A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I have no pretensions of knowing anyone anywhere who knows anything at all even worth knowing from MS and Flight. All I know is that I have a near lifetime of trying to keep this flight hobby alive by personal commitment, engenuity and having to train myself to be a bit of a ad hock rocket scientist along the way. So, If it happens, and Flight is doomed, I will be sad but determined to make the very best of it. We are some pretty smart cookies who gather here with substantial business accumen so I think we could form the nucleous of a surprisingly successful alternative.. If Flight stops, lets make it our responsibility to design, engineer and market its replacement. Think about it. I'm not kidding. kind Regards,

Probably the greatest idea I have seen so far on this forum..... --[DO NOT SHOOT ME FOR THIS]If ALL MS FSX and FS2004 users made a switch to XPLANE10, the entire game would radically be changed by addon developers, user customization, AND the general audience would have the effect of influencing Xplane's developers. Please DO NOT start a XPlane VS MS discussion, this was SIMPLY a statement. If you would like to add to it or make an appropriate comment please do so.

Yes, if everyone abandoned FS for XP it would be very interesting.... and who know's if what has been predicted comes to pass it might just happen. As XP is very much alive, kicking and growing, and you can actually talk to the guy, who is the guy, who own's the whole shebang! I've actually sent several emails back and forth with Austin over an idea I had for XP. So who knows, either this or someone else will come out of nowhere with a whole new sim and a whole new set of ideas.

Curiously, I detect a fading interest in Flight from this very group. People are upgrading their systems and now get decent performance with FSX and their favorite add-ons. I know I am much happier with FSX running at 4.5Ghz which makes Flight a lot less important.
I can't speak for the group, but my interest in Flight has definately waned over the past few months. When it was first announced I visited this forum on a regular basis, checked the MS/Flight site a few times a week to see if anything new was posted, etc. However as time has passed with no new info being presented, the endless debates in this forum over what it will and wont do, and now the post by the 10 Minute Taxi guy, I am honestly not very disappointed if it does get cancelled or delayed for a while. FSX has really started to come into its own over the last year or so with a lots of great new addons being done and some really neat looking stuff yet to come. I honestly wasn't even goin got buy Flight or make the switch until my favorite a/c and scenery were available for it anyway, so I am not really disappointed if I dont see a new sim for another 4 years. After reading some posts over the last day or so in the PMDG forum from one of the Prepar3D support guys and the way they are continually developing it, perhaps Prepar3D will be the sim of the future for us hardcore or enthusiast users? At least they keep working on it to make improvements which can't be said about FSX after SP2. Although I am not crazy about a $10 a month fee, if it's a product that continues to grow and get better over time and the 3PD's start working to make FSX products 100% compatible in it, I could see myself going to that platform in the future. For $120 a year it wouldn't really be that big of a deal considering sometimes I spend $25 a week getting java from Starbucks which gives me a lot less pleasure that the sim offers.

Now that I have a PC powerful enough to run FSX relatively smoothly at maximum detail levels in even the most CPU intensive airports and scenery areas that I have installed, Flight is even less interesting to me than it was before.

Hey Christopher - What's the specs on your computer, or what type are you using...motherboard, CPU, videocard, RAM, hard drive...? Thanks, RH

So, is Flight dead or not.... popcorn.gif
It occurs to the me that the only person in this thread who *might* know that is John Venema from Orbx, and he said "I am sure we will all have a curious play with Flight when the demo is released. " That would suggest to me that it is still a go. I think John chose his words very carefully. Also after having listened to a few episodes of Ten Minute Taxi, that Archhammer guy does not really strike me as a serious journalist.

This was already planed by the guys at Aerosoft, though I don't know if they ever got off the ground.
In the end if MS kills it, it will not be based upon anything but money and as MS has demonstrated in the past many times. it'll happen regardless of how far along the project is.
Well, MS also kills off projects all the time for reasons that have nothing to do with money (ie office politics - like how ACES got shutdown in the first place :-< ).

You said it...Idea.gif not me....if you ask me he did not seems to worry about Flight did he? Thinking.gif EDIT: from my post #105 "as I said they may not be reading in this forum but others are...the simple fact that they will have a marketstore for add-ons should give you (us) a big clue about who may be involved in the talking....OR....is MS just taking a shot in the dark by opening a store hoping to attract add-ons developers in it without any feedback from them....what's plausible to you?" Always refer to my other post # 79 for any of my statements..... Clown.gif
