PMDG update, awesome vid + 2D panel screenshot + more...

One thing that bothers me about the NGX as it is shown in these videos, is the inclusion of extraneous menu options incorporated in the FMC, like the PMDG options. While it is certainly convenient to have them there, it does take away from the products realism. It might have been better to keep them in the FSX menu system. Or use popup 2D menus like Captain Sim does with it's icon and animation menus. This way they are hidden unless used.
I thought that was a great idea, much rather stay out of the FSX menus as much as possible. Each to his/her own though.....G

I really dont understand some of you people. It was clearly stated that, like every other addon, the manuals would be part of the download. Instead of ######ing and getting narky, and spreading false rumors, perhaps head over to their forum and do a search, or ask them? With that rant over, I have decided to stay quite, and not join the daily ######fest over at the PMDG forum. I own both the 744 and JS41 and am sure the wait will be worth it. I am prepared to wait as long as it takes, because the last thing we want is a half completed aircraft with SP1 then SP2.

Can we look forward to a "back to back" review of both the iFly and PMDG products? I certainly hope so.I'd like to see a suitably qualified (with 737 rating) independent contributor review the products as well. It's pretty pointless getting someone with 10 hrs in a Cessna 152 to give their opinion on an airliner.Call me cynical but I don't buy anything based solely on Avsim reviews. I buy stuff based on forum posts across all FS sites. I guess most of the AVSIM forum members do as well?

Ehm, we spoke about if they are printable or not, Sir. So instead of using strong language, enhancing the reading skills may help. As you saw and still are able to see, we've asked the question quite some time now, so we 'did as advised' by you, so to speak. :( If you see 'any false rumors' from my side, you may once again check if you've read the whole post or if you just jumped on some signal words. Seems like a common disease these days. The last statement from PMDG was "maybe" (regarding the printable status) and I'm sorry for asking if this 'maybe' became more final (this would mean "yes" or "no") in the further progress of the product. Just joking, I don't feel sorry to ask, I'm actually seeing this as a valid and reasonable question.

Ok, you may be cynical. I really think that people can judge things (like flight sim products) without having e. g. a 737 rating. Maybe they do this in the same way as they can tell that people are naive, without owning a degree in psychology. :smile:And, by the way, there may be more real pilots in the forums than there are in the real world. Just sayin'.How about a review about the Concorde or that Space Shuttle from Captain Sim?Following your logic, you wouldn't even be able to tell if that type rated reviewer guy is cheating you or not since you don't have a 737 rw rating. So why demand such things?I know, this 'by real world pilots' sentence seems to trigger some guys to buy stuff (oops, this could be the reason for its wide spread usage), but hey, you have your own mind and if you're happy with this or that 737, the biggest thing was already achieved, regardless of some review.By the way, I think that the style in which most Avsim reviewers work is highly adorable since they really dig into the details and point out what they've investigated. A big amount of work there and it is surely useful but still leaves room for interpretation on the reader's side. Perfect! It should help you deciding about buying or not, it doesn't order you to do so.

well im buying both 737s so which ever comes first. However seeing the pure quality of the PMDG makes me very happy to wait for them. If you love the 737 series then the next few months are going to make you so happy =).

Looks really awesome!I am just wondering with all the features, what kind of rig will be required to run this?PMDG in general demands a lot of resources. With the complexity of this aircraft, what kind of performance can we expect?

So what do we know for fact on these two very promising releases, PMDG NGX, and iFly's B737NG for FSX?

  1. They both will be released "soon"
  2. The photos for both look very good
  3. Owners of iFly's B737 for FS9 have "an idea" how the FSX version will fly
  4. A stock copy of FSX performs different on different computers and needs more resources than a stock copy of FS9
  5. There are different degrees of simulation immersion sought by different FS pilots

Did I miss anything? It's likely that:

  1. Some will not like some PMDG's NGX features and would even seek to replace them
  2. Some will combine parts of one simulation with the other while some will complain why people do that

Above all this, we have more than one group of FS add-on developers with different backgrounds, perspectives, etc, releasing a simulation to be enjoyed by all. I'm grateful that we have the choice to purchase or not, and enjoy either or both. Best regards,Dave Vega

For simmers who dont like PMDG's Boeing 737 or iFly's 737 there is an alternative which I highly recommnend. Ariane Design !!! Outstanding customer service and support, you get alot of aircraft for your money and their Boeing 737 range is the best on the market so far. Go for it guys !!!!

(coughing smiley) Ariane (currently) is the only dev I know who has played this 'you can buy some nice manuals for extra money, but you can't print our pdfs' thing. A role model? :( Hopefully not.

Looking forward to this release (same thing I said last year).... I think the end of the waiting is near though.Best regards,Jim

Its a good question, they stated early in the development process that the performance was better than their recent products, then as more features got implemented they said that performance was on par with their latest releases. How the performance is today when all the features have been implemented is anyones guess (unless you have access to the beta of course). Personally I think that PMDG planes perform pretty good compared to other companies in the same marked, for example Captain Sim.

I dont own any Ariane products, but from what Ive been hearing about Ariane is that their customer service is the worst in the business and that their products are very pricey. Are you saying that these common conceptions about Ariane are untrue?

They will illuminate objects. This technology is not entirely new tho, Lotus sim implemented it for their Albatros and Aerosoft did it for their Airbus X as well
...and MilViz in the C310R, and a handful of others as well. :(

Are you serious? Ariane Design stands alone with the worst customer service reputation in the flight simulation community. I will stay away, very far away. Bob

I think the guy who recommended Ariane was just kidding or being facetious.
