! the HUD is so good", or "The HUD is so helpful"... or even "I can't fly without the HUD".If they put that into the airliners, I'm sure the engineers had their reason for that. They wouldn't spend money developing and manufacturing something that would be useless for no reason. Here is something I learned the hard way:NEVER say that someone is an IDIOT before you know what you're talking about, because the IDIOT may be YOU. I mean, DO NOT criticize something before you truly know what is that about. If you have already had an experience with the HUD and you really didn't like it, I take back everything I said and then I turn the idiot, but if you never used it...Take this as a lesson.

Seriously? Ok, let me educate you my friend. During one of our routine safety briefs (I'm a R/W ATC) the topic of discussion was runway incursions durig IFR conditions. Currently, most aircraft don't come with HUD's because the general thinking was what you are thinking. This left only one safety mechanism, the controller. Because pilots are in "Heads Down" mode during IFR weather, some don't look out the window to see if there's an aircraft sitting on the approach end (remember LAX?). While as controllers we do our best, mistake happen an sometimes we can't even see the runway itself. The airlines finally got the idea to add HUD's to their aircraft allowing the pilots to not only see the instruments they need during approach but to also stay in "Heads Up" mode. This gives the pilot the advantage of seeing what's on the runway before he/she puts the plane on the ground. It's simply one more feature that keeps YOU safe when flying.

The HUD might not be something you'll use a lot, after all, it does fold up out of the way, but with it on two of the 737s I already have, I can say it has on occasion proved useful in poor weather, although the forthcoming PMDG one, which I understand is collimated like the real thing, is undoubtedly going to be even more useful, since that would be more faithful to the real piece of equipment. Anything that adds to a pilot's situational awareness is likely to be a good thing.Al

I'd have to agree - my experiences in the 737-700 simulator using the HUD proved to be more beneficial than without. Situational awareness especially in poor weather conditions is most advantagous.

And waiting until the fog disperses itself is not so much fun at least in FS :). Does some HUD lovers have screenshots to share?Javier

Sorry, but anything that keeps the pilot looking out the window watching for the ground as opposed to looking down at a video screen is just fine by me. The total velocity vector (to use a fighter jet term) on the HUD makes it incredibly easy to nail the glidepath too - just put it on the TDZ and that's where the plane is going to land.

The velocity vector that is adjacent to the Flight path maker on some HUDs makes it a snap to nail airspeeds without A/T. I really want to see some shots of this in the VC, if you guys can meet half of what you claim, it will be epic.
