So anyone wishing to market something like FSX would have to pay LM $499 for each sale?
Well, I don't think you would use P3D to make "something like FSX" :-> The $499 would be paid by two general types of buyers:
  • Solution Providers - these are people who provide a complete solution, including hardware, software, custom content, etc for a single price to their clients
  • Direct End Users - these are people who are setting up one or more machines for a commercial use (training, education, visualization, etc) who then combine the software with their own hardware and any custom content they might want to purchase or create (in the case of High Schools/Colleges/etc, we should have an Educational license available soon, so they won't have to pay the full $499 per seat)

Then there are the Occasional Other buyers, which is anybody else who buys a P3D license (or developer network subscription) for whatever reason :->

Lockheed Martin Prepar3D is an application based on Microsoft ESP. Microsoft's description of ESP:Microsoft ESP platform will help government, commercial and academic organizations apply immersive games-based technology and interactive learning experiences to improve work-force readiness and increase operational excellence. If this sounds like what you are trying to achieve in a flight simulator then Prepar3D would definitely be the way to go.

Maybe going a bit off topic here - but in my opinion the missions (also in FSX) could be a really cool learning tool. They are only rarely used to their potential. For example if someone released a pack of 10-15 missions that teach to fly a complex aircraft like the PMDG 737 with an interactive, talking instructor instead of having to read hundreds of manual pages that might actually be a seller (considering that missions might be cheaper to create than the aircraft itself and therefore don't require the same amount of sales). I would think that at least 70% of the people (including myself) who buy a complex aircraft addon are never able to use it to full potential reading the manual alone.
I reckon this site does pretty much what you what you want, free and payware solutions... http://www.flyaoamedia.com/#aviator90 Cheers,

A thought just occurred to me. As any holidaymaker knows, you you can't get more like reality than to have a sudden flight cancellation, so if Flight really has been cancelled, then bravo to MS for finally making the franchise 'as real as it gets'. LMAO.gif When they announce it's back on, let's hope it has other super-realistic features, such as Spanish Air Traffic Controllers going on strike and Heathrow being closed because there is a snowflake on the runway. I have not been in corporate world for a long time (Self employed little guy), but I do't recall having every one in a division take vacation at the same time. Have things changed? If not then this is bad news for it really is not a real vacation, but a "we give you a vacation so we can think if we should fire you" event.

Nope, but I have noticed that I've been yawning a lot whilst reading threads about MS Flight.

Probably, they have one person who handles PR. That person may well be on extended leave.

IMHO its very bad news that there has been no updates to the Flight website in months. Microsoft is run by execs that get paid bonuses based on its share price. They naturally have a short term view and will happily cut projects to improve the bottom line, raise share price and thus get paid their bonuses. Don't be surprised if Flight is already in its death throws or dead. We just haven't heard about it yet (officially). For those who have any doubts about the motives of company execs just reflect upon what happened to Train Simulator 2 only nine months before release.

How dare you say.... don;t you know the natural evolution of a free market economy and all its supportive business models don't apply to MSFS at least some of our virtual flyers think so... maybe they think its all a virtual world, no?

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I suspect 40,000 is a fairly good estimate for pretty hard-core flight sim enthusiasts...
My apologies for the delayed reaction here but would this number of 40 000 include FS9'ers? Clearly it would be a waste of time for Orbx to track the FS9 user base and there's very little doubt that just about all FS9 users these days would be classed as hard-core.

Some of you need to heed alainneedle1's advice; I'm afraid that some of you might stroke out or something! Shocked.gif I surely hope while all of this anxiety about Flight is playing out that you're still USING your current incarnation of Flight Sim.If they cancel the program, then it's a shame. If they continue forward with it, then it's exciting for you.In the meantime, use your Flight Sim; enjoy it! If not, then get outside, read a book, enjoy the time of year it is in your particular locale.Don't work yourself up into a lather trying to control something you all clearly have no control over. It's Microsoft's dollar, their employees, their bottom line, and their GAME. In the end, speculation usually ends up in disappointment. Alan
