Skeleton graphic tail section for a few seconds..

Featured Replies

I will report back with a more detailed answer when I get back. For now, I can tell you that it happens with the 600/700. BUT, I installed SP1 and then immediately installed the 6700 and do not recall if I ever flew the 800 thereafter. Paul made an excellent point regarding FSUIPC autosave if that is applicable in your case.In my case, I get this "tail redraw" on the 600 and it lasts approximately a half second. But, I am running a ton of stuff. PANC X with AES (airport enhancement) which is a beautifully detailed airport but an absolute killer on CPU cycles at the settings I run it at. Plus, EFB, FSUIPC calibrated axes, ASE/REX with a very high level of cloud rendering (at 1920x1200 with high anti-alias settings), UT2 with traffic at 50%, TrackIR etc. My FPS are down to 10-15 and even with this load, the "tail redraw" is less than a second. It is definitely caching issue and it depends on the sequence of which view combinations (VC, external) you use since it does not happen every time.
I tried a few things. Seems like it is only the 600 that has this "tail redraw" lag. I threw everything at it. Killer weather (dense clouds, rain), HGS on/off, crazy VC/external view cycling, different liveries including the house liveries etc. At some point I was showing 10 FPS and still I could only get the 600 to do this on a few occasions. The only repeatable scenario was to remain in the VC for a "long" period of time (minutes) looking all around (TrackIR) and then switching to an ezdok external right side camera. The tail would be a skeleton from a fraction of a second and then all was well. Quick cycling (keeping the external view cached) between VC/external views did NOT spawn the skeleton tail redraw issue. In fact I saw it work the other way with a lag in completing the VC redraw! After a bit of testing, it SEEMS like THIS PARTICULAR would be nice to have fixed but can't see PMDG losing any sleep on this one. Bigger fish to fry as the saying goes.Back to flying this masterpiece!!

Hi Scott, sure, the 'fraction of a second' scenario is not a problem, as I'm sure you'll agree. The issue I have is far, far worse and as I said, only becomes apparent since the installation of SP1. Last night I decided to do some testing and went on a flight from Gib to Valencia with the sole intention of checking things out. The delay is so bad that FSX literally becomes unflyable during the time of loading an external view. The average time is around 5 seconds and during that time the framerate jumps from anything between 3-15 before settling down to about 30. It stutters and stops and the entire sim is all over the place. There is obviously something amiss, so I am going to uninstall everything and reinstall the base pack+SP1 with no liveries to see if I can narrow it down. I also have a brand spanking new rig sat next to me, so I have a complete new system to fly with anyway shortly!

I think his problem with the UK Livery is it was made pre-SP1 and is not compatible. They did make some changes to the aircraft liveries and anything that was made Pre-SP1 can have some issues. That is why they asked you to redownload any liveries you have from PMDG.
I think your onto something here paul. i did the world flight last night in the BA paint and for 4 hours i did not get one skeleton plane! it definitely is the Fly UK livery as a colleague of mine showed me a screenshot of his exactly the same as mine! i will let our fleet repainter know about this and see if he can sort anything.

agreed....i loaded the cool 'blue bandit' livery from avsim that jokerswild made...( http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=163092 ) and the external views went back to loading instantly. after sp1 i was mostly using the alaskan airlines lei livery for 800wl which i picked at random and had setup the systems the way i wanted.... that's the only one i tried after loading sp1..maybe other liveries have the issue too.. is it just 4096 causing trouble and the others are smaller? or maybe like the pmgd one missing mipmaps or something? i dunno. anyway it's definitely fixable. maybe related too with which texture settings for the internals...cheers!-andy crosby

I have this skeleton problem too and only noticed it post SP1. Also have noticed slow load of external textures that wasn't there pre SP1 plus I suspect rather less FPS. This is all with the new low resolution textures which don't seem to have provided any improvement in performance on my rig (i7960 unclocked nvidia 470 1.2 g 6g ram). I guess, as is often the case with complex software, you get rid of old bugs which leads to new ones. In my case I did a complete clean re-install before SP1 install.Bruceb

Regrettably, I'm plus one on this issue. My approach to this problem is to use two other screens to carry the CDU (touch screen) and the FSWidgets EFB. I can then let the sim run for a long time in spot view, and go back to the VC to carry out my checks on the other instruments and ND. It's just a work around nothing more, but it reduces the minor irritation of the skeleton process - even though for me it is only two or three seconds at most. (My third screen runs off a second videocard, so although it takes CPU time, it does not compete for video processing. In the meantime I am sure the PMDG team are trying to figure out a compromise fix - because regrettably computer design, hardware and software operates to Newton's Third Law - every action has an equal and opposite reaction.ps Howard I'm coming across to next year's Tattoo in Edinburgh, I hope I can cross the border to meet up with you.

I too, have this problem. After viewing the 2d panel for awhile, then selecting the outside view, I see the problem. On my system it takes about 1/2 to 2 seconds to complete the loading. I7 OC to 3518 MHZ and GTX460 card. I hope to see a fix.Jim

Me too with the 600 westjet livery. only lasts a second or so,but i can see the rear seats. steve-0

I sure hope the 777 doesn't have these 'skeleton' texture loading issues, been waiting for a top notch 777 for a LONG time!Jayson K.

Yeah I'm hoping that as well, although I think I will be pleased enough when they release it. Judging by current standards, it looks like it will be a good one!

Again guys, this is an FSX engine issue - absolutely nothing at all we can do about it unless you want us to stop producing this level of detail in our models and textures. The model is 100% SDK compliant and native - we're not doing anything weird with the external model at all. SP1 did nothing at all to the external model textures, neither does the Performance Manager - the textures changes were VC only. You guys who are seeing the skeleton stuff - are you using ATI/AMD cards? I've definitely seen more tickets at support on those than with Nvidia. I've personally never seen the issue on my GTX570.

I use a AMD/ ATI system and i get it so yes it is more on that side... I have tweaked my cfg so i'm using bufferpools =0 etc and don't get it anymore but make sure you have a powerful system before handRegards Steve

hi ryan, im running an nvidia 9800GT 512mb, ive noticed that the livery issue is to do with which program the paint kit is packed, i brought this to the attention of our fleet repainter who repacked the livery with the post sp1 livery packer and it works fine. i do still ocasionally get this problem with some liverys from avsim that are still pre sp1.

Here is how I found solution to my skeleton view.Problem: If I open Outside Spot view from 2D cockpit view ,I will see the skeleton rear seats for a second.Solution: If I open first Right overwing view then Outside Spot view. There is no more skeleton view.

That makes sense because the wing views are the external model.
