Flight project cancelled/on hold

How many warehouses have you seen with pitched roofs? Where are the single storey, regular sized houses with pitched roofs? Seemingly all cities in Flight consist only of warehouses and no regular sized houses, this gives a false sense of scale... just like in FSX! (Oh wait I forgot it is FSX "SP3")
Good gosh Matthew, dont you ever get tired of complaining about the autogen? We all know you hate it, so why keep harping on it?

If it's wrong then it needs fixing. IIRC it was better scaled in FS2004 but they seemed to have 'stuffed it up' in FSX (and now Flight). This autogen scale problem also affects 3rd party products, eg FTX, where all the houses are enormous (compared to real life).

I found a comment on AirdailyX's blog: http://airdailyx.blogspot.com/2011/09/microsoft-flight-not-on-hold.html

It isn't on Hold but it is a year late. What caused the rumours was Microsoft recently shut out all third party developers by closing their developer scheme. Flight is now a closed platform. NO ADDONS. Also, the guy in the other thread is correct. Flight is only the Island of Hawaii. So no mainland USA or Europe etc. There are no airliners, helicopters or AI either. Its is very basic & certainly NOT a replacement for FS9/FSX. Flight still feels just like FSX/FS9 . Nothing special. It will have missions & a career path. Simple stuff for the console skillset. Not pleasing news for hardcore simmers. Best thing about it is it will be FREE for the base pack. 1 plane, 1 island. My information is from a developer who worked for Microsoft & will remain anonymous.
Could be quite interesting, it it's true.

This sounds like another sad attempt to stir up the community with more unfounded untruths. Personally, seeing the latest Flight update from Microsoft has really brightened up my sim horizon. It was kinda depressing thinking that MSFS may be no more. This fantastic software that some here take pleasure in knocking has brought so much enjoyment to those who love flightsimming. If XP9 were the only kid on the block I'm sorry to say I would certainly not be a flightsimmer today. There might be 10 million options but it looks bad and plays bad.

I give absolutely zero credence to any such claims, especially those coming from "anonymous" posters. With no risk whatever to their own reputation, these anonymous folks can make any rediculous statements with total impunity.

What a ridiculous claim... I would say that this guy is obviously trolling the comments section.

You'r getting there Matthew, FSX SP3 repackaged with a new name, remember MS goal is to make money.
Why do you and others think you're making some grand intelligent point by saying "MS is about making money" every time you dismiss the idea of possible advancements in Flight? By your logic all games would just be repackaged creations of six-seven year old games because obviously everyone's goal is "to make money" and do everything as cheaply as possible right? Of course you ignore the fact that producing for the latest hardware, advancement of new feature sets, and being on the cutting edge is what actually makes money. Not cutting a bunch of corners to save money on the development. Graphically intensive games (FPS, simulations, etc.) of high quality require high production costs but they also deliver the highest return on investment if they deliver. The supposed idea that calculating a positive return on investment means that Microsoft could be doing nothing but repackaging FSX is stupid. They stand to make much more money delivering something that is a quality product that is designed for today's gamers. What they are actually doing is something you or I have no idea of. To continue to post like you've got it all figured out from a few screenshots smacks of unwarranted arrogance. You have no idea what Flight will be and most importantly you have no idea what their development strategy is in relation to production costs. So stop acting like you do.

MS has already shown us more than one plane, so that guys comment is already wrong.

Not only that, the last Flight blog from MS was at pains to highlight improvements to weather displays over FSX, so it seems unlikely they'd be doing that if it was some kind of 'Super Mario Hawaii Flying Game', and even if it was, it certainly wouldn't have a Maule and a Stearman in it, it'd have a Reno racing aeroplane or something like that. I don't know about the rest of you but personally I can't wait to get my credit card out and buy a sim for Hawaii only where I can't fly a PMDG type jet and see any other ai planes. Sounds like a winner to me. Seriously, what a crazy claim, imagine the MS working on something great and then handcuffing themselves, makes absolutely no sense. I can't wait for Flight to come out at some point in 2012, to look great, run great on multi core systems, unify the community under one roof and give us a fantastic platform for a number of years. Bring it on! Mark.

It actually would not surprise me if there was some kind of 'Rise of Flight' stylee attempt to keep a bit of control over add-on purchases in Flight, but what really makes that kind of thing work better, is if there is also the choice to buy from other sources as well. You can see that with Steam and the train sim, Railworks, where there is a large amount of DLC that is kind of the 'official stuff' sold via Steam, but also freeware and third party developers products that can be prchased and installed outside of the Steam system. Apart from the odd (rare) issue where some unofficial add-on stuff gets blown out if there is a patch update via Steam, necessitating a reinstall of some third party things (mostly when it replaces default sounds and stuff like that), it works pretty well, allowing casual users to stay with a simple, trusted 'one-stop-shop' source for add-ons that is childsplay to use (in being fully automated), yet there is still an option for those with a penchant for more esoteric add-ons to go searching about and buy them from other sources. Hopefully that is what MS are looking at emulating. Al

Sounds like the Hawaii-only, one plane simulator would be the demo, if MS has one.

Yup, that's feasible, since if not, the demo would be the same as the game, although if the base game was free, that'd kind of be the point. Al
