Well it depends from what they mean with those regions. Its possible that with those regions they mean just other pacific islands and little nice looking places picked from different locations, when I want to fly in whole world and big jets and not only in most interesting places.

As It stands right now we are seeing another megascenery or Orbx piece by piece type situation. No one can say for certain that entire continents will ever be done, hence the dissapointment.

See it as an oppertunity for you to speculate again. Point is that you can buy additional pieces of land and are not confined to Hawaii. What those additional pieces of land are is, as you rightfully bring up, unknown as yet.Garys: What I'm protesting is that people immediately think of the worst case scenario. Why not "flip" that opinion? Spin it around and you get: "we at least know it won't be Hawaii only". Because, to be honest, for the rest we know nothing on the exact coverage of Flight.

No wonder where the word "simulator" went, and why it is only called "FLIGHT". Maybe a better name would be "PAY"!At least I am not dissapointed. I thought that MS isn't able to do something seriously!

Must of us new it, but many just did not want to admit it.The (10gig disk requirement) speculation, is true after all.Back to XPX!!
Or return to FSX !By the way :Hawaï (all islands) = 16 000 km2 ... main island = 4000 km2 -> 10 GBWhole world (earth only) = 135 700 000 km2 -> 340 000 GB = 330 TB We 'll need a lot of big HDD, and the downloading time will be ... let me try with my 10 Mb/s ... it's around 275 000 seconds so about 75 hours ... If we think money ... estimate each scenery (5000 km2) at 1.99 $ ... whole earth -> 53 730 $ ?Finally, Prepar3D at $499 (or 10$ / month) it's a real bargain :( Happy 2012Pierre LFBE

Yeah, I can also fly around Hawaii in my current FSX install for free. If I want to do something interesting I will have to pay!

Yet some people here take exception when one uses M$ for MS!

Garys: What I'm protesting is that people immediately think of the worst case scenario. Why not "flip" that opinion? Spin it around and you get: "we at least know it won't be Hawaii only". Because, to be honest, for the rest we know nothing on the exact coverage of Flight. Simply because MS has completely changed the format on how it sells its FS development now. In the past the simulator was a finished, fire and forget type scenario allowing addon developers to work their magic to bring us where we are today. With flights future now directly being totally sales driven by region and aircraft purchases, we will continually be faced with unkown future development and content from a company that has a very well known reputation for pulling the plug on projects that arent up to par.At least in the past we knew we could fly from point A to Point B anywhere in the world and isnt that why we are all here anyway?

Yet some people here take exception when one uses M$ for MS!
Because until now as it applies to FS it was a misrepresentation.Think of it, after the initial cost of the sim, how much have you paid MS for additional addons? Even their multiplayer and weather services were free. Any additional cost went to other 3rd party developers, not MS.

Thanks

Guys, calm down a bit! I cannot believe how some people here seem to think MS is completely nuts. If all the negative expectations would be true, it will be a complete commercial flop. And that's not what I expect from M$ Big%20Grin.gifNeither will the additional regions be tiny islands or isolated spots on some continent, nor will you have to pay some 1000 $ to be able to fly over the wole world. Surely, they give you only some 4000 km² to explore for free, but noone wrote the additional regions could not be whole continents or at least regions in the size we know from ORBX. And the price tag for such a region would be considerably lower than the 30$ you pay now for larger FSX areas. Why? Firstly, in opposite to FSX addons, these regions will be sold by hundreds of thousands or even millions, as _no_ FLIGHT user will have more than Hawaii, and the builtin marketplace makes it easy even for the occasional user to upgrade. Secondly, MS has the potential of a large enterprise to quickly produce (hopefully high quality) scenery areas using the latest available terrain data, let alone the legacy FSX data.Then, it seems not to be reasonable to extrapolate the data amount for the whole world area from that 10 GB, as there will be a lot of generic data (textures, modules, aircraft, sound, missions...). Of the 72 GB in my FSX folder, 4.3 GB are those data. So think of Hawaii as a real hi-res area of some 1 GB. So, 330 TB of data is way too much. And I think, they would do the larger regions with even less details as ORBX does now, so the heavy iron fliers could get the whole planet for a reasonable price. Another unknown is whether there will be a freely available SDK and the possibility to import freeware data that did not went through their marketplace pipe. Let's see...I even believe that you will be able to fly around the earth without owning all scenery areas - you just will see water below your butt. Remember, they wrote in their PR "visually stunning and realistic representation of the earth, complete with region-specific weather patterns, foliage, terrain and landmarks" - that's actually good news, as it seems to improve the regionalization, compared to FSX.What really concerns me a bit is how much improvement went into flight physics. Another let's see. But everyone (with fast net access) will be able to tes fly it for free. So yes, I'm looking forward to FLIGHT. Batting%20Eyelashes.gif

Well, the way I see it: Flight is for local GA, not for deeply simulated heavies. I doubt it will have improved ATC, I doubt it will have real world weather.Apart from a modernized engine, what does it have that I don't have in FSX already or even better (and yes, I can run FSX with satisfyling FPS and amazing detail)? Reading the press release: Nothing.So: MSFlight won't be for me. Sorry.

Hi,At least I have Prepar3D, that's my new sim of choice.

Why not? It's free! I'm definitely giving it a try.
-----------------------------------------------Of course I'm going to download it and 'fly it' out of pent-up curiosity. But...even as I sit here and type this, NOT from anticipation and/or conceptualized usage.... Curiosity, to see what the death of a franchise looks like in 2012........and then an un-install. I know that, for I will not prostitute myself to their income-seep strategy. Download, see what, and then free up the hard disk space....
