What is the addon developer stance?

Featured Replies

I'm curious to hear from the devs.. will your company be staying with FSX/9 longer? Moving/Adding P3D... X-Plane 9/X?Also, what can we as customers do to support the current industry? It's clear that without addon developers there would be no hobby...

I think they should all move over to P3D only problem with P3D is MS put a lot of constraints on how they can sell and market it. I am willing to pay 500 for a P3D license if they are going to fix the weather system and improve multicore performanceIf not P3D I guess if all the add-on devs move over to Xplane then that might be a good option

I think they made it pretty clear a few months back when the first signs of trouble began to appear... some of them even violated their NDA to post here about the brewing troubles... but many of the members simply scoffed at them, discounting it as nothing or making fun of those of us (myself included) trying to point out the obvious to everyone...

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Yes they did and we bashed them, even I'm guilty of it. Most unfortunate. Also unfortunate - last time I checked MS was in the business to make money, not customer relations... Some companies can do both and very successfully.

Some of them should band together to create a new sim !If Laminar can do it with a couple of guys, it can't be all that difficult, can it ?

I am with you there. It seemed very obvious that things were not looking right. I know many were shocked today with the news, but the rest of the people that don't have to have everything spelled out for them, knew this was very likely.

This is wishful thinking, but I would love to see a collaboration with REX, ORBX, and some high quality plane development houses to create the sim that we all would buy and support. Could you imagine. One the Laminar side, there is some pretty impressive work taking place by some community members to transform the platform to something very special. I am very excited to see the developments that are taking place there, as well as eagerly anticipating any news from our friends and Lockheed Martin have in store for us with an upcoming major release.

Maybe FS developers should finally band together and make something we need. No one company could do it right (Even Laminar by them self). So why not all the biggies get together and make a sim. PMDG has done a great job going beyond what was supposedly "possible," in FSX. ORBX make amazing airports/regions, FSDT makes great airports, Laminar has done a great job trying to create a sim that fills in the gaps that FSX has etc etc etc. I know it won't happen, but it's still great to think about. But it comes down to: How much would you pay for a sim, done right. That means a sim that combines the good things about FSX and XP, with the planes and scenery of the aforementioned companies. If you answer is anything less then 500 dollars, then this will never happen, and ALL of us would have to be willing to pay that much, which, will never happen. it's too bad, but we stil have FSX, which most people are finally able to run properly.

I'm a freeware developer type, and way at the start of this I stated that it was not hard to figure out that Flight would leave me behind. I also said that I had no problem with that as I had no desire to re-learn anything. I'm quite content with what I can do with FSX.

Why create a new sim when you can just start developing ADD-ONS for XPX !XPX looks and feels amazing ! Not perfect but the potential is there.

I have noticed several of the better known developer names now supporting Prepar3d with their add-ons. And why not, McDonnell Douglas is encouraging it! They have released SDKs free to developers. And it supports the latest versions of development software (like 3DSMax 2012). Plus they are actively working on the code (sounds like continuously). Where they admit making it fully multi-core capable could take years... they already have some parts on dual-core. I see this as a viable option for those seeking a hobby with 3rd party developers and users who wish to provide free content as opposed to a "game" for the masses. However I am sure when MS sold the code to MD they clamped down hard on regulating its use for the general public. :(Wasn't Aerosoft working on a simulator? Clutch

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

I'd agree except it's a roller coaster ride and reliance on essentially a one man outfit could be hazarous to the wellbeing of the 3rd party development. If two to six 3rd party developers band together the chances of a roller coaster effect may be minimised - unfortunately, so can the rate of progress. This is assuming a big 3rd party developer can not take on a project of this magnitude on their own.Google could take this on if they wanted to !

And you do it well thank you! I've downloaded all your freeware!

Yes. Yes, because if it works in FSX it would work in P3D. Maybe, if I can determine if it's "plausible" or not. <---Still waiting for buildings at an airport. ANY airport not coded KSEA.
