Flights now defunct future

I'm running Flight on Windows 8 CP. Works fine. I can't help but wonder if perhaps they have something in the works. Maybe Flight as it is now is dead, perhaps MS realized it wasn't going in a suitable direction and they are going to work on something else. I have a difficult time believing that the MS FS franchise is dead completely. But who knows, definitely seems odd to release patches for a defunct product, that really doesn't have any serious issues.

It does have some issues. The Maule prop bug, the Alaska glitches and trees and the corrupted installs.

Again, only the content development was stopped on Microsoft Flight, not bug fixes and support. Flight isn't as dead as it seems.

And all the "database" bugs for the C-46 (some tasks are unable to start like in Puu Waa Waa ranch, easy to see just pick a task with the whale there...).

Indeed. It is very encouraging to see the communication going on now, from Loki and Solicest on the Steam forum. Way more communication than we had prior to the announcement that they were ceasing development on Flight. And now they have put a private beta build up, to work on bug fixes.

It would seem to me, the fire has not gone out, there are still a couple of embers glowing and who knows, maybe at some point they will re-ignite more...

While perhaps just a glimmer, it does give me some hope for Flight. It will surely be interesting to see what happens here going forward.

I think they are flogging a dead horse

I'm not that hopeful right now. They're just doing what Microsoft said; maintaining the product.

However, Microsoft have stated that if Microsoft Flight ever fits again in their product portfolio, they'll consider ressurecting it. So if they do that, I'll not be surprised.

What I notice is that after the initial burst of excitement from the announcement, they have gone kinda silent........

I think the world has changed since 2006 when FSX came out. With Facebook and Twitter, it's a lot easier for people to discuss their products, and to vent their frustrations. MS are doing a little to keep that from overflowing.

Wait...isn't/wasn't Joshua Howard a guest speaker at DEVCON in Seattle?

Still trying to figure that one out...A guest speaker for a failed product

I thought that but then I think the post was put up on Friday and yesterday (Monday) was (is) a public holiday in the US? Deliberate timing?

I dont know if its just me but the way im looking at this new way of communication from loki and solicest looks to me that someone is trying to understand and learn how to interact with us the simmers to get a better grip at what we really wanted to see in flight and maybe later on we can see something new from MS . OUR COMUNITY ITS NOT SMALL AT ALL .

There was a old Horse leading the way he was trying to talk to the other horses to learn more about us but that was change after the wrong horse was put as a lead . he took all the other horses to a side and told then not to talk to anyone else anymore that was the begining of the story . I hope someone understand me and if you do PLEASE DONT ASK HOW I KNOW .......

Our community is comparatively very very small compared to other gaming genres. All the recorded copies of flight simulator ever sold don't compare to the sales of many single modern AAA game releases.

I sometimes think just the cutscenes in some of these games cost more than all of Flights development.

We are Halo's leftover pocket change.

Yeah, though we should remember that there are even smaller communities that still manage to make enough money to developers. Train simulation for example, I am very sure that its community is way smaller than FS one and yet there has been multiple new high quality train simulators released during last few years.
