Some thoughts on Flight...

Thanks Robert,Suspected this, especially during the past 4-5 years. The platform to watch is Areofly as seen above. Plan to get soon. I beleive the best is yet to come, we have the community to support. Thanks MSFS for the fun time we have had for the past 20+ years. However, we need to move on if MS is not.JeanPaul

Well if old FS affiliations carry any bragging rights, I've still got my original set of twelve Sub Logic Charts ... but the real problem seems to me to be the sentimental drifting into "denial". It's a dead-end platform and soon you can expect a newer version of Windows that won't allow it to run. I think it's time to hedge our bets, look around at other simulators and hope that PMDG and the rest of the best come with us. In the meantime it might be a good idea to buy an extra copy of FSX ... you know they only give you limited re-loads!

One day I'll make a good landing even if it kills me!

Robert,Thank you for this post and for bringing up this issue. I am a proud supporter of many developers. I have spent lots of money on the addons and personally I would say that when flying my FSX platform with these addons I feel there is nothing I need more than to cherish and to nurture it for the future. It is my "real as can get" and hopefully I can get it run smoother and smoother with the technology, not needing anything else. I have purchased the X-Plane 10 as well, but I will deploy it on a permanent basis only if there is a converter to all the FSX addons as is. I appreciate all different developers and would never want to see you stop leading it so as far as I'm concerned MS Flight as they want it to be is really not for me. I will continue supporting FSX developers, and many months ago I made it clear in my "FSX Scenic Journey" (link available in my signature) "Gratitude" page.Thank you for you dedication and focus to provide such enjoyable products!Sincerely,Moshe

There are so many Very active developers out there working on FSX and it just gets better and better. Aerosoft/A2A/PMDG and a hundred others that are to many to mention.I believe FSX is still in its prime. It has tons of life left in it and faster computers come out all the time that allow more and more detail. Some developers are finding new tricks to fool FSX into doing what others say is impossible, like the FLIR camera that VRS have created for their Superbug is just 1 example (im talking about this one

A2A warbirds with properly simulated Superchargers are another. No not mention Orbx scenery making VFR fun again hehe.Roll on 777. :( :(

Thanks for all the insight regarding FLIGHT. It confirms a bunch of fears I had about the product since Microsoft let the ACES team go in 2009. You just cannot lose all that experience developing a framework for flight simulation and then expect to continue the franchise with a quality successor to FSX. I was taking a wait-and-see approach with FLIGHT, but it looks like it will not be worth my time at this time. I guess the door is always open if things should change in the future.I have to admit I have been intrigued by X-Plane for a few years - one reason being that I am a big Mac fan (though I also keep several Windows PC's around), and X-Plane has been very good about supporting the Mac as well as Windows. However, I have not given it serious consideration up to now, mainly because I have a very large stable of high-fidelity sim aircraft in FSX that I would lose if I went over to X-Plane. If more and more developers start releasing products for X-Plane, then I guess I will see the writing on the wall and migrate over to X-Plane, too.But for now, I am happy with FSX, and happy to hear that things will continue as they are in the near term at least. I suspect that there will eventually be a transitional period where I will be playing both FSX and the next anointed successor, until the successor has versions of all the airplanes I like in FSX. I trust developers like PMDG, and will follow suit when the time comes to change. I have plenty of stress in my life as it is, and my flight sim hobby is not something worth getting stressed out or highly emotional over.Cheers!

Posts like these make me wish that ALL companies could be as forthright as PMDG/RSR/Tabs. At most larger corps, you NEVER get this straight-forward of an answer.
You're obviously not one of the PMDG customers waiting for an answer to the frequently asked questions about SP2 for the J41 then! Don't kid yourself, PMDG are no different from any other company; they tell us what they want us to know, which is not the same as telling us what we want to know.Andy Lawton

Captains-So where do we go from here?Well- first- I'm not overly concerned. As hardware advances- FSX is really just coming into its own on the average consumer's hardware- so we intend to continue FSX development for the foreseeable future! There are a number of directions in which we can go- and PMDG has already been taking steps to sort out what platform our future products will feature. There has been some loose talk about PMDG and Xplane10- but I must tell you that while we are evaluating that product, and while we do have someone on staff helping to map out the process by which our products wind up in Xplane10- we are still some way out on that project line... From a developers standpoint Xplane10 certainly seems to be a good solid platform that will help our products to shine- but, like FSX it has some weaknesses and we need to evaluate whether it makes sense to allow XPlan10 at this time.I don't yet have an answer to this question. In the mean time, we continue at full steam to put the 777 together for you. I am not sweating the small stuff at this particular juncture- but I promise that whatever direction we go- you will be welcome to follow!Happy New Year- everyone!
Robert, I've never responded directly to anything you or any of your staff ( except Dr. Vaos?) have ever posted: I do so now.You develop it: I'll buy it. I'll stick with you guys as long as the journey can continue: because, I do love the "simulator" in Flight Simulator.

I don't care if PMDG move to P3D or not. With OrbX making their stuff available I will gladly pick up the low and slow(er) add ons that do work and enjoy myself. I do have the NGX and enjoy using it but I'mm not gonna be Sim Bound by one add on.

Quote the whole thing:"Posts like these make me wish that ALL companies could be as forthright as PMDG/RSR/Tabs. At most larger corps, you NEVER get this straight-forward of an answer. I know it is NOT full disclosure, but it's far closer than the doubletalk we usually get from companies (our own and others). Thank you for the response."No company gives full disclosure. PMDG (RSR) gave us a statement. I take it at face value and with a grain of salt that there is more to the story. As adults on this forum, the implication is that these addon developers want our money. That's no secret. Perhaps one day we will hear it all about PMDG and Flight, but I do not see a company the size and structure of PMDG, purposefully misleading you. To what end?I sympathize with the things you want from the company. Me? I'd like multicrew in my NGX, the 777 before August, and have them release the SDK so no more of those threads pop up. To put on my corporate hat, the lack of development speed suggests to me that maybe they need to add more staff (which may or may not be possible). Not that they are being sinister and ignoring your requests. In the end, I respect your opinion and hope a satisfactory conclusion is provided to you.Best regards.

Ummm, hi guys. I have not been contacted by anyone at PMDG and am very concerned that someone has been trying to get hold of us and there is nothing heard. I have been posting away on AVSIM and am available at Prepar3D.com. I haven't received any PMs or emails, so I will reach out with a PM here. I only stumbled across this forum topic after someone posted in the Prepar3D forums. I am here and available.

Hi John, and Robert/Tabs/PMDGI'm a massive fan of PMDG's work.I'm currently mid-install with prepar3d which I see as the sim of the near future.I think I speak for hundreds (at least) of Avsim simmers when I say - it would be brilliant if both of these fine companies can find a way to work together. It's a win/win as both products are potentially greatly strengthened by the other.

So there's hope yet !I think PMDG and P3D could be the perfect marriage.A platform that is in constant development and planes that are years ahead of anything else out there.I will be following this thread with great interest.Fred.
