November 27, 201213 yr No sense rewriting what pretty much everyone said. +1 for me. My favorite aircraft bar none. Character is a great word to describe her. Can almost fly like a fighter jet if your not careful on the reigns. I still think the graphics are not that bad. Sure not as great as the NGX but its just got a great big "Cool" factor. The price might be questionable to some, but once you purchase and fly you wont regret it. Forgot to mention, if anyone wants to really master the MD-11 I highly recommend the Angle of Attack course. Its very thorough and will teach you everything about it, including loading and flightplanning, as well as flights. I did it and it helped tremendously. Someone posted this video but I cant remember from where. Its really well done and just shows the personality off of the MD-11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=roXxrOEEElM Edited November 27, 201213 yr by hightowers CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
November 27, 201213 yr Hi all, Interesting thread, I have had the MD11 for ages and bought the 737NGX after it had been out about 6mths, after reading all the comments about how wonderful it was. It is stunning, but it's operated much like any Boeing aircraft, and soon becomes, well like driving a bus, goes from A to B. The MD11 on the other hand doesn't have such great textures in the VC but still very much better than alot out there. But what amazing systems and it's so different to any other airliner. Anyone who hasn't got one is really missing out, and the bonus is because it's textures aren't so new it works great on lower end systems like mine!"!!!! Happy flying, Happy Flying, Dave Phillips.
November 27, 201213 yr Blah! You all made me buy it tonight. I was going to wait for the 777. Didn't happen. AJ Pongress
November 27, 201213 yr Yup, there is a video on you tube of someone landing a FedEx PmDg md11 I think at KLAX... The effects of ezdock plus the simulation of this beast made me buy it, and still enjoy the challenge of a full manual landing. Get the angles and figures wrong, and boy are you in for a fight! November 27, 201213 yr The MD-11 is the only PMDG aircraft I have, so I can't compare it to any of their other releases, but I think the VC is fabulous. Its a fascinating aircraft to learn and explore. Glad I bought it. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
November 27, 201213 yr I always perform manual landing, a/t and a/p off and just go down to runway, it's very challenging and amazing! Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
November 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member If it is has definitely light hit on FPS, I'll buy it maybe even tonight! Can someone compare FPS on MD11 with NGX? November 27, 201213 yr After reading this thread I am seriously considering buying it. I have always been on the fence mainly due to the price since I wasn't sure I would like it very much and of course after having the NGX since it came out and then comparing the graphics of the VC of the NGX to the MD-11 it looked a little dated. As much as I loved the LDS 767 I have pretty much shelved it since the NGX came out due mainly to the older looking VC and I didn't want to get the -11 and end up doing the same. Although since it can be had in the $50 range I might go ahead and pick it up and give it a shot. Too bad there are no freeware or payware updated .bmps for the VC to bring it a little more up to date with the NGX graphically. Hi, Rest assured that the MD-11's VC, while not being quite as visually amazing as the NGX, is still far far superior to the LDS767's VC (that's not criticizing the latter product, just reflecting that it was released in 2005!). The MD-11 is really not a bad VC (amazing gauges, overhead, etc, it is just some of the virtual cockpit model textures that are a bit lower resolution (eg... like the side walls of the cockpit). It really is still an amazing add-on. If it is has definitely light hit on FPS, I'll buy it maybe even tonight! Can someone compare FPS on MD11 with NGX? Sent from my U8815 using Tapatalk 2 For me, the MD-11 is about 20% lighter on frame rates than the NGX. So let's say at FlyTampa St Maarten on high settings , I will get 26 FPS in the NGX, I would get about 32 FPS in the MD-11.

November 27, 201213 yr Same as everyone else - can't recommend it enough ! I just wonder with all the positive feedback why it was such a dog sales wise for PMDG. (didn't RSR say it's development nearly sent them under ?) Hopefully the buzz around the NGX has brought some new simmers into the PMDG fold and they've started to make some belated sales of what for me is a 'must have' product. Neil Burgess

Hopefully the buzz around the NGX has brought some new simmers into the PMDG fold and they've started to make some belated sales of what for me is a 'must have' product. I suspect initial slow pace of sales was related perhaps to the real world aircraft not appealing to as wide a range of simmers as perhaps the more mainstream Boeings and Airbuses. But as you say, it was some time ago that RR said that comment, and hopefully now the MD-11 has paid for itself! .... (if it hasn't, it perhaps mimmicks real life, where the MD-11 was a financial burdon for MD, and later Boeing!).
November 27, 201213 yr Never regret buying it,but regret flying it!!!!! Can't stop flying her For me she's the queen of the skies John John Cramer
November 27, 201213 yr I hope all these encouraging positive comments gave it a sales spike. Will just make it that much better and inspire PMDG that much more for future developments. That is a lot of positive advocates for the aircraft. I hope it continues in the months to come. Best $$ I've spent for fsx aircraft. November 27, 201213 yr WOW so many fans for the MD11. I am in the minority here. I find the MD11 not fun to hand fly. The pitch goes wild when applying pressure on the yoke when approaching to land. I understand that the real aircraft is not that sable ...but this feels like its outright dangerous. Ha HA. The VC doesn't look good (I don't mean PMDG work..but the aircraft itself). II prefer the 737NGX and the 747 over the MD11 Manny This is just an essential plane to have. About handflying the plane, the relationship between LSAS attitude hold and manual throttle control is a hard one to master because it changes the relationship between pitch and power and trim in a way that you aren't used to. If you add power, you expect the nose to rise or fall and that doesn't happen because LSAS is holding it where it is. Best bet is to stick with the autothrottle until you really get the hang of it, in which case it flies like it is in Video Game mode. This is just a great plane, and you can't go wrong with it. My opinion is that the VC looks pretty darned good compared to a lot of payware out there, only that the real cockpit itself is rather drab and clinical--I certainly don't feel like a second class citizen when sitting in that cockpit as opposed to any other. I think this plane is worth every penny.
