AS2012 Released for ASE users..

Featured Replies

May sound way too rude, but one of the things I'm waiting for is the next ASE patch. :(

HelloASE is good, but believe me AS2012 is very much better and having used Hifi's products since AS2004 I know this is only the start for this version. If you want the best weather program for FSX then this is it.

I spent a good part of my day flying the Duke Turbo and the AS2012 program around Pensacola in some very nasty weather. Lots of rain, low ceilings with areas of patchy fog. I must now say that I was very impressed with the performance of AS2012. Some of the approaches had me a bit tense to say the least! I can say that it was as close to the real thing as I have ever seen in a flight sim. If you think this release is just to fix bugs or make a few bucks then no offence but you are just flat wrong. I don't fly the tube liners but for general aviation....this is the way to go. I made several flights with 25 FPS locked in and smooth even in tight turns over the land and water at 600-800 ft with ragged ceilings and fog and rain. If you live for free and cheap then so be it, but for those of you looking for the best out there, I truly believe the AS2012 is the way to go. Today made a believer out of me! :(

As an ASE user I'm annoyed I missed the chance to get it at the special price, but as I'm happy with my existing textures I'm looking forward to the weather-only version which I believe may be available at some point.Ian
If you contact Damian at HiFiTechInc he may be able to help. As far as a weather only version - haven't heard anything definitive so it may be a long wait.Vic

It still won't match AS2012.

I gave up on ASE many months ago because of erroneous runway assignments...just couldn't live with it anymore. I switched to 'Open Clouds' and that has been consistently good and accurate IMO. I do have an open mind about the latest and greatest, so I'll keep an eye on AS2012, the REX upgrade and then decide what program to continue with. My frame rate is very good with OC, so it will take a lot of convincing to pull me away.

Hmm, you realise with correct settings, that does not happen. No need to give up.

Arrrrg it was 40% off for ASE users? Dammit, I missed that window of opportunity.

Now it's 20% off for all, but .. still ends up at approx 50 Euros, which is a steep approach when just looking for some ASE fixes, which is what I do. :( If one is up for the textures and maybe doesn't run REX already, the thing may look different though.

Oh, I couldn't possibly... I should have been more observant, and ASE works very well for me at the moment. It's just as well really, as I'm spent out after buying a new bicycle for youngbear... ^_^Talking of which, Merry Christmas, all.... :Party:Ian

Encouraged by others' reports of improved performance with Active Sky 2012, I decided to give the new version a try. I did see a performance improvement over previous versions... noticeably smoother. And the cloud formations are beautiful!Pictures posted in the Avsim Screen Shots Forum. (FYI... I haven't tried the new graphics yet... still using REX.)Ken

Nice screenshots there Ken, now that is the kind of feedback I like to see.I am a fairly new user of REX2 with OD, and loving it, and am somewhat torn on this as I wanted to try the AS weather engine but not necessarily interested at this time on the textures... still in a holding pattern here.

Not at this time - I would suspect if they got enough feedback from customers and potential customers, they might consider it...

My only problem is, whenever it is raining or snowing, it is only partly cloudy, how do I fix this?
Change this CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8 to CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12 under [weather] in fsx.cfg
