August 18, 201213 yr o a CASUAL simmer, is this Baron 55 much different than the Carenado Baron 58 I recently bought? Not sure how you define "Casual", but the 55 and 58 really are different planes in many ways. The 55 has the older style Bonanza panel, the rather odd old school throttle quadrant with PPTTMM, flaps and gear are reversed in position from what you normally see as well, and it features a massive center mounted yoke arrangement. Yes, it's slower with smaller engines (though the package includes an E55 variant [kinda, sorta :-)] with slightly larger engines) and the fuselage is also smaller, basically the same as the F33 Bonanza, where the 58 is like the A36.. It can seat six, but the rear seats are more normally used as baggage space, leaving seating for 4 real adults. Or, put more casually ;-) - it has a completely different feel to it than a B58, and with this one, Milviz has done one of the most realistic panels I've ever seen. I don't think you'll regret the purchase, especially at this price! Scott
August 18, 201213 yr I got the Baron, and must say it is a beautiful aircraft with lots of detail and seems to have an excellent flight model. Unfortunately, my older computer struggles with frame rates on this one. It seems to be mostly caused by the GPS units. The Milviz 310R offered a "free radio" version, but I don't find that on the B55. Dale Dale
August 18, 201213 yr The Milviz 310R offered a "free radio" version, but I don't find that on the B55. Not having the 310 (yet!) I'm not exactly sure I know what you're referring to, but perhaps... Look for a switch with a rough label on it below the radio stack and give it a flip. Is that what you're looking for? Don't know about Milviz GPS, as I run two RXP units. Most seem to think the RXPs are easier on frames than default, but I've run RXP for so long now I've no basis for comparison. In any case, no problems with frames on my somewhat more capable, but not blazing, system. Scott
August 18, 201213 yr Got the B55 yesterday and love it. Great flight dynamics and great looking graphics. One oddity that I did notice was that I selected the B-55 from the aircraft selection screen and had to take care of something and left the Free Flight screen up. When I returned, I had an "Out of Memory" message from Windows (7 pro). It's the only time that I've seen it happen with my new system. Alexander Alonso
August 18, 201213 yr Look for a switch with a rough label on it below the radio stack and give it a flip. Is that what you're looking for? Good suggestion, I tried that and it didn't seem to make much difference in fps. I can get about 17 fps most of the time, so it is usable, but I get around 25 with the 310R and the "Free Radio" version. I'm tempted to get the RXP gauges, as I've heard good things about them and they seem to be reasonable on frame rates. Dale Dale
August 18, 201213 yr How about the choppers published by Nemeth Design? I don't see them as part of the discount anywhere. August 19, 201213 yr y'all should be jumping on the T-38A ... that is one fun plane to fly and it uses steam gauges and it has EZCA profiles
August 19, 201213 yr Their EC35 (EC-135) is on sale now through PC Aviator: http://www.pcaviator.com/store/product.php?productid=18226&cat=0&page=1 Well, thanks for that, Ryan. But I was thinking of the Agusta109 and the Chinook developed by MilViz, but published by Nemeth. And I couldn't find those two anywhere. Florian
August 19, 201213 yr I picked up the B55 last night and had a very enjoyable first flight in it. What a looker! This is the best VC work I've seen from Milviz yet; although granted, I only have a handful of their planes. This Baron will be giving me fun for a while, I predict. And yes, Tom, I supported the home team. At 15 bucks, it's hard to pass up! ^_^
August 19, 201213 yr Re:the b58 vs. the b55- when I was plane looking my wife looked at a b58 and said " I don't like won't ever sit backwards." She liked the b55..nuff said... 6 seats facing forward vs. 2 facing backwards..,, Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
August 19, 201213 yr Resistance was futile... B55 and the T38 (from the host). I'm sure it will whet the appetite for the 727... Mike Mike Dryden
August 19, 201213 yr Picked up the Baron myself after I swore I had plenty. Glad I did because it's a steal at $15. - Aaron
