Carenado C340 - anyone with a quick mini review?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about getting it, but man, seriously I have enough of planes, I'm just thinking that if this thing really is all that, I might get it, but...real curious on how it is, how does it compare to say the Seneca II or the Duke, etc??in real life the Duke is a lot more expensive to operate then the 340 correct?

Ciao!

Hi Brian,I took her up for a short flight around KPHX. First off, the FPS performance is better than the Caravan on my rig. The quality of the VC is the best I've seen to date and without the hit. Carenado is just amazing in that department. The 3D gauges are smooth as silk. The FDE I can't say a whole lot about as I've never flown the real 340, however Carenado states a certification of 5 pilots that tested this model. I am very pleased overall. Again I have not done more than 20 minutes with it. The sound set is very good. The only thing I noticed is the engine sounds are lower than I've seen in their other products, however maybe it was to capture wearing ANR headsets. No big deal. I had my engine sounds set to 20 which I find realistic in most planes. I bumped them to 35 and it is now well balanced for me. I can comment more after another flight. The night lighting from the screens is spot on or as close as you can get to the real deal. I hope this helped a little bit.EDIT: I forgot.. I have the Seneca from FS9 in FSX and this looks much nicer. They definitely have got more fine tuned technics behind this VC. The only other thing is the wing span from in the VC appears short like the Sceneca. Almost like you can reach out and touch it. Again, I was never in either of these aircraft in real life. That's all for now I can think of. I'm sure others will chime in if necessary.Warm regards, Jeff

it is just Average compared to the duke.See a few people have CTD's with the planeit seem to be again a case of releasing an incomplete job and a few patches will follow shortly..

The external and internal textures are outstanding, probably the best VC I've seen in FSX.Now, let's see how this beautiful old lady flies!

As opposed to all those add-ons that never require a patch?Do you even own the C340?

Are your 90 other posts in 4 years this insightful?

I love the aircraft. It is the best I have yet, and I own nearly all of them. Very easy on frames and stunning inside and out and fun to fly!Kind regards,

You wanted a review right? That is why you opened this thread, so why are you upset about that. Do you want him to lie to you about it?

Except for the fact that it wasn't a review and 413 didn't open this thread.Lol

Depends what you are looking at. The variable cost (Fuel/Basic Maint/Oil) between a piston Duke and 340A are almost identical. You can expect a piston Duke to cost $245-265 per hour and a 340A to run $255-270 per current databases. The two 340A's our firm use to own when not in the maintenance hangar (340A's are hangar queens) averaged expenses within those numbers. The Duke also has about the same fixed cost (Training/Hangar/Speed) as the 340A. Expect a total operating cost per hour of $350-375 for either. Duke's are very expensive to insure compared to the 340A and the Duke's powerplants are about double the cost to overhaul compared to the 340A. Other than that they have very similar costs. A turbine Duke throws all the numbers off but I have been told by a friend who maintains one out of KAPA the performance is incredible and slightly scary.

Quite the contrary actually. This is a relatively clean release for Carenado. I am pleased to see how few bugs there are. It is a vast improvement over previous releases and should be applauded. They're going in the right direction. You want a quick mini review? My Duke and Cheyenne will remain hangared, probably indefinitely.Between the Orbx Lancair and Carenado C340, my GA needs are fulfilled. I look forward to adding the new Katana X to the lineup sometime in the (near?) future, and perhaps the Flight1 C182 G1000 whenever that is released.

I guess this doesn't really count as a 'review' more an opinion. (Are they allowed? :( ) The C340 is very well presented graphically, stuff works, as it should for a $35 add-on. Compared to the Duke, don't have it. Compared to the Cheyenne it's a tad on the 'ordinary' side. It reminded me of the Bonanza F33, a bit bland. The Cheyenne on the other hand feels more 'alive'. As for bugs etc. nothing came and bit me on the &@($* but there are folk out there that will tell you soon enough, if it doesn't behave correctly when the ashtrays are full.I'll get me coat. :smile:P.S. This is in no way a dig at Carenado, I got practically all their stuff, they've very likely made a model of the plane as it really is.

How about RXP integration? Did they happen to include radio stacks without 3d knobs similar to the F33?It looks beautiful from the screen shots but without my precious RXP stack I'll be sticking to the Duke.Disregard, I found it is possible (although they look a bit distorted) from this post:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/323898-rxp-340-install/

You can make it work.. and there is more room in the panel than in the Bonanza. :(
