She is representative of the Microsoft Flight target; a non-flying female. I wonder if my wife would be interested, seeing she has zero interest in flight simulation? On the other hand my wife has zero interest in computers, so I guess I won't be seeing Flight on my computer any time soon!

Before you close the forum make sure you send an email to MS letting them know how you feel.[email protected]
Tom Allensworth allready confirmed that MS are well aware of how Flight would be greeted by the old fans, so there's really no need. MSFS died with ACES and MS couldn't care less about 20+ years loyal followers.

Don't be so stupid, please.

*btw, when using the term 'game' it is an umbrella term, it also includes simulation and racing games, and everything in-between. Do not twist my words.

"A video game is an electronic form of play that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device" - the definition of the word "videogame", game is the common shorthand for videogame. Just being clear.

More negativity...The more people in the hobby the better it will be for all of us. Let's say 10,000 people download the free version, 1,000 hate it and delete it, never to think about flight sim again, a further 5,000 download use for a week then delete and 4,000 people download, think wow this is good but i want more, they google flight sim and end up here, they then discover Rise of Flight, DCS, FSX and the high level addons. It's good news people.
Or, 10,000 people could download the free version and realize they hate it. Do you really think 4000 out of 10,000 people are going to enjoy this? I don't even see this being a popular game on a console!

Mike, great post! However, I disagree.Consider what MS' goal appears to be and consider that if they achieve it, that sites like AVSIM will be irrelevant for all but the hardcore. It's not just about the demise or deminshment of third party suppliers as a result of FLIGHT. It is also about the numerous communities like AVSIM that will suffer from "new blood" going elsewhere. The history is that as far back as the ACES team, questions about the connectivity between social sites and flight simulation were being asked. In fact, I had a meeting in the UK with their "evangelist" where this subject was discussed at great length over an Indian meal in Hampton Wick.It should come as no surprise to anyone who has been in this hobby for any period of time, that MS wants to own the social content and the marketing value that comes with it. What implications does that have for the AVSIM's, Flightsim.com's, etc.? If we don't try to bring FLIGHT customers into our little corner of the hobby via sites like AVSIM, we will have lost in the longer term.Think about it.I would like to hear your thoughts.
I also agree with the OP.But I also feel concern for entities like Avsim. These sites, the hundreds of them, are also the welfare of their owners. The concentration of the major part in the decisions of the evolution "Flight" in microsoft's hands, by the pedicted business model, implies that this was part of Microsoft's calculus when it decided on the business model for "Flight".The people who could - could - be hit the hardest by this "retreating to advance" by microsoft, may well be thepeople who "produce" substancesthingssites" for Flight simulation enthusiasts. There is an parallel example being talked about right now in the real world. It has nothing to do with the extent to which "Flight" will be able to satisfy even hard core simmers: it has to do with the "supply train".When that "train" goes away, we will no longer have the type of community we have today.Look at UBI and the Silent Hunter series for an example of the many things which can cause grief when, a Developerconcentrates all of the building blocks in its hands. It will most likely turn out the way microsoft envisaged it, butthat only certifies that microsoft will come out on the otherside nice and shiny: the rest, well, they just may be strewn allover the path on the way to "there". In order to survive, sites like Avsim and other related entities may at this moment be modeling a way forward: the future.

I can feel your pain but usually I don't let any tragedy interfere with Xmas dinner.Sprouts are feared among all the world, we should prevent this from happening again.
When i was a child... i hated sprouts. Now i love them. So MS Flight is worse than sproutes.

I totally agree with the OP.Microsoft has obviously turned their backs on us, why should we (and AVSIM) support them?Besides, after today's 100+ blistering posts, MS might be willing to pay Tom to remove this forum (along with all the damaging posts).
I wrote the above post on Jan 4th, the day of the press release, and it shows how disappointed I was with the information that MS had just released on Flight . . . since, up until then, I had really been looking forward to the release of Flight. The thing is, I have an emotionally reactive personally (and my emotions generally win out over my rational thought processes).2 days later, I made another 180 degree turnaround, and am again a strong advocate for giving Flight a chance.Until we are able to give Flight a test flight (after it is released), none of us will know whether Flight is just an arcade game, or a decent flight simulator.

After this forum subsection gets shutdown, let's work on getting Flight Shutdown so it doesn't sully the Flight Sim franchise.

I also was skeptical about all the doomsayingBut don't fool yourself Bert. The minute it was confirmed that there's no place in Flight for 3rd party developers it was all over
Well look at this...someone who has a real brain.Thats what happened as soon as these greedy 3rd party Dev's. knew they were out of luck..

I'm surprised that no one has accused MS of being the anti-Christ once again.Personally I have a new computer and refuse to install FSX as it is such a bad piece of software IMO. Flight will be a refreshing replacement.Tom A's post hit the nail on the head - we either adapt or die.Cheersjja

Yes, I say do what all the other forums did and pull the plug on FLIGHT.
Yes pull the plug,so that after flight is released and people start responding to it. The ones who said pull the forum plug come back and ask to create another flight section....

Yip...The people who started this negative flight bashing was from 3rd party developers. But blame MS...

Yep! I'm so "greedy" that I didn't even earn enough these past seven years to owe any taxes. Seriously.I am so sick of reading this form of ignorance being spewed forth like it's some sort of Gospel message. :(

All one has to do is put 2+2 together. The third party folks say they don't make any money off there add ons. But if there were no money to make off them,do you really think MS would invest time and money into a game thats going to require purchasing add on material. When flight was first announced and screens and videos were shown, people were excited about it,until :"cough" found out they got left out.

While I am (still?) in the optimist camp regarding Flight, let's not blame everything on "the" developers. Individual devs likely have their individual, specific reasons for accepting or declining a deal, if offered.
